Comenius University in Bratislava is the oldest and biggest University in the Slovak republic. Established in 1919, the University draws on the tradition of Academia Istropolitana that was founded in 1465 in Bratislava by Matthias Corvinus, the King of Hungary. Since its founding, the University has ranked among the best educational institution on the national level, and it has become an internationally recognized center of scientific study and research. Being the most comprehensive provider of classical university education in Slovakia, Comenius University has retained the Slovak national university's status.

Comenius University in Bratislava has 13 faculties and serves 27,000 students each year within all three-degree study programs, 21,000 full-time students. Comenius university offers diverse study programs encompassing a broad range of human knowledge - from medicine, humanities, and social sciences, to natural sciences, mathematics, and theology.

Almost 2,400 international students from 70 countries enjoy studying at the oldest University in Slovakia. Students who wish to attend foreign universities as part of our study abroad program can choose from 340 European universities located in 30 countries, all of which have concluded bilateral agreements with Comenius university as part of the Erasmus+ program. The most visited countries by our students as part of the LLP/ERASMUS program include Spain, Germany, and the Czech republic. With more than 2,500 doctoral students, Comenius University in Bratislava is also a major scientific institution. Comenius university participates in the most advanced research projects in various scientific disciplines (primarily biology, biochemistry, chemistry, computer sciences, clinical medicine, ecology, geosciences, materials science and engineering, molecular biology, and genetics, neurosciences, pharmacology, physics, life sciences, and space sciences).

Comenius University's fundamental mission is the advancement and dissemination of knowledge and its understanding. As a UNIVERSITY, it is a scientific institution in which research opens up new horizons and, at the same time, enhances knowledge transfer. As a UNIVERSITY, it distinguishes itself from other research centers by its autonomous statement of problems, by the disinterested character of fundamental research, by its focus on education, and by the fact that within its walls, it encompasses almost all the scientific disciplines. As a UNIVERSITY, it distinguishes itself from other educational institutions because its teaching is based on and nourished by its research and the world-wide scientific knowledge and by its interdisciplinary approach to solving problems. As a UNIVERSITY, it defines its tasks and priorities autonomously, and the members of its academic community enjoy academic freedom in the exercise of their duties. As a UNIVERSITY, it is a guarantee of freedom and democracy not only within its walls. One of its fundamental duties is to broaden and disseminate this mission also in the outside environment. As a UNIVERSITY, it must defend its academic freedom and autonomy. As a higher education institution which aspires to be a member of leading European centers of academic excellence and as an INTERNATIONALLY ORIENTED UNIVERSITY, the University's core strategic objectives are:
