Wartburg College is a liberal arts college of the Lutheran Church (ELCA). You do not have to be Lutheran, or even Christian, to appreciate how a Wartburg education will help you discover meaning and purpose for your life. Many colleges work from a common creed or statement of belief where faith is imposed. Other colleges keep faith out of community life entirely. At Wartburg College, we use the Lutheran approach to education, which builds community around a lively and inclusive conversation of faith and learning.
Martin Luther, who sparked the Reformation in 1517, was both a pastor and a university professor. He wrestled with the more significant questions of life and how faith could genuinely change the world around us. Because of our Lutheran theological perspective, we want you to also wrestle with these big questions as you work through your four years at Wartburg. We invite and encourage conversations with people of diverse backgrounds and with different spiritual perspectives. In turn, you will learn more about your own beliefs and values.

Wartburg students can gain practical, hands-on experience and earn a little extra cash when they work on campus. Sample positions include marketing photographer, web developer, social media manager, baker, technical theatre staff, information desk receptionist, Sir Victor (mascot), ITS technical support, lifeguard, Resident Assistant, and more.
The liberal arts education you will receive at Wartburg allows you to gain the skills required from your chosen field of study and the critical thinking skills required to explore the ethics of decision-making and community engagement, effective communication, cultural competence, and collaboration.
Small colleges have many significant advantages. The biggest advantage is personal access to your professors. You will meet your professors in small classes and on-campus activities. Plus, your faculty advisor is a Wartburg professor. Spend a May Term or summer at Wartburg West in Denver, Colorado. Volunteer for a service trip to an inner-city or a rural area struck by a natural disaster. Study abroad. Join a club or two. Or three, if it fits you.

Wartburg College is named after one of Europe's best-known landmarks, the Wartburg Castle. The Wartburg Castle is a fortress built in 1067 overlooking Eisenach, Germany. During the stormy days of the 16th-century Reformation, the castle provided a refuge for Martin Luther, whose work led to the Lutheran church's formation.
