Alytus KOLEGIJA University of Applied Sciences was established in 2000 to adopt the new Law on Higher Education, which introduced a binary system of Higher education in Lithuania.
In the two faculties of Engineering and Biomedicine and ICT, the students develop academic and professional competencies in Management and Business Administration, Informatics, Informatics Engineering, Transport Engineering, Civil Engineering, Food Processing, and Health. Alytus KOLEGIJA University of Applied Sciences is involved in regional business society's life through active participation in regional science application activities and research development, fostering the community skills of working under the conditions of rapid change of technologies.
Active involvement in educational EU programs enables ALYTAUS KOLEGIJA University of Applied Sciences to contribute to integrating integration into the development of European higher education. Alytus KOLEGIJA University of Applied Sciences co-operates with foreign institutions of higher education, business, and education associations and businesses; it also works on science application in the study areas of social sciences, technological sciences, humanities, and physical sciences, fostering curriculum development, adult education and distance learning.

To educate qualified specialists of business and technology fields acquiring higher professional education, who can work independently under conditions of the competitive market and supply social and economic needs of Alytus region and the country to provide conditions for lifelong learning, improve the acquired qualification and retrain raise educated, creative, respectable, enterprising and ethically responsible personalities, educate the society, form its social, technological and engineering culture, moral values, public spirit, and civic self-consciousness.
Alytus KOLEGIJA/University of Applied Sciences provides nationally and internationally accredited higher education study programs, offering a Professional Bachelor's degree. Its teaching and research activities are focused on business studies, social sciences, engineering, and technology. Two thousand students are enrolled in 11 study programs with excellent standards of studies.
The learning environment has been developed in close cooperation with regional business society; therefore, students' skills correspond to the modern labor market needs. Alytus KOLEGIJA University of Applied Sciences plays a significant role in research and development, fostering the community skills of working under the rapid change of technologies. Implementation of international projects under educational EU programs provides additional strength to the institution through integration into European higher education development. Close cooperation and networking with universities/higher education institutions, industries, companies, and other organizations in the public sector have a positive impact on science application in the study areas of social sciences, technological sciences, humanities, and physical sciences, fostering curriculum development, adult education and distance learning. The higher education diploma of ALYTAUS KOLEGIJA University of Applied Sciences is validated in all higher education institutions and all employers in Europe. It qualifies for graduate studies globally. This is confirmed by the Diploma Supplement Label granted to the ALYTAUS KOLEGIJA University of Applied Sciences by the European Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency.
There are three faculties, a library, an academic bookshop, a business simulation company, centers of distance learning, publishing, competences and applied science activities, public relations, and an incubator of ideas in ALYTAUS KOLEGIJA University of Applied Sciences. The University has created an efficient teaching and learning system. Students can use rich funds of the ISSC (scientific literature, periodicals, video and audio resources, teaching materials stored in CD ROMs), a modern Internet reading room, unique scientific on-line databases (BNS, EBSCO host, etc.) as well as LITLEX and teaching/learning sets of materials from the Intranet, and the opportunities provided by the distance learning.
Students take an active part in research activities, student mobility, and other international projects, as well as in extra-curriculum activities, sports events, performances of the student choir, and other art groups. They can use rich material facilities: sport and conference halls. The Students' Embassy representing ALYTAUS KOLEGIJA University of Applied Sciences students takes an active part in organizing various activities. It organizes events, tournaments, quizzes, conferences, seminars, and participates in national and international youth projects.
