Cottey College, an independent liberal arts and sciences college, educates women to contribute to a global society through a challenging curriculum and a dynamic campus experience. We believe there is a leader in everyone. The key is understanding the kind of leader you are. Is your leadership style charismatic, participative, situational, transactional, transformational, or a quiet leader or servant leader? That is what you learn about yourself at Cottey.
The Learning Center also doubles as a learning space where students can work independently or collaboratively with peers. We have open work areas as well as study rooms for working one-on-one with peer tutors or individually. Space is specifically designed to be a welcoming learning environment. We welcome students to work in our Center, and we strive to maintain a professional, educationally-centered environment.
We believe every student deserves a global education, and the best way to do that is to travel to another country. At Cottey, sophomore level students (28-56 credits) and transfer students (after completion of 24 credits at Cottey) will have the opportunity to spend the first week of spring break visiting a European city with classmates and faculty, learning about art, history, science, and culture. There is no extra tuition fee for the trip, and Cottey pays for your airfare and hotel. You are only responsible for meals and incidentals.
Some of our baccalaureate degree programs contain a study abroad requirement which allows our students to spend a semester or more overseas. They take courses for credit and develop a truly international perspective. Our students have traveled to Hong Kong, Mexico, Turkey, Jamaica, China, Japan, South Africa, and spent an entire semester sailing as part of the study-abroad program.
In addition to federal and state aid, the College is proud to offer institutional aid on a limited basis as funding allows. Cottey offers various scholarships based on academic merit, extracurricular activities, leadership, and athletic performance. Funds are made possible by the generosity of Cottey College Alumnae, members of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and friends of the College. Acceptance of Cottey scholarships or grants as part of a financial aid package indicates permission to release the recipient's name and address the donors who fund the awards. The recipients are to write a thank you note. The Institutional Advancement Office will aid in this process as donors need to know their generosity is not only being utilized but also appreciated.
Financing your education is a significant investment. At Cottey College, we understand that fact. Much of the financial aid process and awarding of financial aid are regulated by federal law, which first supposes that post-secondary education's financial responsibility lies with the student and family; however, due to our strong financial foundation, endowment, and the continued financial support of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization dedicated solely to furthering education for women, offers several scholarships and grants to help make a Cottey education affordable.
