Up to December 2011, Universitas Padjadjaran has 41.412 students: 3.6161 Master's students, 1.792 Doctoral degree students, 1.147 Specialist program students, 1.482 Profesi students, 28.295 Undergraduate degree, 76 Diploma IV students, and 5.004 Diploma III students.
From that number, 11.024 students enter the university in the 2012/2013 academic year, including 490 Doctoral degree students, 1.430 Master's students, 305 Specialist program students, 6.740 undergraduate students, 40 Diploma IV students, and 1.592 Diploma III students.
Universitas Padjadjaran has been graduating 10.434 alumni in 2011/2012, including 224 Doctoral degree alumni, 1.089 Master's alumni, 174 Specialist program alumni, 776 Profesi alumni, 5.808 Undergraduate alumni, 83 Diploma IV students, and 2.280 Diploma III students. By far, the total amount of Universitas Padjadjaran alumni nowadays is 192.867 alumni.
The name "Padjadjaran" is taken from the name of the Kingdom of Sunda, which Padjadjaran kingdom led by King Siliwangi or King Dewantaprana Maharaja Sri BadugaPakuanPadjadjaran (1473-1513 AD). This name is the name of the most famous and remembered by the people of West Java, because of the famous figure among kings in tatarSunda.
At the time of its establishment, Unpad consists of 4 faculties:
- Faculty of Law and Knowledge Society
- Faculty of Economics (both originated from the Freedom Foundation at the University of Bandung)
- the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (Guidance and Counseling, an incarnation of PTPG in Bandung)
- the Faculty of Medicine
Within six years, Unpad has increased another eight faculties; there are Faculty of Social and Political (October 13, 1958, now FISIP), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (Faculty, November 1, 1958), the Faculty of Letters (November 1, 1958, is now the Faculty Cultural Studies), Faculty of Agriculture (Agriculture Faculty, November 1, 1959), the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG, November 1, 1959), Faculty Publication (September 18, 1960, is now the Communication Faculty), Faculty of Psychology (FPSI, September 1, 1961), and the Faculty of Animal Husbandry (Fapet, July 27, 1963).
In 2005, Unpad opened another three faculty there are Faculty of Nursing (FIK, June 8, 2005), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK, July 7, 2005), and Faculty of Agricultural Industrial Engineering (FTIP, September 13, 2005).
Over two years later, Unpad improves the status of two majors in Mathematics, and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Pharmacy Department of Pharmacy became (October 17, 2006), as well as a Faculty of Engineering, Department of Earth Sciences Geology (FTG, December 12, 2007).
To improve the university's performance, on September 7, 1982, Unpad opened the Faculty of Graduate. This faculty organizes educational levels of S-2 (Masters Program) and S-3 (Doctoral program). In further developments, the Faculty of Graduate transferred to Graduate Program. Unpad also organizes an educational Diploma Program (S-0) for some fields of science to meet the middle-skilled experts.
