University of Lincoln Chancellor, a cross-bench member of the House of Lords Lord, and Great Lives speaker (previously named Great Minds) Victor Adebowale CBE talks about the student experience here at the University. The University of Lincoln is home to world-leading researchers who are making profound contributions to their subject areas. Our researchers are tackling some of the world's most challenging problems, including drug-resistant bacteria, cancer diagnosis, and mitigating the impact of climate change.
Research projects taking place at the University of Lincoln projects make a real impact and bring direct, positive benefits to society across a wide range of sectors, from developing new medical technologies to preserving rare architectural treasures. The quality and breadth of research at the University were highlighted in the most recent national Research Excellence Framework in 2014. More than half of the University's submitted research was rated as internationally excellent or world-leading.
From the Gold-standard quality of our teaching to our award-winning approach to working with industry, the University of Lincoln has established a reputation as one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing universities in the UK. We have around 14,000 students and 1,600 members in our academic community, which features more than 100 different nationalities across our three campuses in Lincoln, Riseholme, and Holbeach.
Our academic departments, or Schools, are organized into four colleges: the College of Arts, the College of Science, the College of Social Science, and the Lincoln International Business School. Within these, we offer a wide variety of programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level and short courses, degree apprenticeships, and Ph.D. and postdoctoral opportunities. Quality research underpins all our academic endeavors, and our academic staff includes more than 60 substantive professors who support a thriving research culture and a high-quality student experience.
The University of Lincoln's current Strategic Plan covers the period 2016-2021 and sets out the institution's vision and mission, shaping the future direction of the University's development. One of the essential elements of the Strategic Plan is the University's Mission. This statement defines the University as A university looking to the future to serve and develop our local, national, and international communities by creating purposeful knowledge and research, confident and creative graduates, and a dynamic and engaged staff team.
The Strategic Plan also articulates a vision for the future that the University of Lincoln will: By 2021, be a global 'thought leader' for 21st Century higher education. We will be known for addressing the changing world's opportunities and challenges by developing a new approach to education and knowledge development. We will build on our reputation for excellent student engagement, which prepares our graduates for their future. We will work closely with our communities to ensure a beneficial impact on our research to make a meaningful contribution to our world.
