We are the state's third-largest public University, boasting nearly 15,000 students and more than 150 programs of study.
With a small-town location, personal attention to students, and a close-knit community of engaged learners, we feel like a small college. We are passionate about our students, providing them with a challenging college experience that empowers them with lifelong education.
Southeastern's mission is to lead the educational, economic, and cultural development of southeast Louisiana. As the third-largest university in the state with over 14,500 students, Southeastern is large enough to offer the real college experience that you deserve. Even more importantly, at Southeastern, you are part of a family that cares about you. This is a place where you matter, your input matters, and your time here should be beyond an excellent education – it should be a great experience … and it will.
Southeastern offers over 150 programs of study, many of which are nationally ranked. Taught by the first-class faculty who are here to give you the one on one attention you deserve, your classes will be impactful from day one. With opportunities to learn outside of the classroom, you will graduate the real-world ready, pursue your passion while gaining the experience that will make you a vital asset in the workplace.
With state-of-the-art nationally and regionally recognized programs, you will earn a degree that is second to none in the marketplace. Learning by doing while earning real-world experience prepares you for an ever-advancing global economy.
A Southeastern degree is consistently ranked as one of the best values in higher education, and we recently were named one of the most affordable institutions with high-earning graduates. Find detailed information about the cost to attend Southeastern, as well as payment deadlines, housing, and meal plan information, and more.
Southeastern offers some financial aid opportunities to help students keep costs to a minimum while pursuing their college education. Our financial aid programs include federal and state aid, scholarships, work-study positions, and graduate assistantships.
Our unique scholarship programs include comprehensive packages for qualified beginning newcomers and transfer students and awards for current students with demonstrated academic success. Many academic departments also offer competitive scholarships to students in those disciplines.
We believe that counseling can help individuals learn about themselves, their environment, and their methods of handling roles and relationships. Through counseling, clients will have the support of a counselor and the freedom to determine how they wish to resolve the challenges facing them.
The Office of Disability Services facilitates the process of academic accommodations for students with disabilities. It works in collaboration with other University departments to ensure full participation in all activities, programs, and services of the University.
By applicable law and University policy, Southeastern Louisiana University ensures equal opportunity for all qualified students with disabilities, without regard to disability, in the University's programs and services.
A person with a disability is any person with a physical or mental impairment, which substantially limits one or more major life activities. Disabilities include but are not limited to physical disabilities, blind or visual impairment, deaf or hearing impairment, psychological disorders, learning disabilities, and ADHD. Appropriate accommodations enable a student with a disability to compete equally with his/her non-disabled peers but are not intended to place a disabled student at an academic advantage.
The Office of Career Services provides students and alumni with many career counseling and job search assistance services. All job opportunities posted by employers can be found in LionHire. We also help employers hire Southeastern students and alumni for part-time jobs, internships, and full-time positions.
Southeastern Louisiana University began as a grass-roots movement by the people of Hammond and the surrounding area. They recognized the need for an institution of higher education to further the educational, economic, and cultural development of southeast Louisiana. What began as a junior college supported by local taxes has developed into a major university as Southeastern has grown to meet southeast Louisiana's evolving needs.
