Unifying two renowned legacies of innovation, education, research, and professional excellence, Jefferson (Philadelphia University +Thomas Jefferson University) has more than three combined centuries of history. Driven by this newly united and rich past, Jefferson delivers unique and high-impact professional education to our students in the areas of architecture, business, design, engineering, fashion, health, medicine, science, textiles, and more.
Thomas Jefferson University was founded in 1824 as Jefferson Medical College, and Philadelphia University was founded in 1884 as the Philadelphia Textile School. Both were ahead of their time and focused on the importance of experiential learning. The new Jefferson was established on July 1, 2017, due to the merger of these two renowned universities.
Today, we are a professional university that defies convention and dedicates itself to collaborative, transdisciplinary, and interprofessional learning approaches that offer a dynamic and expandable platform for education. 96% of our undergraduate students and more than 65% of our graduate students receive financial assistance. The Office of Student Financial Aid helps students secure federal, state, institutional, and private funding.
The University Office of Student Financial Aid helps students secure federal, state, institutional, and private funding to help meet the cost of pursuing undergraduate allied health, graduate, or medical education at Thomas Jefferson University. Also, the University Office of Student Financial Aid acts as an educational debt management resource for students, Jefferson Health System residents, and TJU alumni.
We are committed to making a high-quality, professional education affordable for every qualified student. If meeting educational costs is a concern, we encourage you to apply for financial aid, regardless of family financial circumstances. Over 90% of our students receive aid in grants, loans, campus employment, and scholarships.
On July 1, 2017, leadership from Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University signed an agreement approved by both Boards of Trustees to combine them. You will continue to communicate with the East Falls campus admissions and financial aid counseling staff to ensure seamless integration of financial aid funds.
Jefferson University sets a high priority on exchanging ideas, research, education, and care with the international community members. We welcome people from all over the world to work, study, and engage in research at Jefferson and encourage Jeffersonians to do the same abroad.

The ability to make rapid and meaningful advances in our understanding and treatment of complex human diseases increasingly relies on forming cohesive research teams that bring together scientists with distinct but complementary expertise. At Jefferson, we have focused our efforts on creating and supporting "Programmatic" investigators' teams in several vital scientific domains.
Descriptions of core facilities and service centers have been created to be used as needed for facilities, resources, and environment grant pages. There are links to the Jefferson Research Conduct and Compliance office, including offices such as Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC), and Institutional Biosafety Office.
Health science is always changing, and our continuing education programs keep physicians and health professionals up-to-date on the latest practices.
The Jefferson College of Humanities and Sciences has a laser focus on human social interactions and relationships, from the individual to regional, national, and international institutions. Here the philosopher meets the political scientist; the sociologist meets the community activist, the historian meets the mathematician, the writer meets the physicist, in a place where transdisciplinary collaboration defines our teaching and our research. The faculty of the College of Humanities and Sciences teach both in its major programs and the Hallmarks Program for General Education, supporting the education of professionals with an awareness of all the national and global issues that impact their professional and personal lives.
To thrive in a world that prizes information and those that can use it well, students gain vital communication and presentation skills and learn to develop, analyze, and apply information to address key policy issues at the national and global scale. Hands-on experiential learning brings students directly into contact with professional practices and organizations in ways that allow them to draw upon and contribute to their University, municipal and national communities. A commitment to making a change in the world by combining evidence-based analysis with passionate community engagement is central to the vision and mission of the College of Humanities and Sciences.
