The Western Philippines University facilitates its Admission and Scholarships Grants by a collaboration of the different University units and colleges that ensure the proper enlistment, selection, settlement, and admission of the student, under the University's law, policy and standard.
From being a humble farm settlement school in 1910, WPU has evolved into a prime mover, a leader, in sustainable development in Western Philippines and beyond through relevant instruction, research, and extension services. Its name has become synonymous with environmental protection and green technology, enabling more people to lead a better life.

The Western Philippines University promotes the best quality education and aims to lead the West Philippines as the leading knowledge center for sustainable development. The University's academic year is divided into two semesters, including sixteen (16) weeks per semester, exclusive registration sessions, and examination periods. A summer session of six (6) weeks following the second semester. The first semester begins every month of June, and the second semester resides in November. The summer term is held from April to May.
The Administration so formed and constituted shall review and recommend to the G.B. policies governing the administration, management, and development planning of the SUC for appropriate action and shall act in an advisory capacity to the SUC President in all matters of his/her office for which he/she seeks advice. They also support services.
The Department of Research and Extension Development certifies the dedication of the Western Philippines University to provide relevant, timely, and globally competitive research and extension for sustainable development that will cater to its students, constituents, stakeholders, and the community. The Department of Research, Extension, and Development evolved from separate Committees of Research and Extension of the Palawan National Agricultural College in 1972. It was strengthened by establishing the Palawan Agricultural Research Center (PARC) and became one division.
Two of the four main functions of a higher education institution were separated into two departments by Board Resolution No. 26 s. 1993, namely: the Department of Research and Development and the Department of Extension, Non-formal and Livelihood Education and Cultural Minority Services. In 1999, it was started to be called the Department of Research, Extension, and Development. However, the two departments were transferred to the Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs in 2004. In 2006, research and extension were again placed under a new department, the Research, Extension, and Development Department through BOR Resolution No. 18., and on June 5, 2009, it was renamed as Department of Research and Development/Extension through Board Resolution No. 240 s.2009.
The Library began the same time with the establishment of the Palawan National Agricultural College in 1963. Prof. Trinidad E. Palao first managed it. The Library was then housed in the present location of the Office of Student Affairs. It has an initial collection of almost 2,000 volumes of books acquired from school funds and donations from AEOP, PCARRD, Asia Foundation, FAO, and UNESCO. In 1985, the Library was transferred to the present building. In 1986, Mr. Anastacio Vergel de Dios took over the post as a Librarian due to the retirement of Prof. Palao.
From 1989-1994, Mrs. Celsa Adier was designated as In-charge of the unit. The Library has undergone several changes in management after the resignation of Mrs. Adier. Faculty members were designated to supervise the Library, namely: Mrs. Rosalinda Cruz, Ms. Analyn Vergel de Dios, Mr. Erfen Bautista, Mrs. Santisima Sotabinto, and Mrs. Maphella A. Ruado. As of 2011, there are approximately 32,000 volumes of books at the Library classified and organized into seven (7) sections that include: reserve, circulation, Filipiniana, special collections, serials and periodicals, and instructional media where the non-print materials were housed. Mini-libraries were established in extramural campuses and colleges within the main campus. The Library is headed by a licensed librarian, an assistant librarian, casual employees, and ten (10) student assistants. This personnel attends to the needs of the library customers.
The Western Philippines University is a state higher education institution located at Aborlan, Palawan. The University began as the Aborlan Farm Settlement School for the Tagbanuas (an indigenous cultural community of Palawan) in 1910. It became the Aborlan Agricultural High School in 1928 and the Palawan Regional Agricultural School in 1960. It was renamed Palawan National School in 1962 and became the Palawan National Agricultural College. Its name was again changed to State Polytechnic College of Palawan in 1995 under R.A. 8012, and in 2004 President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed the R.A. 9260 converting it to Western Philippines University.
