About Me

  1. The Woodland Happy Valley Pre-School follows the UK National Curriculum Early Years Foundation Stage and has a significant English and Mandarin component. Accredited by The Pre-School Learning Alliance (London), the school employs traditional teaching methods. Like all Woodland Pre-Schools, we aim to provide the very highest quality international pre-school education. classes are offered at our school: Stepping Stones is for children aged 2 years 4 months of age and above and will prepare them for our pre-school classes. The classes help children become increasingly independent of their accompanying adults, develop classroom routines, learn to positively interact with others, and develop their concentration skills. Children usually attend for one term before graduating from our pre-school classes. The pre-school curriculum is designed for children aged 2½ to 5 years who are ready for the challenges of pre-school. Children don't need to have attended our Stepping Stones classes before entry to pre-school. However, children who have been more familiar with the staff, surroundings, and routines, which lead to a faster, less stressful transition into the pre-school program. You are also welcome to attend for the whole day. The National Curriculum sets out a clear and full entitlement to learning for all pupils up to the age of sixteen. It determines the content of what will be taught and sets attainment targets for learning. It also determines how performance will be assessed and reported. Each area of learning and development has a set of related Early Learning Goals. Most children will achieve all the goals. By the end of the Foundation Stage, just before entering primary school, some will have progressed beyond them. As the children prepare to move up and on to Primary School, the Prep for Primary Club focuses on each child’s strengths and weaknesses, building on the skills and knowledge they have gained in the morning program. Amongst other benefits, this program emphasizes language, literacy, and mathematics as well as prepares children mentally, emotionally, and physically for full-day school. Extra-curricular activities are a fun way to bring out a hidden talent or interest, learn new skills and make new friends. With an abundant variety of over 25 clubs available, your child can enjoy something different each day and have a fulfilling experience at any one of our schools. Please visit our Clubs and Under 3's page for more details.
  2. Trinity Valley was founded in 1959. Trinity Valley School has four main objectives for its students: fine scholarship with its fulfillment at college, broad, constructive interests, intelligent citizenship, and spiritual and moral development, which promotes lasting values. Trinity Valley School seeks students of above-average to superior ability who will contribute to the student body's diversity and enrich the school community's environment. New students are accepted from kindergarten through 12th grade. At Trinity Valley, we encourage intellectual curiosity because we believe that quality recognition is more critical than accumulating facts. The school seeks to develop mastery of ideas, as well as cleverness, and a capacity for understanding as well as for learning. TVS is devoted to building a foundation for a lifetime love of learning. Trinity Valley School supports, encourages, and fosters that gift in each child. At TVS, we believe our students are our future and our most precious resource. The Trinity Valley academic program provides an environment that supports and nurtures a love of learning. The liberal arts are the foundation of a Trinity Valley School education. The ultimate goal is for our students to anticipate and respond effectively to the uncertainties of a rapidly changing technological, social, political, and economic world. To prepare our students for life, we understand that they need a well-developed set of skills and knowledge that allows them to be productive global citizens in the world they will help shape. The curriculum is designed for students to assume greater responsibility for exploring topics independently. These experiences promote growth inform questions, research, make judgments, and solve problems, thereby establishing a foundation of expanded intellectual curiosity and interest in learning. At Trinity Valley School, we believe that what happens outside of the classroom can be just as important as in the traditional academic setting. Consequently, there are myriad opportunities for students to become immersed in the school's life in so many ways. Of note: Our students are involved in dozens of community service opportunities throughout Fort Worth and community and beyond, in addition to playing on any number of the seventy athletic teams at TVs. Students perform, built, and design the set or work the lights in any number of our theater performances, kindergarten through grade twelve. They participate in any number of trips through the Trojan Outdoor Experience and the Global Initiatives program They may join any one of the forty clubs in the upper school, or they may decide to create and form their own, with the help of a faculty sponsor Student government is an integral part of school life, and many students thrive through this engagement Students also serve as tour guides and admission hosts and are an integral part of our admissions process There are countless ways to improve student