Established in 2001, the Malta College of Arts, Science, and Technology is the country's leading vocational education and training institution. Through the three Colleges, namely Foundation, Technical and University Colleges, and six Institutes in Malta and the Gozo Campus, MCAST offers 180 full-time and over 300 part-time vocational courses, ranging from certificate to Master's degrees (MQF Level 1 to Level 7). To provide universally accessible vocational and professional education and training with an international dimension, responsive to the needs of the individual and the economy. We collaborate with the leading industry players to give you hands-on training in the latest best practices and technologies. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and put what you learn in the classroom to practice in our workshops, laboratories, and real work settings, through placements and apprenticeships. Our ultimate goal is to give you the skills and experiences required to help you achieve the thriving career you are aspiring for.
The six MCAST Institutes namely the Institute of Applied Sciences, the Institute for the Creative Arts, the Institute of Engineering and Transport, the Institute of Business Management and Commerce, the Institute of Community Services, the Institute of Information and Communication Technology and the Gozo Campus provide all the technical and professional expertise towards the delivery of the programs at MCAST and maintain the aim of driving forward all the areas of study under their respective responsibility. This corporate structure enables each College to create focused strategies that address the specific needs of students at each level while maintaining a healthy dialogue with all interested stakeholders in order to provide the best programs for the needs of the local economy and society.
MCAST's relationship with industry stimulates the College's success – its programs are flexible, relevant, and responsive to the aspirations of the students and the needs of industries continually evolving to meet the challenges of a changing global economy. The College supports small and medium-sized enterprises through a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses work-based learning through the Apprenticeships Programme, the various entrepreneurship initiatives, and through MG2i (MCAST commercial arm) services whereby it provides training courses tailor-made to their needs. The College is focusing on increasing the portfolio of MG2i by developing new programs in Life Long Learning, accrediting new programs at different levels, including Masters, and introducing more professional development programs. It is working on the internationalization of MG2i through the Training and Professional Development Programmes and joint-venture opportunities in different vocational areas.
The Technical College provides further study programs at MQF/EQF Level 4 in closer collaboration with industry. The Advanced Diplomas on offer prepare students with the right knowledge, skills, and competences in order to take up technical positions within the industry or progress to the University College should they prefer to do so. Level 4 programs incorporate a wide range of apprenticeships in various fields of studies, thus enabling the students also to gain practical work experience while studying. The Technical College is striving to establish a more international dimension to its programs by establishing links with various foreign vocational colleges.
The University College caters to higher education programs and vocational degrees at MQF/ EQF Levels 5, 6, and 7 while also working in close collaboration with the industry to provide professionals that are academically prepared and practically trained to satisfy the needs of the local industry. It is implementing cross-curricular course structure, adopting an internationalization strategy, reaching out towards industry and spearheading Applied Research through the Centre for Energy and the Environment, the Centre for Water Research, the Centre for Assisted Living Engineering and the Centre for Vocational Education Research.
