Generally, to be eligible for funding under the Higher Education Act Title IV student assistance programs, an educational program must lead to a degree at a nonprofit or public institution, or it must prepare students for "gainful employment in a recognized occupation." The majority of John F. Kennedy University's certificate programs are Title IV eligible.
The LEAP program's mission is to help youth from underserved populations succeed in sport, school, and life through mental skill-building. Sport Psychology Program team members empower participants to reflect, recognize their potential, understand how to reach it, and to make sound, thoughtful decisions along the way. LEAP becomes a bridge to the future, using sport participation as a catalyst to help youth apply these skills both on and off the field.
Through participation in the LEAP program, youth learn sport psychology techniques and team building in a supportive, positive reinforcement environment. Rather than focusing only on sports, youth learn to use sports psychology to improve their life skills and develop respect for themselves and others.
As part of JFK University's broader mission to provide practical experience for students while making positive contributions to the local community, the LEAP Program offers students in the Sport Psychology Program the opportunity to gain first-hand experience working with underserved youth, using sport psychology techniques to empower the youth through mental skills training.
To provide students with on-the-job training while at the same time providing valuable services to underserved segments of the local population, the College of Law requires all students to participate in one of the College's highly regarded clinical programs. Students may work with the Housing Advocacy Clinic, the Legal Clinic for Elders, or the Children, Families, and the Law Program.
