Founded in 1838, Greensboro College provides undergraduate students with a proper liberal-arts education while also offering four master’s degrees. Greensboro College provides a coeducational and independent learning atmosphere with approximately 1,000 undergraduate students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and seven foreign countries. We have 45 full-time faculty who teach 32 majors and more than 1,000 different courses directly to our students. We pride ourselves on our one-on-one contact between faculty and students, with no graduate assistants or teaching assistants teaching courses at Greensboro. We consider ourselves a leader in academic advising and leadership development programs.
Besides, our 17-sport NCAA Division III athletic program is nationally recognized. Our affiliation with the United Methodist Church allows students to stay grounded in their faith and grow spiritually. When searching for the college that best fits you, think about what is most important to your overall experience and help guide you to a successful and prosperous future. If intellectual, personal, and spiritual development is essential to you, your search ends at Greensboro College. Greensboro College is a Yellow Ribbon school and is also designated as a Military Friendly School.
The Strategic Vision Statement of Greensboro College, which frames the aspirations of the college for the long-term future: Greensboro College, grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church, aspires to provide all students with a transformative, universally designed educational experience that positively affects their lives so they may realize their full potential.
The Mission Statement of Greensboro College, which is the definition of what GC is today and why the institution exists: Greensboro College provides a liberal arts education grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church and fosters the intellectual, social, and spiritual development of all students while supporting their individual needs.
Unlike most small, private, liberal-arts colleges, Greensboro College is located within the vibrant downtown district of a medium-sized city. Shopping, dining, entertainment, nightlife, theatre, art, sports, and internships are close and convenient. Explore the vintage shops on Elm Street, or check out a show at the city’s beloved Triad Stage — it is all just steps away. Greensboro is a growing, thriving epicenter of art, theatre, higher education, business, and much more. It is the third-largest city in North Carolina and centrally located in the bustling Piedmont region. The city also is just a two-hour drive from the mountains and 3 ½ hours from the beach. Vibrant and diverse, Greensboro is one of North Carolina’s best places to learn, work, and play.
Small numbers, like 12. That is the average number of students in a Greensboro College class. Like 13:1, our student-to-faculty ratio. Like 1,000. That is our entire student body. Like 17, the number of sports in our NCAA Division III athletic program competes in the USA South Athletic Conference. And especially like 1. We believe that each student is the one student we have the opportunity to genuinely know, encourage and prepare — in the classroom, in student life, in a career, and through his or her life. We celebrate all those who give power to small numbers. We celebrate that which makes each student his or her own. It is this rich patchwork of individuality, community, and experience that is unmistakably and uniquely Greensboro.
From your first year as an undergraduate, Greensboro College works with you to prepare you for the next steps toward the future you desire, whether that is work, graduate school, or service. Our First-Year Experience helps prepare you for academic success, whether you are a traditional or adult student, and our Office of Career & Personal Development helps you, beginning with your first year here, to prepare for the next step you choose.
Whether you are a traditional or adult undergrad, whether you are working on a certificate, a bachelor’s degree, licensure, or a master’s degree, our schedule s will fit your needs. Individually and collectively, our students (and faculty and staff!) have a long and healthy history of service, both to the campus and to the community of which it is a part. You come to us from more than 30 states and two dozen countries for a truly student-centered, liberal-arts experience. You come for our close-knit community, strong academic reputation, and one-on-one faculty attention. While at Greensboro College, your bright mind will develop so that you become a well-rounded student, a prepared professional, and an engaged human being who will go on to accomplish great things. Under the wings of dedicated faculty, you will shape your adventure — cleats to loafers, student government to religious life.
