Our buildings range from a historic 19th-century church through to modern buildings such as Oastler. The University has a long history from its founding as the Young Men's Mental Improvement Society in 1841 through to the present day.

The University places a great deal of importance on industry experience. Huddersfield is a Top 10 University in England for work placement (HESA 14/15). 100% of our undergraduate students have the opportunity to undertake professional work-related experience during their studies. This includes placements, industry-standard projects, and real-world case studies.* Many of our courses give successful graduates professional body accreditation including, Law, Architecture, Psychology, Pharmacy, Accountancy, Chemistry, Engineering, and Computing. We have invested in dedicated staff who work with international students, including everything from getting a part-time job while studying to developing a global career.
Since 2010, £80 million has been spent on on-campus development, making sure our students can access some of the country's best facilities. Our campus also has a vibrant social scene, and we have a very active Students' Union with more than 110 clubs and societies.

The University is growing its reputation as a leader in the field of enterprise. In 2012 the University was awarded the prestigious Times Higher Education Entrepreneurial University of the Year and followed this up in 2013 when awarded a Queen's Awards for Enterprise: International Trade. Professor Liz Towns-Andrews, Director of Research and Enterprise, also received an individual Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion.
We have helped several graduates set up their successful businesses and have a fantastic Enterprise Team here to help students get their business ideas off the ground. The Duke of York Entrepreneur Centre, housed in the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre, is an excellent hub for students who wish to set up their own business and provides an excellent opportunity to network with other students and local businesses.
