Our primary objective is to empower and inspire young impressionable minds and teach our students to embrace challenging situations. Equipped with broad skill sets and a plethora of confidence, they are adequately prepared to face real-world scenarios. As we focus on nurturing the child holistically, we believe that academic achievement goes hand-in-hand with social and emotional development. We believe it is this combination of academics, character building, and social skills that will give our students a competitive advantage. Our students are our champions for them to excel; we foster an environment in which they can be inspired and empowered.
The Ashwood Glen Profile is integral to our Learning Program. These identified skills and qualities are at the core of all learning experiences and serve as the foundation of our school. Children are naturally curious, and we believe that all children can and will learn if they feel valued, respected, and included in their learning community. This belief is echoed throughout our school and is at the core of our programming and decision making.
Making a difference in the lives of those we teach is the purpose of education. We ensure that our students are appropriately challenged, empowered, and supported in their journey to reach their potential. As students are motivated and encouraged by different stimuli, we endeavor to provide them with various opportunities and scenarios and seek their input and ownership in developing their learning curves.
At Ashwood Glen, learning is augmented by encouraging students to explore and investigate the world around them, creatively and innovatively. To empower and engage our students, we provide a safe learning environment for them to embrace challenges, take positive risks, and develop resilience through inquiry and experiential learning.

The Ashwood Glen Learning Program is holistic and balanced, focusing equally on Academics, Activities, and Personal and Social-Emotional Learning (PSEL). The Ashwood Glen Profile is intentionally embedded across all areas of our program to foster a positive school culture that extends to and impacts our community at large.
Our pedagogy integrates core concepts from the established Montessori and the progressive International Baccalaureate (IB) methodologies. By merging these proven formats, we create a unique, well-balanced educational program that facilitates early social and academic learning. The Montessori program's design is ideal for our students in that it stimulates learning through inquiry, harnessing each child's curiosity and exploratory nature. Moreover, the approach allows children to learn at their unique pace and styles.
The IB framework is a concept-driven, transdisciplinary, and inquiry-based approach in which students develop the confidence to take responsibility for their learning to become internationally-minded individuals. They are equipped to make a positive difference in their personal and global communities. The framework promotes and encourages academic and intercultural competencies while simultaneously meeting our students' social and emotional needs.
Our innovative programs extend beyond academics and focus on each child as an individual taking the time to understand and build upon each child's strengths, interests, and capabilities. With small student-teacher ratios, we take meticulous interest in each child's development and focus on individual learning needs to augment the learning outcomes of the Ontario Curriculum. Finally, our programs are designed to promote experiential learning academically, socially, and physically. Cumulatively, these programs provide a unique educational experience that encourages curiosity, ignites passion, and inspires confidence.
Junior School at Ashwood Glen is for Grades 1-5. During these years, we focus on the social, emotional, and academic growth of our students. Taking a differentiated approach, we empower them to build confidence and take responsibility for their behaviors and actions. As we aspire to join the global community of International Baccalaureate (IB) World schools, we have adopted some renowned best practices and built an academic framework around transdisciplinary themes and inquiry-based learning.
The principles and practices of the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) have been adapted to extend the learning expectations outlined in the Ontario curriculum. This approach to teaching and learning allows us to provide a more enriching and holistic experience for our students.
The learning in our junior school classrooms is transdisciplinary and involves a high level of involvement and interaction with peers and the society in which we live. The concept-driven inquiry-based learning model helps students develop the Ashwood Glen Profile and hones the skills and qualities to understand and prepare for challenges ahead.
To provide a strong foundation, critical themes from inquiry-based learning have been incorporated into our program including understanding the self, getting an orientation of our surrounding environment, learning self-expression, understanding the world around us, decision-making, and how it impacts our society and finally building and managing relationships and conflict. Our class sizes range from 10-16 students to a teacher and allow flexibility and personalization of the teaching environment to accommodate different students' needs and requirements.
The Ashwood Glen Middle School is for students from Grades 6-8. During this period, our focus is to hone each students' objectives and abilities further and provide support and guidance along the way.
Developing a positive sense of self, leaning empathy, and displaying confidence, while critical, can be challenging for adolescents. Our Middle School Academic Learning curriculum focuses on providing opportunities for exploration, risk-taking, service learning, and leadership development. Furthermore, the attributes of the Ashwood Glen Profile are thoughtfully embedded in all areas of our program.
Learning activities are designed to help students develop critical skills: critical thinking, secure communication, social and personal management, and finally, research and analysis. Our concept-driven inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning enhances student learning towards the Ontario curriculum standards and supports the development of the skills listed above.
Our pedagogy is inclusive, and at Ashwood, Glen diversity is highly valued and celebrated. We continuously strive to develop international-mindedness and intercultural understanding. To help reinforce this, we have incorporated teambuilding and collaborative activities throughout our programming and curriculum. While these activities are offered to all students, they are differentiated to allow students to learn and embrace them at their own pace. Class sizes range from 10 to 16 students allowing for personalized learning. Our inclusiveness classrooms and flexible teaching curriculum accommodate students with additional learning needs and those with higher abilities.
