Since 1956, Supméca has been providing engineering training that combines solid scientific knowledge with genuine industrial experience. This training leads to a National Degree in Engineering recognized by the French engineering accreditation institution: the Commission du Titre d'Ingénieur (CTI). Holders of this degree are accredited to have both a Master's degree and the professional title of Graduate Engineer.
Supméca is located in Saint-Ouen, very close to Paris. At the time of its creation, this area was a leading industrial center in the vicinity of several factories, including Alstom, EDF, Peugeot, Valeo, and more.
Today, Supméca's environment is currently undergoing full restructuring. It will have a strategic position in the Grand Paris expansion scheme, which includes the upcoming opening of metro line no.14, creation of metro line no.15, moving in of the Paris region's Regional Council offices, and the 2024 Olympic Games' Village project.
Creation of the Institut Supérieur de Matériaux et de la Construction Mécanique (ISMCM) or Higher Institute of Material Studies and Mechanical Construction, as a joint initiative of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of National Education and the Federation of Mechanical Industries. The ISMCM was intended for engineers who had graduated from National Grandes Ecoles – highly selective higher education institutes, who already had some industrial experience to upgrade their knowledge in material studies and their utilization in mechanical construction.
With its riverfront location by the Seine and two buildings – the most recent one was built in 2009, the School benefits from comfortable workspaces. Supméca is very easily accessible thanks to several bus and metro lines, and is located this close to Paris is a significant asset.
Supméca is located in Saint-Ouen, very close to Paris. This ideal location enables students to regularly meet up with each other in Paris' critical cultural sites, by day or night. There are also several cultural sites and sports venues in Saint-Ouen, including the famous flea market district of the 'quartier des puces'!.
We offer logistical assistance for all the necessary procedures and formalities, as well as housing searches. Free French courses are open to non-French speaking students of all levels.
Since the creation of the CESTI in 1956 – which was founded based on the ISMCM, a practical-training school dedicated to mechanical and materials engineering attached to the Polytechnic Institute, Supméca, which started using this name in 2003, has been consistently updating its training programs in order to train the types of engineers the industrial world needs. The business world has always been at the very heart of the training offered at Supméca.
Since 2008, Supméca has been offering the possibility of pursuing the Supméca degree in Industrial Engineering through apprenticeship, in collaboration with the ITii institute of engineering technologies of the Île-de-France region, and the CFAI Mécavenir industry-executives training-institute.
It is possible to pursue a Master's degree concurrently with the 3rd year pathway at Supméca. Master's degrees can facilitate admission to a doctoral program.
Duration: 1 year (including 3-6 month internship in academic or industrial research).
Regarding doctoral programs, Supméca is affiliated with the doctoral School of Paris-Saclay together with Centrale-Supélec.
Thanks to several industrial collaborations, there are in the Supméca laboratory many doctoral candidates who benefit from a CIFRE (industrial agreement for training through research) thesis funding contract. These agreements enable Supméca to build partnerships with industrial companies such as Airbus Group, Dassault, EDF, Renault, or Valeo, as well as small and medium-sized businesses, Eurofarad, VannierKinoptik, etc.
Extracurricular activities, which are highly recommended by Supméca, will help students develop their sense of responsibility, team spirit, and values such as sharing and solidarity, which will be essential assets in their professional life.
Students have access to various sports complexes that are close to the School. As such, there are many different sports clubs at Supméca. The Bureau Des Sports sports office manages a sports hall and equipment availability. Available activities include martial arts, rowing, badminton, basketball, dancing, climbing, football, rugby, handball, swimming, tennis, table tennis, sailing, volleyball, etc.
There are several sporting events and championships for these activities throughout the year, e.g., university tournaments, Supélec's TOSS multi-sport tournament, 'Grandes Ecoles' student challenge, EDHEC business-school cruise-race with the Supméca Voile sailing team, etc. Feel free to join in, regardless of how sporty you are!
Supméca offers the 1st MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) in French on additive manufacturing – most commonly called 3D printing.
This MOOC is led by 3D4pro in partnership with ALSTOM, the CEA (French Atomic and Alternative Energy Commission), and Supméca. It is a free, open-to-all online training course that explicitly targets the Francophone industry's current and future employees. An existing collaboration with one of the teachers-researchers of the laboratory is highly recommended.
