The Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya is a higher education institution with a public service commitment to understanding music as a multidimensional phenomenon. The Erasmus aims to achieve a dynamizing role in the Catalan musical and cultural scene.
The School first opened its doors in 2001 in Barcelona. Today, with over 700 students from 28 countries studying at degree or post-degree level, the Esmuc offers an inspiring environment to develop as a musician and is fast becoming an international benchmark for its training excellence. The school facilities help towards the quality of education that this institution wishes to offer.
For this reason, they are at the disposal of students and, in general, the entire educational community. Our School has been a pioneer in imparting the title of music with the European Higher Education Area criteria. This integration of higher artistic education in the EHEA makes it possible to overcome the distinction between the university and non-university higher qualifications and, at the same time, reinforce the exchange and circulation strategies of students and teachers in Europe.
AQU is a public entity whose mission is to guarantee the quality of higher education following European standards. Its activity is developed through analysis, evaluation, and accreditation, in which the educational community and social agents are involved, with a perspective oriented towards innovation. Since 2012, and by order of the Department of Education, AQU Catalunya is the body responsible for the verification, monitoring, modification, and accreditation of higher artistic education.
The purpose of the Foundation is to manage, promote, and support the teaching of the Bachelor degree and that of the School itself. The Board of Patrons of the Foundation is made up of representatives from the Departments of Education, Culture and Economics and Knowledge, and members of L'Auditori and Orchestra Consortium, the Municipal Institute of Education of Barcelona (Institut Municipal d'Educació de Barcelona - IMEB), the Catalan Board of Music and the Gran Teatre del Liceu, amongst others.
