UC has also launched its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategic Plan 2017 – 2021, outlining a university-wide approach to closing the gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians main areas: academic, research and innovation, employment, and community engagement. Nestled in the nation's capital, we are a young university with a bold vision. The University's teaching is enriched by our research culture that focuses on outcomes that lead to early improvements in the world around us. The two together reflect our dynamic, innovative, and collaborative intellectual environment. The University's strong emphasis on work-integrated learning gives our nearly 17,000 students valuable experience to develop critical workplace skills. Our graduates are in high demand, and many of our more than 77,000 alumni occupy senior positions in public and private enterprises in Australia and around the world.

Our vibrant, friendly campus is home to many cafés, eateries, and fitness facilities. The natural park-like environment teems with native birds and a small mob of kangaroos. We also play host to the famous touring music festival – Groovin' the Moo. We have embarked on a comprehensive development plan to see our campus transform into an integrated learning community where academics, students, and the public come together in a seamless knowledge-sharing space. Comprising four interconnected precincts – health, sports, innovation, and residential – the project is already coming to life with the opening of a multi-service Health Hub and the University's Sporting Commons, including the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise.

The construction of the new University of Canberra Public Hospital – a central facility for our health sciences, teaching, and research – is underway. Our ties with the ACT Brumbies Super Rugby team, the UC Vikings, and Special Olympics ACT are further strengthened. A state-of-the-art, 496-bed new student residence will open its doors in 2017. Further developments in the health, residential, and innovation district are being planned. These rapidly expanding facilities deliver an integrated teaching and research environment, providing exciting new avenues for the University to serve its community.
