KU Leuven is dedicated to education and research in nearly all fields. Its fifteen faculties offer education, while the departments and research groups organize research activities. These faculties and departments, in turn, are clustered into three groups: Humanities and Social Sciences, Science, Engineering and Technology (SET), and Biomedical Sciences. Each of these groups has a doctoral school for its doctoral training programs.
KU Leuven comprises the University as well as University Hospitals Leuven and the KU Leuven Research & Development tech transfer office (LRD). We collaborate with renowned universities, research institutions, organizations, and companies in Belgium and abroad.

An academic year at KU Leuven consists of two semesters, each ending with an exam period. The first semester runs from September up to and including January, the second from February up to June. The calendar may differ slightly between campuses.
