Széchenyi István University is located in Győr, the center of Central Europe's "golden triangle." We are halfway between Hungary, Austria, and Slovakia, along highway M15, on the Danube.
This ideal location made Győr a critical automotive and industrial center. Here we can find the largest engine factory globally: Audi Hungaria Motor Kft. and hundreds of automotive suppliers. The University provides education and pursues research in engineering, especially for the automotive industry, IT, architecture pedagogy, economics, international relations, law, administration, social work, medicine and health, musical arts, agriculture, and teacher training. Széchenyi István University's quality is reflected in the national and international marketplace, as many multinational companies hire our graduates and work with our University (e.g., Audi, Bosch, Flextronics, Grundfos, IBM). Our activities include education at all levels, from vocational courses BSc, MSc to the doctoral level, and beyond life-long learning.
Our University offers unique training and research in the region, which serves engineering-focused production activities, helps build the North-Transdanubian economy and its social and institutional infrastructure. Our activities provide students with high-level, professional, and practical education. Graduates can adapt to the highly competitive and changing marketplace.
We have 45 years of tradition and experience supporting Hungary ́s leading industries with a strong focus on vehicle engineering, transportation, and telecommunication. As a result, our University has become the primary driver of the public service sector's regional economy provider. It supplies the human resources and training needs for the North-Transdanubian region.
The University has more than 40 engineering laboratories. A large number has been modernized through EU projects, so they can be used in education and in promoting scientific co-operation with companies in the region. There is free Internet access for all university students, and there are numerous computer rooms available for academic instruction and use by the students.
The library is the information center for professional literature at the University, but it also operates as a public technical library in the Transdanubian region. Its collection contains classical and contemporary Hungarian and foreign books connected to the particular areas taught in the University's regular and specialized courses.
The University provides a unique sports facility-network for physical education. The Sports Hall (jointly operated by the city) and the University Training Hall allow for PE activities from the morning until midnight. The cardio- and training rooms, the sports fields, park, the River Danube, and the swimming hall, which are either on-campus or close to it, are facilities that are frequented by our students.
The Students' Unions represent the students' interests at each level and in each body of the University. The Students' Self-Government asserts the students' legal rights, decides on the allocation of state support, and assists in dealing with the students' educational and social concerns.
The scientific papers and studies of Széchenyi István University are published in the scientific journals of the University. These Journals (Acta Technica Jaurinensis, Hungarian Electronic Journal of Sciences) present the research results at the University. This allows a quick, refereed electronic publishing forum available at both national and international levels and improves the University's publication activities' quantity and quality.
