The Kore University of Enn (Università Kore di Enna, or UKE) was established by the Italian Government as Free University in 2005. UKE is the fourth and last university founded in Sicily after those of Catania (1434), Messina (1548), and Palermo (1805). Unlike many other Italian universities, UKE was not established by a pope or a king.

The Kore University of Enna is a free, non-state university. It is not governed by the State or by other public bodies, from which it receives only small contributions. The UKE is based on private and self-financing, the scientific activities' proceeds, and student fees. For this reason, spending is prudent and is always of high quality.

The Kore University is based in Enna, a small but ancient city, capital of its province, situated above a mountain of more than 900 m asl. It is the highest town in Italy and one of the highest in Europe. Enna is the geographical center of Sicily. And since Sicily is in the heart of the Mediterranean, UKE crosses equally north and south, east and west of the world.

The Campus is located in Enna's residential area, downstream of the old city, where there are extensive service facilities, including the hospital and the extra-urban bus terminal. Every day, more than 150 buses arrive from all the main cities of Sicily and other Italian and European regions. The rail station is based on the Catania-Palermo railway.
