Walailak University is 26 years on 29th March 2018. Walailak University is designed as a comprehensive university (with a variety of fields of study) to serve Thailand's people. Walailak University graduates are expected to have practical intelligence, adversary quotient, Liberal Arts perspective, and technology competence, all integrated with high morals. All activities are designed to enhance Walailak University's uniqueness in its ultimate goal to become "The Education Park of ASEAN," where all the global citizens can find the riches in the knowledge, wisdom, and culture.

The Campus has now been extensively renewed. Some of the older buildings have now been renovated, including the main lecture buildings and dormitories. The newly renovated building for Walailak University Language Institute (WULI) is now housing some 30 foreign staff, with brand new facilities. Sports and Health complex has also been renovated. An entirely new building was completed a couple of months ago, now a home of the School of Architecture and Design, Walailak University International College (WUIC), the International Law Program, and a Moot Court. The "Walailak Park" is emerging as one of the most beautiful spots on the 3,500-acre already lush green Campus. At the Park, there is such a delightful veranda stretching out to the serene lake. Watching the sun going down behind the Khao Luang Mountain from the veranda in the evening is quite an experience.

Indeed, there are so many exciting things happening at Walailak University, located in Thasala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, some 800 kilometers south of Bangkok. In other words, it is in the upper part of the South of Thailand. It is only an hour flight from Bangkok. Imagine when the Walailak University Hospital Center's construction is completed in two years, it will transform this now the second-largest city in the province even further.

Walailak University is a residential university equipped with modern educational facilities, services, and accommodation for students and staff, located against a beautiful backdrop of mountain scenery in Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Thailand. The Campus is 780 kilometers south of Bangkok, a 21⁄2 hour drive from the beach resorts of Samui Island, Surat Thani, and Krabi, and the busy commercial center and the international airport of Hat Yai. Nakhon Si Thammarat is well served by daily air, train, and bus services from Bangkok, Hat Yai, Phuket, and Malaysia. The University has a total area of 3,600 acres, making it the largest Campus in Thailand. Besides the main Campus at Tha Sala, Walailak also has a coordinating office in Bangkok and a neighboring Surat Thani province.

Walailak University aims to discover, seek, maintain, and disseminate knowledge and academic excellence for society's progress. At the heart of its obligation is to develop individuals who are both professionally-proficient and morally healthy.

The University's Four Commitments:

  • To lead high-level training of students based on world standards, consistent with the socio-economic development of the South of Thailand and Thailand as a whole
  • To conduct studies, research in order to develop new knowledge that can be of benefit to national productivity and can help enhance the international competitiveness of Thailand
  • To provide and share expertise and technical services to organizations, both private and government sectors, including research and training and technological transfer in areas that can help develop the region and country
  • To act as a center for the conservation and restoration of art and culture.

Walailak University is positioned to be an integral part of the world. That is why we have set up several international colleges and international programs offering courses in English. More courses in English will be put in place for international students to choose from. We are well-positioned academically, geographically/environmentally, and culturally. Nakhon Si Thammarat is both historic and historical! It used to be one of Asia's commercial and cultural centers. The city does maintain its past strengths, on which its current growth is being visible. We at Walailak University are proud to be a part of this growing city.
