Alexandra is a primary school, located in Harrow, for children with moderate learning difficulties (MLD). We provide a friendly and caring environment in which children feel valued and secure. The curriculum is rich, broad, and challenging to bring out every child's unique talents and develop a love for learning.

Alexandra is part of the Eden Academy, a family of special schools who work together under one Multi-Academy Trust, with access to a wide range of expertise and services. We are pleased you are taking the time to visit our website. We hope it will provide you with all the information you need.

Alexandra School is a fully inclusive primary school that specializes in supporting children 4-11 with moderate learning difficulties, sometimes associated with behavioral, emotional, social, communication, physical or sensory needs.

For the most part, Alexandra School serves the Harrow community and as such, reflects the ethnic diversity of the local population. Alexandra School is a member of the Eden Academy, a family of schools that specialize in meeting the educational needs of children and young people with a range of learning difficulties.

Visitors often ask why we have geese for our school logo. We chose geese because of the way that they work together: when they are flying, when they are tired or injured, when they honk to encourage each other!

At Alexandra School we have a strong sense of community: we know that we can learn and achieve much more together than we can apart. The geese have meaning for us and the children here, as do our five Alexandra School values which underpin everything that we do:

We strive to provide excellent teaching and learning support with all the necessary facilities and resources to ensure that children have the best possible chance of success in their school careers. Pupils at Alexandra have opportunities to gain skills and knowledge across the curriculum, to develop self-confidence and respect for others, to become independent at school and in the wider world.

We believe that positive achievement and positive behavior go hand in hand. We have clear rules, expectations, and boundaries which we expect all children and adults to accept we call them the Golden Rules. These rules are based on our school values and support the rights of children to be able to learn in an environment where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. We display the Golden Rules in every classroom so that the whole school lives under the same umbrella of commonly held values.

All of our pupils at Alexandra School present with moderate learning difficulties. Each pupil is valued for his or her individuality. They are supported to socialize with each other and make friends. Our pupils enjoy coming to school and demonstrate daily their love for learning. They are wholly included in the life of their class and the school. The children take pride in belonging to the school and once they feel that sense of belonging, they contribute themselves.

The school aims to ensure effective and regular communication with parents and carers, to work collaboratively, and secure the best possible outcomes for all pupils. This communication takes the form of phone calls, emails, Fronter (password-protected school website), and opportunities to meet.

Parents are regularly invited into school to share in their child's learning. As part of this, they will develop an understanding of the curriculum and celebrate achievement.

We work closely with families to provide opportunities for workshops, discussion forums, and adult learning. We have strong and effective relationships with other agencies, which enable us to support families and signpost additional sources of help with required.

Gate Gossip is our parent group, which meets at least once every half term. The group aims to encourage parents to come along and meet each other, discuss different topics and learn about all the different activities that go on at school. The group has a friendly and informal approach, with plenty of tea and biscuits on hand! We often invite guest speakers along to give us useful information about parent entitlements or parenting issues, e.g. sleep, healthy eating, behavior. We run workshops for parents, for example on healthy cookery or developing IT skills.

Family Learning Sessions run once a week for blocks of five weeks each half term. Parents are invited to sign up for these sessions with their children. Each block of sessions has a theme, e.g. photography, storytelling, cookery. The sessions run at the end of the school day and are a great opportunity for parents and children to learn together. Families value the warm and friendly atmosphere of these free sessions.

Parent Activity Sessions are organized by the class teachers once per term. Parents are invited into class to take part in an activity with their child. This might be anything from a reading session to a science and engineering challenge! These sessions allow parents to see their child learning in class and to meet other parents of children of the same age.

As a way of extending the services offered by Alexandra School, we also organize a range of after-school clubs for the children including:
