The Romanian-American University was founded in1991, whose mission is to promote American academic education's educational values, given Romanian education's rich traditions. The establishment of the Romanian-American University belonged to the late Prof. Ion Smedescu, Ph.D., founder of the Romanian-American University and president of the Romanian-American Foundation for the Promotion of Education and Culture. The Romanian-American University is an independent institution without being affiliated or sponsored by American University.

The Romanian-American University is part of the Romanian-American Foundation for the Promotion of Education and Culture, having promoted the American high education's educational values on the background of the rich traditions of Romanian education, which are internationally recognized. Within the context of the university reform and Romania's integration process in the European Union, the introduction of the European dimension, matching of the curricula, the compliance with the European standards, promotion of the academic performance criteria internationally recognized, the interuniversity cooperation, academic mobility and the recognition of the studies and diplomas are among the strategic objectives of the Romanian-American University.

The Romanian-American University considers it to be its duty of honor to meet the requests of all those interested in completing their professional preparation and offering its support to those who decide to attend the courses of one of its six faculties and master. We have taken the necessary steps that have allowed us to present a different educational offer on the market of educational services by adopting a system based on two levels: license and master.

The Romanian-American University's mission is to offer education and research to a high standard of quality within an internal intellectually stimulating climate both for the students and for the teaching staff. The entire academic community's efforts are directed toward the continuous improvement of the quality of the teaching, learning, and scientific research process and the professional services.

The Romanian-American University pursues the accomplishment of the students' educational ideal based on the universal humanist traditions, on the democratic values, keeping the national identity and the fulfillment of the aspirations of the Romanian society, to which purpose:

  • It provides the students the scientific knowledge and the values of the national and universal culture, contributing to the development of Romanian science, rendering famous the national cultural identity
  • It forms and develops the students' professional capacity and practical abilities through the assimilation of the specialized knowledge
  • It promotes scientific research activity among the students and the teaching staff
  • It educates the students to respect the fundamental human rights and freedom, dignity, and tolerance, the free exchange of opinions.

The Romanian-American University has the following strategic objectives:

The increase in university management efficiency

  • To offer quality education services, permanently adapted to the needs of a knowledge-based society
  • The evolution towards a European system of diplomas and certificates for high education, a system that complies with the compatibility requests all over the world
  • The improvement of the European system of transferable credits, so as the transferable credit may show the real effort for the learning of each subject of study
  • Institutional connection to the common European and Euro Atlantic university area
  • Development of the university scientific research according to the European standards
  • The extensive involvement of the University in projects of social, economic, cultural development, locally or nationally, through activities of continuous preparation, technological transfer, expertise, consultancy
  • Promotion of complex systems and mechanisms to ensure the quality of the education
  • Creation and development of institutional culture to encourage the entire academic community's involvement in the implementation of the Quality Management System.
