Steiner education endeavors to guide and nourish each student's physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual development through approaches and activities appropriate to the early childhood, primary, and secondary school stages – building the capacity, confidence, and love for learning in a changing world. Located in a semi-rural area of East Maitland, an appealing natural environment is the setting for the students' journey through their school education, rich with discovery, imagination, and deep engagement. Here they can learn, grow, and develop a sense of purpose as individuals and as part of a new community.

Linuwel School respectfully acknowledges the Wonnarua people as the traditional custodians of the land upon which our school lives. We acknowledge that this beautiful country has been cared for by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for over 60 thousand years, living in harmony with nature. Thanks to elders past, present, and future for sharing, through stories, their spiritual knowledge and wisdom of this land and her sacred places. It is a blessing to learn, share, and grow together.

Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings who can impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility these three forces are the very nerve of education. Lemuel is a school for Rudolf Steiner education established in 1979, with approximately 250 students from Kindergarten to Class 12. The school also operates a pre-school for 3 1/2 to 5-year-olds. We promote an environment where

  • Our work is permeated by Rudolf Steiner's indications for education and the underlying philosophy. We build from strong foundations but remain contemporary and open to change. We strive for a spiritual understanding of our lives.
  • We provide each child with a sound education that will equip them for their life beyond school through a comprehensive curriculum and consideration for all aspects of their being. Each individual is respected. We acknowledge their strengths, support their needs, and promote their self-responsibility.
  • The teachers are committed to professional development, and through their example, inspire and encourage creativity, imagination, curiosity, and enthusiasm for ongoing learning. The kingdom of childhood is revered love and gratitude, goodness, beauty, and truth permeate our endeavors.
  • A strong sense of community is fostered. We work together and communicate openly with kindness and respect to nurture relationships between parents, teachers, children, and the wider community. We participate fully and consciously in the life of the school and its events.
  • The environment is welcoming and attractive, safe, and suited to the children's development and education. The natural world is observed, explored, and nurtured as a reflection of spiritual truths.

The visual and performing arts and crafts are woven through the academic curriculum, incorporating national and state requirements. Teachers strive for a deep understanding of each student, enabling them to provide enjoyable learning opportunities for individuals to develop the skills and self-esteem to confidently move into the next phase of their life on completion of Class 12.
