Life is rich with new experiences, friendships, and challenges, especially while boarding at Huntingtower, one of the top academic schools in Victoria. Caring staff motivates, guides our borders, encourages them to strive for excellence, develops a strong foundation in spiritual values, and nurtures a lifelong love of learning.
Huntingtower has provided boarding facilities since 1927, making it the oldest coeducational boarding school in Victoria. The Boarding House accommodates up to 30 boarders from Years 7 to 12. Students in Year 12 have single rooms with study facilities, while students from Years 7 to 11 may share with another student. Weekly and full-time boarding are offered.
The Huntingtower Boarding House is a ‘home away from home’ — an extended family environment where our young people are loved and valued. Students are encouraged to learn and demonstrate valuable life skills, such as useful study and work habits, independence, cooperation, respect, and confidence. Many opportunities are provided for the boarders to show initiative, develop their social skills, and feel a sense of worth.
A House Father and Mother operate the Boarding House. Four supervisors, two of whom are on duty at any given time, support the House Father in providing a happy, structured, and caring environment. All work closely with the boarders and their families to support each student in their growth and development. Assistance is also given with homework and pastoral care.
Recently, Huntingtower initiated a Middle School Boarding program — ’Staying Away @ HT.’ An opportunity exists for every Middle School student (Years 7 to 9) to spend one term in the Boarding House. We feel that the skills learned through this type of independent living are an essential part of the curriculum that we provide to prepare our students to become lifelong learners. This program is also of benefit to our full-time borders because it enables them to forge new friendships and interact with a more significant number of students.
