    The University of Zadar's mission is based on the Act on Science and Higher Education, which prescribes scientific, educational, artistic, and developmental policies to all universities. The University of Zadar shall especially promote the aspects of the policies that represent a strategic interest to the Zadar region. The policies will be reflected in the organization and the conduct of research and artistic work, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral studies. The University shall systematically improve its organizational framework, coordinated work among its constituents, and promote a reasonable use of human and material resources. The University shall ensure the student and teaching staff mobility (among departments and universities), the development of multidisciplinary studies and cooperation among institutions; it shall monitor the quality and the competitiveness of educational, artistic, scientific, and professional work. With its status of intellectual authority and the most prominent institution in the town and region, and given the unique diversity of its surroundings, the University shall lead the initiation of integrative and innovative projects essential to the University, town, region, and the Republic of Croatia.
    The University of Zadar offers a wide range of study programs at undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels, along with two studies conducted as an integrated undergraduate and graduate study. Today, the University of Zadar is the largest integrated University in the Republic of Croatia, which includes 25 university departments: English Department, Department of Archaeology, Department of Classical Philology, Department of Croatian and Slavic Studies, Department of Ecology, Agronomy and Aquaculture, Department of Economics, Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Department of French and Iberoromance Studies, Department of Geography, Department of German Studies, Department of Health Studies, Department of History, Department of the History of Art, Department of Italian Studies, Department of Library and Information Sciences, Department of Linguistics, Department of Pedagogy, Department of Philosophy, Department of Psychology, Department of Sociology, Department of Teachers' and Preschool Teachers' Education, Department of Teacher's Studies in Gospić, Department of Traffic and Maritime Studies, Department of Tourism and Communication Sciences, Department of Theology.
    Study programs are structured according to the Bologna Process and the Act on Science and Higher Education principles, which also included the acceptance of a unique three-cycle study system (undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate specialist and doctoral studies) and the introduction of the ECTS credit system. The proposed study programs of the University of Zadar had passed the evaluation process by the National Committee for Higher Education. They obtained a permit from the Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Sports in June 2005. Accordingly, the University initiated the 1st year of 30 reformed undergraduate studies in the 2005-2006 academic year, and the 1st year of 35 reformed graduate studies in the 2008-2009 academic year.Thirty-one undergraduate studies, 41 graduate studies, two integrated undergraduate and graduate studies and five doctoral studies are being performed in the 2014-2015 academic year.
    Citizens of the European Union, foreign citizens with permanent residence in the Republic of Croatia and persons without the citizenship with permanent residence in the Republic of Croatia, who enroll in the first year of an undergraduate or integrated study at a public higher education institution, are entitled to enrolment within the quota for Croatian citizens, with full scholarship support from the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Sports.
    Citizens of the European Union, foreign citizens with permanent residence in the Republic of Croatia and persons without citizenship with permanent residence in the Republic of Croatia, enroll within the enrolment quota and pay the full scholarship amount.
    The University of Zadar will be research-oriented. Its development will be based on the reaffirmation of a long academic tradition and the promotion of its unique natural setting as well as its intellectual and cultural heritage. A special effort will be put into the development of scientific and teaching activities in natural sciences, engineering, biotechnology, and biomedical sciences, which are less present at the University of Zadar but are closely connected to economic development.
    Since 2010, the bookstore Citadela operates within the University premises. All University publications, but also the publications of various Croatian and foreign publishers used for scientific research and classes, are available in the bookstore. Besides, the visitors can buy different souvenirs with motifs of the University of Zadar, as well as the products of the Baštica estate.
    The University of Zadar cooperates with numerous Croatian and foreign institutions and academic associations, through membership in international organizations and communities, and cooperative contracts with other universities.
    The University actively encourages the participation of its units in international competitive projects incoming and outgoing mobility of students, academics and academic administration joint studies with foreign universities contacts and encounters with domestic and foreign representatives of the academic, political and economic communities (diplomats, rectors, representatives of international organizations and government, representatives of religious institutions, etc. ).
    Special attention is given to the cooperation with local and regional communities through preparation and execution of joint projects, participation in the creation of strategic development planning documents, the encouragement of the civil society development, organizing various activities to popularise science, encourage research and sustainable regard for cultural and natural heritage.
    Owing to the diligent and responsible work of its staff and students, the University of Zadar performs scientific, teaching, and professional work, grows and progresses each day and contributes to general development.
