The Abat Oliba CEU University was founded in 2003 in Barcelona. It is an institution based on the ideals of the Asociación Católica de Propagandistas (Catholic Propagandistic Association). The core principle in all its initiatives is its vocation of service towards the Catalan society, which follows the Christian spirit and, thus, the inviolable dignity of human life.
The Catholic Church Teachings inspire every academic activity of the UAO CEU. It assumes a mission, “a continuous quest for truth through its research, and the preservation and communication of knowledge for the good of society” (John Paul II, Ex Corde Ecclesiae, § 30). The University’s motto reflects these principles, and it can be read on its coat of arms: Viam sapientiae monstrabo (Pr. 4, 11). It means “I instruct you in the way of wisdom.”
UAO CEU aims to offer students comprehensive training through an educational process that fosters progress in a globalized world. For this reason, UAO CEU commits to the truth, convinced that “the Christian message should always be an encouragement towards truth, and thus a force against the pressure exerted by power and interests” (Benedict XVI). This commitment sets the objective of training individuals whose conviction about truth makes them value the effort for knowledge and respect diversity.
UAO CEU’s educational frame in terms of knowledge transmission offers excellent academic training in the classroom. The focus is put on reality, on the society where students will develop professionally. The academic community as a whole gets involved in achieving this goal.
For this reason, UAO CEU promotes among its students an ethical commitment to society, especially with the defenseless or disadvantaged. We believe in “University as a place of training in solidarity” (Pope Francis). Every member of the university community at UAO CEU has to be aware that excellence in training and research is a call to responsibility and a determined attitude in favor of others.
Since its founding, the aspiration of Abat Oliba CEU University and the determination of those who belong to it is to create a university community in all its sense: a community of knowledge capable of providing society with professionals with criteria of academic mastery involved in the greater good and truth-seeking. Nowadays, universities have a massive influence on social progress and better training of citizens and future leaders to understand social reality. This subject makes Abat Oliba CEU University aware of corporate social responsibility activities while developing its strategic framework as a transverse element that involves all university areas.
