Founded in 1956, HKBU has come a long way from its days as a post-secondary college. Becoming a publicly-funded tertiary institution in 1983 to develop its strengths further, and in 1994, HKBU proudly earned its university status. Today, together with our students, faculty, and staff members, we continue to strive for excellence and dedicate our efforts towards becoming the region’s premier liberal arts university that delivers academic excellence, innovation, and social progress.
Through a holistic approach to education, we are committed to unlocking students’ creativity, equipping them with the knowledge, and nurturing them with desired attributes necessary in today’s globalized world. We also have a comprehensive international learning program in place to broaden their horizons and global outlook.
In 1956, Hong Kong Baptist College was founded by the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong as a post-secondary college committed to providing a whole-person education. In 1983, Hong Kong Baptist College became a fully-funded public tertiary institution. It gained university status in 1994 and was renamed Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).
Today HKBU encompasses eight Faculties/Schools offering a range of undergraduate programs, associate degrees, and higher diploma programs as well as taught postgraduate programs and postgraduate research programs leading to the award of master and doctoral degrees. It prides itself on its dual focus on teaching and research and encourages service to society among its staff and students. Over the years, HKBU has remained committed to academic excellence and the development of the whole person and has gained a reputation as one of Asia’s finest institutions of higher learning.

We aim to produce world-class research in selected research clusters and to solve problems for and with society using close connections between HKBU researchers and external stakeholders.
HKBU offers full-time integrated undergraduate, postgraduate programs leading to master or doctoral degrees with the aim of nurturing students’ all-round development through a unique and enriching learning experience.
