We are one of the largest and higher education providers in the Northwest, with a proven track record of providing quality education since 1896. St Helens College caters to students of all ages, studying at all levels. We provide courses and training to around 8,000 students across two main sites, the Town Centre Campus and the STEM Centre, Technology Campus.
Over recent years there has been significant investment in the facilities at both campuses, with over £65 million being invested in ensuring we have the right infrastructure to support the curriculum and provide a genuinely top-class student experience. Our facilities are exceptional, including a purpose-built animal unit, hair and beauty salons, which are open to the public, a fine dining restaurant run by students, music, TV and radio studios, and much more.
St Helens College works closely with employers from across the Liverpool City Region to close the gap in skills and contribute to the region's economic turnaround. We are actively involved in the community, with local businesses and have excellent links with industry. This allows us to provide excellent opportunities for our students to gain work experience placements, apprenticeships, and job opportunities and help employers ensure that they have a skilled workforce needed for the future.
There is also a breadth of provision for adult learners at St Helen's College, whether it is to study a course that will enable a promotion at work, begin an entirely new career, or only for personal development. We also offer industry courses, courses for leisure, and access courses to look for a new start in life.
University Centre St Helens offers students the opportunity to obtain a first-class degree or professional qualification in a full teaching and learning environment. Our tuition fees are significantly lower than other universities, and with our small, specialist provision, student success and satisfaction is consistently high. In 2015, one in four of our degree students obtained a first-class honors degree.
We understand that it can be a challenge for students to secure employment – which is why we have developed our curriculum to ensure that students are as well-equipped as possible to be competitive in the job market. We develop employability skills such as English and maths, teamwork, attitude to work, and self-awareness. This is also why we offer guaranteed progression, and on several courses, we guarantee an interview for employment at the end of the course.
