Assumption College, a Catholic institution sponsored by the Augustinians of the Assumption and rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition, strives to form graduates known for critical intelligence, thoughtful citizenship, and compassionate service. We pursue these ambitious goals through a curriculum grounded in the liberal arts and extending to the domain of professional studies. Enlivened by the Catholic affirmation of the harmony of faith and reason, we aim to transform the minds and hearts of students by the pursuit of the truth. Assumption favors diversity, and ecumenically welcomes all who share its goals.
Our students are exposed to various disciplines that expand their minds and enhance their critical thinking skills as they consider new ideas, new ways of looking at the world, and new ways of questioning. Faculty members create an academically stimulating environment that challenges students to achieve their full potential as they think through their values and life. Simultaneously, the skills students learn at Assumption also prepare them for successful and rewarding careers.
In the Assumpionist tradition, we encourage intellectual, social, and personal growth. We take religion and faith seriously as an integral part of the human experience. We explore questions that get to the deepest desires of the human heart and recognize the role of faith and reason in searching for the truth. Our students encounter ideas that have contributed to the formation of a Christian outlook on the world that reflects the type of education envisioned by Fr. Emmanuel d'Alzon, the founder of the Assumptionists. Whatever a student's faith, we believe that the Assumption experience provides opportunities for personal spiritual growth and a set of values that will encourage students to use their knowledge in service to others. It is an atmosphere that is intellectually challenging, personally rewarding, and spiritually fulfilling.
When you choose Assumption, you can count on receiving personal attention from kind, friendly people throughout the community. Faculty, administrators, staff, religious, and students all work together to ensure that everyone is valued and supported. The Assumption is small enough that people know students as individuals and large enough for students to find diverse opportunities. Experiences inside and outside the classroom help shape a student's "personal compass" and encourage intellectual, social, and personal growth.
IT&MS offers a wide range of technical services and support to the campus's students, faculty, and staff. With four computer labs, eight computerized classrooms, and a broadcast-quality media center, Assumption students are provided with industry-leading tools and facilities to encourage advanced learning. Classroom technology is updated annually with the latest instructional technology services.
The Information Technology Center was completed in 2002 as an addition to the Fuller academic building. The IT Center houses the IT staff, labs, and classrooms for collaborative projects, multi-media, foreign language work, and access to specialized application software. The Helpdesk (aka The Hub) is also located on the first floor of the IT Center. The DiPasquale Media Center, built-in 1977, provides audio/visual services to the Assumption College community. The Media Center houses media staff, classrooms, studios, and equipment necessary for the campus, classroom, and student productions. Services include video duplicating, support for the Avid ISIS TV production software, campus cable TV and electronic bulletin board, and AV support for campus events.
Assumption College's Student Development & Counseling Center is an on-campus resource that supports student growth and development as they meet the challenges and choices faced throughout their college years. The staff provides confidential personal assessment, which is covered by the student's tuition.
College is a time of change and often a time of many firsts. They are becoming independent, meeting new people, living in a new environment, managing time effectively, and making decisions about the future, and dealing with the demands of academic life. While these changes are exciting, the transition may not always be smooth.
As members of the Student Development & Counseling Center Staff, we seek to support the mission of the College and that of the Department of Student Affairs. We promote the development and self-actualization of our students through counseling and educational programming. Through personal counseling and educational programming on mental health issues, we embrace the Assumptionist goal of fostering each student's full potential.
Assumption College attracts young people who are curious about learning new things and excited by the world of possibilities before them. Through a traditional liberal arts curriculum with business, sciences, and professional programs, Assumption students explore new ideas, make connections across disciplines, and push themselves to achieve more than they ever thought possible.
With 41 majors and 48 minors, academic opportunities are vast, and Assumption's professors go above and beyond – in and out of the classroom – to challenge and support students and encourage them to let their light shine. The educational experience is grounded in the Catholic intellectual tradition, which cultivates both the intellect and personal values. The academic atmosphere is marked by individual attention and the quest for personal excellence.
Students gain essential professional experience through our internship program and independent research projects. Ninety-eight percent of Class of 2015 graduates were employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation.
Assumption College is located on 185 acres in a beautiful, residential neighborhood, just minutes from downtown Worcester, Massachusetts, New England's second-largest city. This location offers numerous advantages, including the opportunity for internships in virtually any field.
Construction is now complete on the Tsotsis Family Academic Center, a 60,000-square-foot state-of-the-art academic building that contains 13 high-tech, flexible classrooms, seminar rooms, common study spaces, a 400-seat performance hall, a rehearsal room, a multi-purpose space, faculty offices for the Assumption Core Texts and Enduring Questions Program, the Business Studies Department, the Honors Program, the Center for Teaching Excellence, and a new Center for the Study of Ethics.
More than half a million dollars in renovations were recently completed in Taylor Dining Hall, the primary dining facility on campus. It offers students an array of meal options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
