Baliuag University began as Baliuag Institute in 1925, a small high school with only 75 students. Baliuag Institute closed down during the Japanese occupation in 1941. It reopened two years later and offered Junior Normal and Liberal Arts, both two-year courses, in 1946.
In 1947, the government elevated the school's status from Institute to Junior College. Subsequent developments like campus improvements, new course offerings, and yearly growth of student population paved the way to another milestone – Baliuag Junior College became Baliuag Colleges in 1968.
In 2001, Baliuag Colleges had declared a university and granted a status of full autonomy by the Commission on Higher Education. As a result, it has become a self-regulated institution with most of its course offerings granted with Level III Course Accreditation Status. Such status gives the Baliuag University the freedom to offer new academic programs without the need for the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). This status speaks of CHED's confidence in Baliuag University's capability to sustain high-quality educational programs.
Today, Baliuag University offers elementary, high school, college, and graduate programs. For its students' outstanding performance in board examinations, Baliuag University has been repeatedly ranked by the Professional Regulation Commission among the top universities in nursing, library science, engineering, and education board examinations. Baliuag University has stayed true to its founding vision, mission, and guiding philosophy throughout its history, all of which play crucial roles in making Baliuag University one of the most respected, most innovative, and leading academic institutions in the region.
Baliuag University welcomes all qualified students to become a member of their community. We offer a wide variety of degree programs that will bring out the best in you. With more than 100 student organizations, the campus life here goes beyond the classroom. The Center for Research is a service unit under the vice president's office for Academic Affairs and Research (VPAAR). The Center for Research shall consist of the Research Director, Assistant Director, and Research staff appointed by the University for a prescribed term. More specifically, the Research Director performs the following functions.
Research work in Baliuag University (B.U.) is guided by the CHED's NHERA (2009-2018), [which integrates the concerns of the higher education sector with the overall development goals and objectives of the country], the National Innovation System and the higher education international community (CHED-NHERA, 2009). Further, any research project pursued by faculty and staff is also directed by the University research agenda, anchored on B.U.'s institutional objectives. For philosophical purposes, research works in B.U. are influenced by the faculty and staff's fields of specialization and interests needs of the University and community or its service areas and the University research facilities and resources.
Baliuag University, through its Faculty Research Program (FRP), which is being supervised by the University's Center for Research, provides faculty members with research opportunities for personal and intellectual growth and improved teaching capability. Under this Program, proponents may obtain funds for direct research expenses, and at the same time, be compensated in terms of overloading or a research honorarium equivalent to the number of research units awarded to the project. Research grants are awarded to B.U. Academic teaching and non-teaching staff. Priority is given to full-time faculty members.
Further, the Paper and Poster Presentation Grant Program of Baliuag University allocates funds for its faculty members for travel expenses incurred in presenting research outputs funded by the University administration in academic and research conferences. The grant is part of the Administration's support to encourage faculty members to produce scholarly research outputs that meet local and international standards. This is aligned with the institutional vision of the University to be recognized for its research achievements.
Through the said Program, faculty members from different departments and colleges have been allowed to present in various local and international conferences as very competitive research presentation packages have been awarded. Baliuag University, through its comprehensive research programs, has managed to increase faculty research proficiency and productivity. Faculty members have been even more enticed to engage in research endeavors as their research outputs are considered part of the reclassification criteria.
The library is one of the significant frontliners of an educational institution. The Baliuag University (B.U.) Library now is far from the Baliuag Colleges (B.C.) Library of the fifties up to the nineties. Many changes and improvements have already taken place in the library as the University grows to meet global challenges. During your stay at the University, you will find that your life is not confined to the classroom, to the textbooks, and the company of your classmates. You will also gain the company of information resources and services of the library. Reading opens up your eyes to a new world that you may not possibly reach. It keeps you in touch with ideas and events throughout the world. It transports you back to the past or projects you into the future. Reading may not bring you instant wealth and happiness, but you may become a more mature, more informed, and more responsible citizen of the world through it.
