Aberystwyth University is celebrating another excellent performance in the annual National Student Survey (NSS) 2017. With an overall satisfaction score of 91% - seven percentage points higher than the UK average of 84% - we are proud to have some of the most satisfied final-year students in the UK. We are also ranked second overall in the UK for Assessment and Feedback.

The Department of Welsh & Celtic Studies received a student satisfaction rating of 100%, with almost every other Department scoring more than 90% for overall satisfaction.

"The latest NSS results speak volumes about Aber's talented and hard-working community of staff and students. We are an innovative university that seeks to inspire through its teaching and transform the lives of our students. We do that within an inclusive and supportive environment, which enables our students to engage with the broader world and embrace its challenges. As we celebrate these NSS results, we do not rest on our laurels and will use this valuable feedback to build further on these firm foundations of success.

Since 2013, Aberystwyth University has been rolling out a significant investment of over £100m to enhance and extend our excellent residential and teaching facilities.

These represent a significant investment in the facilities which will be available to you. They will ensure that you will benefit from world-class teaching and learning facilities to ensure that you have all the skills you will require to succeed in the world of work. This represents one of the most significant investments in the University's history. Together they will ensure that Wales's oldest University will be well placed to survive the challenges of the twenty-first century – Aberystwyth's third century of existence.

Housed within this service department are four teams Planning, Governance, Reporting, and Data Analysis, Project Management & Change Unit. At Executive, Institute and Department level, Planning and Governance support the development and implementation of planning activities and strategy, including the delivery of the University's common Risk Management framework.

Our ambitions for the next five years are underpinned by the values our students and staff have communicated to us. These are values that we know are of central importance to all those who will be working to make the vision of Aberystwyth 2017 a reality. Aberystwyth 2017, is possible because of the people who embody the existing strengths and values of Aberystwyth 2012.

Aberystwyth benefits from a community of students who are vibrant, ambitious, and passionate people. We are committed to delivering a high-quality student experience, and ensuring that students who choose us are rewarded with a qualification that equips them wholeheartedly for their future challenges. We will:

    • Provide a high-quality learning environment, continually investing in our infrastructure.
    • Work closely with our Students' Union, ensuring that the student's voice informs decision making at all levels.
    • Recruit high-quality students across a broad range of subjects.
    • View every student as an individual, providing quality student support tailored to their needs so that they can make the most of their time at Aberystwyth.
    • Work with our alumni and draw on the expertise of our graduates to assist our current students.
    • Provide diverse opportunities for personal development, such as sports, societies, and volunteering.

Our staffs are our most considerable investment and most valuable asset. Aberystwyth has a community of enthusiastic and delightful staff who contribute to our success in student satisfaction surveys. We work closely with and are supported by the local community and benefit significantly from a location of unrivaled beauty. We acknowledge the contribution made to the University's life by the local area and will continue to seek to enrich the cultural, linguistic, and economic life of both Aberystwyth and Wales.

Aberystwyth University possesses a long and distinguished record of undertaking cutting edge research that has been recognized as being world-leading or internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigor, and as stated in the University's Strategic Plan 2012-17.

Research is an integral part of the University's mission and work. A Research Strategy supports it. Its purpose is to ensure that the University can continue to produce a significant volume of high-quality work and respond to the rapidly changing environment in the UK about research and its funding. The University has an excellent range of facilities and resources to assist with research activities, including four substantial libraries, access to a wide range of electronic information sources, and the vast resources of the prestigious National Library of Wales on its doorstep.
