Naresuan University emphasizes educational opportunity and equity for all as one of the top government universities in Thailand. A strong focus is placed upon research, innovation, partnership, and internationalization. Naresuan University aspires to be the University of Innovation. It is strategically located at the heart of the Thai Kingdom, Phitsanulok province, the central city of the lower northern region, and more importantly, the birthplace of King Naresuan the Great for whom our University is named. In line with the auspicious date of the 400th anniversary of King Naresuan the Great’s accession to the throne, the University was officially founded on July 29, 1990. However, the institution’s history can be traced back to its inception as the College of Education in 1967.
The comprehensive University lives up to the public expectations in providing diverse, cutting-edge programs through 22 faculties, colleges, and a demonstration school. Our vision statement affirms a commitment to continue proactive roles in promoting high standards in higher education both in the national and international arenas. Through ongoing review and the development of new paradigms of the best practice, the University continues to improve teaching and learning quality, especially highlighting the project-based, inquiry model throughout the University. All the programs are continuously enriched and informed by the rapid transfer of new knowledge used in ongoing curriculum improvements. To produce graduates of international standing, where expertise is in high demand and whose contributions and practice are of the highest caliber and integrity, the University instills in students at all levels the six “smarts”:

The University has pledged to fulfill the four critical missions:
- Well-qualified students: The University is to produce students who can potentially achieve academic excellence and be ethical and moral. The students are expected to be a model for a healthy and peaceful society.
- Research excellence: Applied research is being focused and developed. This includes the communication of research outcomes to the community resulting in economic and social development.
- Academic services: Activities are varied to serve the society in terms of wisdom and learning appropriately. This will require a proactive role for the University to properly approach each community and be a reliable hub of knowledge.
- Arts and culture conservation: The University will play roles in arts and culture conservation, including Thai unique tradition.
Naresuan University becomes a research-based university before 2017. Naresuan University, a government university accredited by the Office of the Commission on Higher Education, Ministry of Education, is a comprehensive university comprising 16 faculties, three schools, one college, and one institute. They are clustered into the Health Sciences Cluster, the Science and Technology Cluster, and the Social Sciences Cluster. A wide range of degree programs, offered at all levels of studies, are delivered to meet the increasing demands of prospective students who not only need to be well-equipped with the academic knowledge but also current issues and global trends in order to cope well with the challenges of the ASEAN Economic Community and be outstandingly qualified graduates who are in demand in the labor market.
Teaching quality and standards of several academic programs are developed with valuable inputs from visiting professors and international researchers/ staff who spend sabbaticals/work full-time at the university. This is made possible by extensive collaboration with overseas partners through various activities to assure that students will be accommodated in a new learning environment and in a remarkably research-oriented venue where quality has never been compromised.
