The University Board is the University of Oslo's highest decision-making body. The Board has 11 members and consists of a chairperson, three members elected from among the employees with teaching and research positions, one member elected from among the technical and administrative staff, two members elected from the student body, and four external members. The Rector is the chairperson.
UiO is Norway's oldest institution for research and higher education, with 28,000 students and 6,000 employees. UiO celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2011. UiO has eight faculties, two museums, and several centers. Also, UiO has 10 Norwegian Centres of Excellence.
The University of Oslo has played a pivotal role in many of Norway's significant changes over the last 200 years. In connection with our bicentennial in 2011, we published stories about the University's contributions to society.
