The Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law. With the emerging trends in legal education, it has become increasingly necessary to develop a law university in Pakistan that imparts legal education at par with the leading universities of the world and following international standards. In particular, as an aftermath of the lawyer's movement, and the growing independence of the judiciary in Pakistan, training of professional lawyers has become critical. Across the globe, legal education has markedly evolved in recent years, and it appears that Pakistani law schools are significantly lagging in legal scholarship, research, and academics.
It is therefore the need of the hour to set up a state-of-the-art institution that would revolutionize legal education in Pakistan. It is in this backdrop that the first law university of Pakistan, under the auspicious leadership of the Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan who is also the Chancellor of the University of Karachi, has been established by the Govt, of Sindh through the enactment of Shaheed Zulfiqar AH Bhutto University of Law Karachi Act, 2012.
The Shaheed Zulfiqar AH Bhutto University of Law, as is evident, has been named after the dedicated democrat and International level political leader of Pakistan, Shaheed Zulfiqar AH Bhutto. It is pertinent to mention that Mr. Bhutto was himself a leading lawyer who qualified as a Barrister from Lincoln's Inn, London. He was also visiting Professor of Law at S.M. Law College, Karachi. It is hoped that this university will provide world-class legal education to the people of Sindh and the rest of Pakistan following the wishes of Shaheed Bhutto.
The University, in addition to supervising, constituent, and affiliated colleges, will itself simultaneously offer the following program BA.LL.B Degree Program after Completion of 5Years BA.LL.B (Hons.) Degree shall be an award, LL.M, Ph.D., LL.D.
The University will also run diploma and certificate courses in various fields of law and allied specialties. The faculty will consist of retired judges, senior lawyers, and foreign-educated young barristers. The faculty will consist of both full-time and visiting members, thus ensuring the right balance between practice and academia for the benefit of students. The recruitment of faculty will be purely on merit, and those with the highest academic caliber and integrity will be recruited.
To achieve such high standards in teaching, learning, and research that it would soon be comparable to the world-renowned academic institutions and learning should be synchronized with the employer need so that we achieve our ultimate goal of employing our outgoing students. We aspire to prepare lawyers to serve their clients, the justice system, and the public with a high level of accomplishment and a commitment to the highest ideals of the legal profession. We aspire to prepare the business graduates to serve the Industry and the Country with the highest level of professionalism, ethics, and sincerity.
Become a globally recognized seat of higher education and research extending the frontiers of knowledge and contributing significantly to mankind. The University becomes a nursery for employment in all faculties and should be the first choice for the employer.