learning. TVS makes a commitment to international education as part of its curriculum to give students multiple opportunities to interact and collaborate with people worldwide. Students think critically about world events and discuss these reflections and experiences with each other and abroad. We believe that these cross-cultural contacts will help our students become better problem-solvers and communicators. They will understand why it is essential to treat all humans with dignity. These traits will help them become conscientious leaders now and in the future. Engaged learners need to enjoy what they are studying. The Global Education Program takes advantage of this generation's penchant for connectivity and technology to promote multi-cultural interactions. Innovative learning strategies such as live online discussions, international video exchanges, and blogging excite our students about the future and show them how they can be respectful, open-minded leaders online and in their communities. This Program is part of the overall TVS Mission to offer cognitive and experiential learning experiences that will prepare our students for college, the workforce, and daily life in an ever-changing, tightly connected world. 3. The Miami Valley School, as we know it on Denise Drive, started in 1964 after nearly a decade on Munger Road, then known as the "Marti School." VMS' history is rich with teachers and programs that empower passionately inquisitive students to make a difference in the world. Political leaders, Broadway performers, nationally-recognized comedians, award-winning actors, entrepreneurs, global thinkers, CEOs, scientists, industry leaders… to name a few. At The Miami Valley School, we are independent in our teaching and learning and thinking and doing. For 50 years, our students have enjoyed the freedom to explore their world in a community that encourages them to discover how to express themselves in it. Although we adhere to a demanding scholarship built on a foundation of integrity and grit, teachers here do more than prepare students to score well on a standardized test someday. They empower students to live life to the fullest every day, discover their true passion and purpose, and then pursue it with emotional and intellectual rigor responsibly. The Miami Valley School challenges young people of promise to become self-sustaining learners and compassionate global citizens. For half a century, VMS has provided a unique learning option for families in the Dayton, Ohio community. Today, VMS is refining a truly differentiated educational opportunity as it becomes a nationally recognized leader in academically rigorous, experience-based learning. At The Miami Valley School, our overarching goal is to give all of our students the tools to become self-sustaining and self-evolving learners, capable of successfully navigating their future in a time of rapid global change, and confident in challenging themselves to grow personally, ethically, professionally, socially, and emotionally throughout their lives. They exhibit the tenacity and grit of the new American entrepreneur: the desire to face challenges, take advantage of opportunities, understand the nature of positive risk-taking, and manage ambiguity with the knowledge that they have the tools and personal resilience to deal with both success and failure. We intentionally practice design thinking strategies in the classroom and in the process of leading the school to ensure that our pursuit of learning always remains open to the possibilities of the next great idea. We acknowledge that every student learns differently, and we aspire to create a program where instruction is differentiated for our students every day. Our lofty learning goals are achieved through a bold, intentional framework that sets The Miami Valley School apart. The Miami Valley School Immersion Method is based on the knowledge that learning is rooted in direct experience, which leads to engagement and the discovery of passion by each student. Everything we do at The Miami Valley School is carefully sculpted to create a community of student and adult learners supported in pursuing their passions. Students and teachers will increasingly collaborate as co-learners in a fluid, dynamic learning-centric relationship. We recognize that this kind of learning, for both children and adults, comes at a cost…the cost of being wrong, of taking a risk, testing new ideas, and failing. We embrace the role of risk and failure in the learning process for both students and adults and are dedicated to balancing the lessons of success and failure in our life pursuits. While academic excellence is best achieved through a balanced exposure to the arts, humanities, science, and physical wellness, we know that the most rapid changes taking place in the world around us are in science, technology, and engineering. Although we place no greater weight on exposing our students to the applied sciences, we recognize that these disciplines will evolve most rapidly in the next ten years. VMS is dedicated to creating a science, technology, engineering, and math program that leverages partnerships and internships in the Dayton community and beyond to ensure that our students are fully prepared to participate in learning and professional opportunities in these rapidly evolving fields. Youth is a time to find and grow our roots, sense of self, and the foundation upon which to build a