The University of the Highlands and Islands is the United Kingdom's leading integrated university encompassing further and higher education.
We are not a traditional university. We are different. We are part of a new breed of tertiary institutions, the only one in Scotland and only a few in Europe.
Based in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, our distinctive partnership of 13 independent colleges and research institutions is locally based and rooted in communities and national and international reach, as part of a regional university structure.
Our reputation is built on our innovative approach to learning and our distinctive research and curriculum, enriched by the people, natural environment, economy, culture, and heritage of the Highlands and Islands and its communities.
We have 40,000 students at the heart of our university partnership, and their success measures us. Our curriculum portfolio across both further and higher education is designed to meet current and future local and regional needs and to attract other students to the Highlands and Islands to study.
Honorary awards are conferred upon individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievement in their field for their contribution to the life of the Highlands and Islands or society at large or their service to our university.
The Honorary Awards Committee is delegated powers by the University Court to invite recommendations and determine recipients for the award of any of Fellowship of the University of the Highlands and Islands, Master of the University, and recommend recipients Chancellor's Medal.
The principal and vice-chancellor, secretary, and associated staff are responsible for the overall operations of the University of the Highlands and Islands as well as relationships with our partner colleges and research institutions throughout the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
The University Archive actively preserves records that evidence the history, development, and activities of the University of the Highlands and Islands.
It also acquires, makes available, and preserves collections that support academic research and teaching activities conducted at the university and collections documenting the lives and work of people and groups associated with the university.
The University Archive accepts gifts and bequests in different formats from members of the public and the university community related to its areas of research, activity, and geographical extent, in line with the Collections Policy.
The university prefers to receive items/collections as a gift. Donors will be asked to complete a Deposit Agreement Form specifying the terms and conditions of donation and must present evidence of ownership and authority to deposit.
Please contact the University Archivist and Records Manager if you would like to donate items, collections, or make a bequest to the university. The University Archivist and Records Manager will appraise all gifts and donations before accepting them into the University Archives. Every effort will be made to avoid conflict and duplication with other public archive services' collecting policies.
