Pai Chai University

Pai Chai University is one of South Korea's oldest modern universities. Its campus is located in Seo-gu, in Daejeon metropolitan city, on the lower slopes of Yeonja Mountain. The school was founded by the missionary Henry Appenzeller in 1885, not long after the Joseon government had legalized Christianity and reformed the national educational system. It was known as Baejae Hakdang, which might be rendered as "Pai Chai Academy." It was officially established as a college in 1895.
In the museum, you can see the history of Korean modern education and culture at the end of the Chosun Dynasty in one place.
Pai Chai University has developed a 'Happy and Independently Balanced University with Sharing and Services' to make itself a specialized university for undergraduate programs. Young Appenzellers are positive, future-oriented intellectuals and well-rounded, sensible people, and creative pioneers who are seeking new challenges while facing difficult challenges moving forward.
School, striving to cultivate talent required in the 21st century, was not only chosen for the government-funded projects of the Advancement of College Education (ACE Plus) and the Leading University Industry-Academic Cooperation(LINC Plus) but was also selected for support projects of domestic·overseas employment and business start-ups for Pai Chai graduates. Under God's protection, Pai Chai is growing and has secured a prestigious status in Korea. Now it is time to become an internationally competitive private university. A united power and creative effort from all Pai Chai members are required to improve competitiveness to achieve this goal.
We also focus on global education. Pai Chai offers one of the most extensive overseas programs for students in Korea. This includes overseas student exchange programs, foreign language and culture training programs, and global backpacking with friends. On Pai Chai campus as of April 2017, we have 552 international students from 76 nations involved in Korean language education and undergraduate and graduate school courses. Pai Chai students are naturally exposed to a global environment and a diverse culture.
Pai Chai HakDang has been devoting itself to cultivate talented people to develop its community and nation for 133 years. Pai Chai HakDang will continue to manage the foundation soundly and actively in the years to come and will make Pai Chai University, middle school, and high school the most prestigious private institutes in Korea.
