Mountain View College (MVC) is a Seventh-day Adventist institution envisioned to serve the young people's educational needs in the South Philippines. However, as the College grew, many students from all over the Philippines and foreign countries came.
The College officially opened its educational doors to the young people in 1953. It held its first graduation exercises in 1957. Located on a 2,500-foot plateau, MVC faces Mt. Kalatungan and Mt. Kitanglad. The College sits on 1,024 hectares, including farmlands, forests, and ranch lands ideal for industries and, more importantly, for a training ground for students' hands-on experiences. The land has an ample supply of water that makes it possible for MVC to have its hydroelectric plants providing the campus populace with enough electricity besides abundant water supply for all college facilities.
Since the start of the operation, the farms have provided additional revenue for the College and work for many students. The work departments that provide work for the students include the construction, the hydroelectric plants, the farm, the cafeteria, the motor pool, the food factory, the student canteen, the store, the dormitories, the library, and the offices.
The College engages full-time and part-time teaching faculty members and staff members in the industrial and support service departments. The College faculty and staff are provided housing facilities and enjoy the prescribed fringe benefits provided by the Seventh-day Adventist organization and those mandated by the country's labor laws.
MVC has been a boarding college since its beginning. It has dormitories that house the students. The college cafeteria provides more than a thousand students with vegetarian meals each day throughout the school year.
Government permits have been secured for the following courses: Master in Management, Master of Arts in English, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Arts in English, Bachelor of Arts in History, Bachelor of Arts in Theology, Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, Bachelor of Science in Biology, Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Office Administration, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Certificate in Agricultural Science, Associate in Office Administration, and Automotive Technology. Government permits are also secured for primary education: High School, Elementary, and Kindergarten.
The history of MVC is a story of steady growth. From fifty-five enrollees in its first year of operation, the student population has grown to more than 2,000 students. Thus, to answer the growing population and felt needs of the new millennium youth, new facilities were established – a more critical and more modern library, a high school building, a new School of Nursing building, additional dormitories, a Student Center, and other facilities. Also, the SN Annex for junior and senior nursing students was put up in Valencia City.
A robust faculty-upgrading scheme is a priority in the faculty development program of the College. It aims to develop the faculty towards strong academic qualifications and strengthen professional status in the academic community.
