Ural Federal University (UrFU) is one of Russia's largest higher educational institutions, bringing together fundamental education and an innovative approach towards the challenges of modern times. We aspire to become a world-class university in the heart of Eurasia committed to the complex and sustainable development of research and teaching.
Currently, the University is home to almost 35 000 students from 80 countries globally and more than 4 000 faculty members, including the top-notch global experts in natural sciences, engineering, and social sciences. Our 17 Institutes offer about 400 Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral Programs in natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, humanities, economics, and management taught in Russian and English. The number of UrFU alumni exceeds 360 000 people. Breakthrough studies are pursued in 72 research excellence centers. The University is open to international collaboration having almost 400 partners worldwide and being an active participant of such initiatives as BRICS Network University, SCO Network University, CIS University.
Ural Federal University was established within the frames of implementing the Russian Federation's long-term development concept as one of the global leaders in education, innovation, and research. The Mission of Ural Federal University is increasing competitiveness, re-industrialization, the formation of human, scientific and technological potential, sustainable modernization of traditional economy branches, and development of postindustrial economy branches of the Ural Federal District.
To form the research, education, and innovation cluster in the Ural Federal District, become the leader in natural sciences, engineering, and humanities, and join the global leading educational and competence centers' ranks. The University's strategic aim at the first stage of the development plan is to become the leader among Russian federal universities and higher educational institutions of the Ural Federal District in education, research, and innovation.
Ural Federal University, robust global connections internationalization is one of the University's top priorities. UrFU has established partnerships with about 400 foreign universities from 64 countries of the world the University actively participates in international network projects: BRICS Network University, CIS University, SCO University, University of the Arctic (UArctic), Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities.
Ural Federal University became the first Russian University to be noticed by Fitch Ratings Agency. This agency included UrFU into the Long-Term Foreign- and Local-Currency Issuer Default Ratings ("IDR") at the "BB+" level. The University was also assigned a National Long-Term Rating of 'AA (rus)' and a Short-term foreign currency IDR of 'B'.
Ural Federal University made it to the top three leading Russian universities as per the number of the Russian Science Foundation grantees. According to the contest conducted by the Pension Fund of Russia, Ural Federal University was declared the best employer. UrFU Endowment fund entered the list of three university leaders obtaining the maximum financial support from Potanin Foundation.
Ural Federal University was one of the winners of the Best Taxpayer 2013 contest. The Ural Federal University electronic archive is ranked first in Russia and was included in the top-400 Webometrics Open Archives' Ranking of World Universities. The Specialized Educational Scientific Center (SESC) of UrFU confirmed its status as the Urals' best school. It was included in the top 10 of the best Russian schools, according to the study of the Moscow Center for Continuous Mathematical Education, conducted with the Federal Ministry of Education and Science's assistance.
Ural Federal University took several positions in the top-5 of the "Quality of admission to the state-funded places in the RF public universities" ranking prepared by the Higher School of Economics with the Federal Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. The UrFU Department of Journalism made it to the top ten in ranking 100 Russian universities, training Bachelors of Mass Media. This ranking was prepared by the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation. Business School of UrFU was included in the world rating of the best 1000 Business Schools, prepared by the Eduniversal Agency, ranking 12th among the best Russian business schools.
