At the beginning of 1981, some UNAIR and ITS lecturers and several community leaders joined the Pawiyatan Gita Patria Foundation to dedicate themselves to education by establishing a university. When it comes to choosing a university name is selected the name NAROTAMA. This choice is based on the background of NAROTAMA's historical personality associated with the spirit of devotion to the State and his soul as a figure who supports, fosters, and raises AIRLANGGA. Implicit in selecting names is that the newly established university's wishes, namely UNIVERSITY NAROTAMA, can memdampingi and implement the ideas and expectations of Airlangga University that already exists. The writing "NAROTAMA Existence, Struggle, and History" is the result of Prof.'s study. Dr. Aminuddin Kasdi, in the framework of Dies Natalis / Lustrum IV Narotama University, maybe a blessing for the public to understand the character of Narotama and become the inspiration and encouragement for all Civitas Akademika and Alumni Narotama University Surabaya.
