The Islamic College of Melbourne's purpose is to provide our students with the opportunity, motivation, environment, and programs to reach their full potential as healthy individuals and contribute to members of the community emotionally, socially, creatively, and academically. The school's approach will have as its foundation the development of productive and cooperative relationships between all school community members. Our philosophy is reflected in the following shared understandings

  • Obey the commandments of Allah and seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave
  • Think for yourself, think for others
  • Like for others, what you like for yourself
  • Keep a smile on your face
  • Learn to wait, but do not wait to learn
  • Nobody is perfect, but everybody is important
  • Strive for your best
  • Respect others if you want others to respect you.

The Islamic College of Melbourne (ICOM) was registered on the 1st of February, 2011. The school opened its doors for the first lot of students on the 7th of February, 2011. Ninety-seven students were arranged in four groups ranging from years prep to four. The classes commenced in newly constructed, demountable buildings. Staff and students were excited to begin the year; it was such a memorable experience.

At present, the school caters to over 1,100 students and has 110 staff members, ranging from teachers, support staff, and administration. The Islamic College of Melbourne is a co-educational institute that is currently offering Foundation to Year 12. Students are provided with opportunities to develop skills that will carry them beyond their school years. We offer excellence in Quran instruction, a modern curriculum about the secular subjects, hands-on and practical approach to all the subjects, including the extracurricular activities. Our curriculum is diverse and is taught by experienced and highly qualified teachers.

Education, a life-long journey, is Learning to Know, to Do, to Be and to Live Together. As expressed in the Teachings of Islam and the Australian Democratic Principles, the values of Openness and Tolerance are integral to this definition of learning. At the Islamic College of Melbourne, we believe in preparing students for lifelong learning. Although it is essential to teach children how to read, write, and understand mathematics, it is also crucial to teach them learning to learn to benefit from the opportunities education provides throughout life.

Students are continually given the opportunities to apply the knowledge they acquire. These opportunities equip them with the competence to deal with many situations and work in teams. In all areas of learning, students are allowed to explore and experiment. The values of integrity, trust, and respect are integral parts of the teaching at the Islamic College of Melbourne. Through the teaching of Islamic studies and the Quran, students develop the ability to act with greater autonomy, judgment, and personal responsibility.

Students at the Islamic College of Melbourne learn to appreciate and respect cultural diversity through ICOM's multicultural community. We teach our students to live together by developing an understanding of other people and an appreciation of interdependence. Collaborative work and managing conflicts enable our students to respect each other and teach them the importance of mutual understanding and peace.
