Here at GUST, our students are our main priority and focus, and our goal is to produce well-rounded individuals with the knowhow and skills to succeed in tomorrow's world independently. This is done by creating a solid foundation, employing experienced faculty, nurturing an active student life housed in an exceptional campus, offering courses that are internationally recognized and accredited, and allowing students to expand their horizons by studying abroad.
At GUST, you will work along with ide an approachable, collaborative team whose sole focus is on developing you as a business leader. You will be given insightful information and asked to think critically at a higher level to attain the edge that will propel you and your career further. Each year, GUST offers its students the opportunity to apply for summer scholarships to enrich their academic experience through international study. These include summer scholarships at the University of Missouri Saint-Louis and George Washington University. Students may choose the 2+2 option, i.e., study their first two years at GUST, and the last two at UMSL.
Teaching staff at GUST all come from strong academic backgrounds, and many have practical, real-world experience that they actively use to provide students with a multi-dimensional educational experience. The degree accreditation is one of only 26 outside the United States, and it is the only Computer Science program in Kuwait to achieve the International Seal of Quality. Our College of Business earned the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business-International (AACSB) for all of its undergraduate programs and our MBA from the oldest and largest professional business accrediting agency in the world. This award places GUST's business program among the top five percent of business programs worldwide.
The most recent accolade of quality was officially announced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings in which GUST was in the top 100 Arab Region Universities. There are 971 universities and colleges in the Arab Region. This is an excellent accomplishment as GUST is the first-ever private University from Kuwait to make a list. All of these acknowledgments of quality are in addition to the Commission on English Language Accreditation (CFA) for the English program that we already possess.
Of course, we are not resting on our past achievements, plans for additional international professional accreditations for Math, Mass Communications, and Public Relations are progressing. None of this would have been possible without the visionary guidance of our Board of Trustees (BOT), who established the quality expectations for GUST at its founding some 15 years ago. The BOT has been willing to back up the vision of world-class education in Kuwait with support and the resources to achieve these goals in record time. To the Founding Board and the Current Board of Trustees at GUST: all associated with GUST are eternally grateful.
The faculty is supported by an energetic and creative staff dedicated to fulfilling their GUST mission of providing a "Student First" and "GUST Family" atmosphere. They are here to assist in solving student issues to make a comfortable and fun learning environment.
Like all thriving organizations, GUST is continually growing and pushing the envelope of change. The GUST Board of Trustees has approved a KD22 million building plan that includes a new classroom building, a new laboratory building, and a new multilevel parking garage. We are pushing to expand our university table with programs in engineering, medical administration, and general studies degrees at the undergraduate level and programs in Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, MIS Communications, Education, and English at the graduate level.
The Department of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) oversees the implementation of the University's strategy and facilitates its translation into measurable objectives deployed across the different units at GUST. We aspire to enable GUST to standardize, benchmark effectively, and continuously improve all academic and administrative functions, promote enterprise innovation, and enhance the quality of education and services at GUST up to the highest international standards. The Department of Institutional Effectiveness manages two offices: the Office of Quality Assurance and Performance Assessment (QAO) and the Office of Institutional Research and Accreditation (IRO). The QAO functions primarily to promote a culture of quality across the University and to maintain the necessary mechanisms that support effective performance management. The IRO supports data-informed decision making that enables institutional improvement and enhanced student learning.
The Research and Development Office (RDO) is responsible for facilitating the research programs and development by working with a broad range of units and departments across the University. The RDO also provides the necessary infrastructure which supports the faculty members' and students' efforts and upholds the standards which represent the university's principles and values. The Gulf University of Science and Technology (GUST) established the American-style accredited degree-granting University by developing and maintaining a "students come first" attitude. By providing a positive and creative work environment that respects diversity, new ideas and hard work GUST has a complete understanding that education is accomplished through learning both in and out of the classroom. As a result, GUST seeks to graduate people of competence and character who can lead the way for meaningful change in our world. Together with the students, faculty, and staff, the Office of Student Life (OSL) strives to unite learning and living to adapt to the rapid changes of our 21st-century environment.
In the mid-1990s, a group of distinguished Kuwaiti academicians and businessmen realized the vital importance of establishing a modern university in Kuwait equal in quality to other prestigious universities abroad and to serve the ever-increasing educational demands of the local society and the Gulf region. Its primary purpose was to prepare generations of young leaders and professionals for the demands of a new global technological era. In January 1997, Kuwaiti Academic Group, comprised of 41 faculty members from Kuwait University, was established to lay the foundation for the proposed "University of the Future." Their studies culminated in the vision of "Gulf University for Science and Technology" (GUST).
