Catawba College was founded in Newton, North Carolina, in 1851 by the German Reformed Church. The College — which is today affiliated with the United Church of Christ — moved to its present location in Salisbury in 1925. The College endeavors to attract students both nationally and internationally of good ability and character. A private, coeducational institution, Catawba offers the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Education degrees to traditional and non-traditional students. The College also serves the public through educational outreach and volunteer service programs for the world community.

Our Athletics Mission Statement is to support the overall mission of the College through the conduct and operation of an athletic program that meets or exceeds the expectations, policies, and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the South Atlantic Conference (SAC), and the governing bodies of Catawba College. Within that support system, the athletic department strives to provide a wholesome environment for every athletic program participant and an environment that enriches the physical lives and learning processes of each individual and attends to the needs of their academic and social lives as well.

However, we do have deadlines that we encourage our prospective students to keep under consideration as not to miss scholarship opportunities.
The graduate program is designed to provide the practicing licensed teacher with advanced work in content and further professional knowledge and skill development.In addition to the College is regionally accredited, the Department of Teacher Education at Catawba College is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
Catawba's new Center for Entrepreneurship and Experiential Development (CEED) is designed to integrate academic excellence, creativity, innovation, and hands-on experience. This program gives students a detailed understanding of and necessary skills to run a small business, launch their venture, take a leadership role in a venture, or take on an intrapreneurial role in a mature organization.
The new DISCOVER program will educate middle and senior high school youth about theology and ministry and help prepare the next generation of leadership for the Church. This program will challenge youth during this formative time in their lives to engage in careful theological and moral reflection and activity.
Catawba was one of only 20 Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) member institutions to receive a $100,000 grant through the CIC/Walmart College Success Awards to fund programs designed to increase retention and support the education first-generation college students. Catawba recently joined the nonprofit Center for Student Opportunity's (CSO) growing community of nearly 200 College Partners as a commitment to supporting first-generation college students on campus.
Catawba College is ranked 17th in the nation for "Best College Theater," according to the Princeton Review's 2018 edition of "The Best 382 Colleges." Catawba is also cited as one of the country's best institutions for undergraduate education. For five years running, Catawba is one of only four North Carolina institutions, making the Top 100 list in Forbes'Grateful Graduates Index 2017. The other NC institutions were Duke University, Wake Forest University, and Davidson College. The Index ranks the best long-term value, or return-on-investment (ROI) of the top private, not-for-profit colleges enrolling more than 1,000 students.
The vitality of Catawba College lies in its tradition of vital academic programs sensitive, concerned but demanding faculty diverse students who share a seriousness of purpose, successful, loyal graduates, and informed, committed trustees.
Catawba's tradition extends back to its establishment in 1851 in Newton, a center of commerce in the foothills of western North Carolina. This region had been settled by hardy German pioneers who had traveled in the 1740s from eastern Pennsylvania to settle in the Haw, Yadkin, and Catawba rivers' valleys. Bringing with them a strong cultural and religious heritage, these pious settlers established the North Carolina Classis of the Reformed Church in 1831 and shortly after that, in 1834, established an Education Society to send young men to individual northern schools of the Reformed Church so that they might be educated and return to serve in the ministry.
Catawba seeks to employ faculty members who are excellent teachers and can guide and challenge students through their interaction with them in clubs, academic organizations, and athletic and social activities. Faculty are genuinely committed to the mission of the College, which expresses concern for the total development of the student. The ideal faculty-student ratio means that a faculty member is always available to aid and counsel a student and offer support in the sometimes tricky developmental process. Former students often attribute their success to the fact that faculty members cared about them as persons, not just for their academic performance. Catawba College is governed by a Board of Trustees of 39 men and women representing a broad spectrum of leadership from various constituency groups within the College community — businesses and professions, the alumni association, and the United Church of Christ.