happy and healthy life approach. By forming strong personal relationships and creating curricular and extracurricular opportunities for students to become active participants and leaders in their school community, students at The Miami Valley School learn to celebrate their individuality and the culture of something larger than themselves. Because teachers share a close learning relationship with students ranging from ages 3-18, we can build a unique learning experience progression. We construct that experience and, in fact, our school's framework around unifying interdisciplinary themes that transcend traditional boundaries of subject or grade level. Our vision of the future at The Miami Valley School is profound and challenging. It requires the sustaining support and focused resources of the entire VMS community. We hire teachers who embrace the defining ethos of The Miami Valley School Immersion Method, give our faculty the professional development and assessment resources to implement this vision for our students, and support them as they evolve the curriculum to stay current with the changes in our world. Our use and development of physical space and the time we spend at school must amplify our learning goals, not constrain them. Financial resources must be prioritized, and a culture of philanthropy advanced to achieve our desired results. Perhaps most importantly, the collegial connections that make our school happy, productive, and forward-looking will break down what separates us...across grade level, division, subject, student, teacher, parent, community...and build up what unites us: implementation of our collective vision. 7. Shenandoah Valley Academy, established in 1908, exists to provide a distinctly Seventh-day Adventist college preparatory program through experiences to produce disciples of Jesus. They are compassionate citizens prepared for college and careers. Graduating Adventist Christians who will: Serve Christ Value Knowledge Accept a Life of Service We are all created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). For this reason, the primary purpose of Shenandoah Valley Academy is to develop Creator-like powers in our students that are God-given to all humans: creativity, individuality, and the ability to think, to choose, and to do. The object of education at Shenandoah Valley Academy is to develop these powers in our students to think and act as individuals, not mere reflectors of someone else's thoughts and actions. We deeply value the environment necessary to achieve this and recognize that it must be protected and nurtured to meet our objectives. Accordingly, we select and welcome students, faculty, and staff who thrive in a family where trust is legally and safely embedded in Christian love and relationships. We are convinced that students benefit and develop best when trusted; they want to be treated with confidence and respect, which is their right. As bonds of love grow with Jesus Christ and within the school family (John 15:12), students will live the Christian life – not merely because of rules but also on relationships that are too important to risk damaging. To help students develop into genuine thinkers, we highly value academic rigor and discipline and place value on becoming a balanced person through athletics, music, art, culture, and service involvement for the welfare of others. We pledge to have sufficient work and justified financial aid to assist any Seventh-day Adventist applicant who truly wants to benefit from quality education and an Adventist Christian lifestyle by attending Shenandoah Valley Academy. We pledge to operate a quality school where students will be spiritually, physically, and socially safe and experience mental stimulation and growth from a responsive and caring faculty and staff. The object of education at Shenandoah Valley Academy is developing students' creativity, individuality, and the power to think, choose and do. In meeting our seven objectives, students will learn to think and act as individuals—not mere reflectors of someone else's thoughts and actions. Spirituality: Shenandoah students will develop a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. In everything we do, we endeavor to create the best possible environment for our students and staff to strengthen their love for Jesus Christ. We expect to provide this environment in the classrooms, at work, at play, and in our worship time. Relationships: Shenandoah students will develop strong Christian relationships that will guide their behavior. We believe relationships are the most important determinants of behavior. As we develop loving relationships with Jesus and each other, what we do and say will guide our behavior. Unique relationships are formed between our students and their Campus Parents that are the basis for trust and privileges. "Rules without relationships lead to rebellion." Academics: Shenandoah students will be recognized for academic excellence. We expect our students to be serious students who accept academic rigor and discipline's struggles and rewards. We assist both in and out of the classrooms for challenged and gifted students to achieve their objectives. Work Ethics: Shenandoah students will learn the value, rewards, and dignity of work. Students are required to participate in our work/study program. We provide each student with a job description, work expectations, job performance evaluations, and compensation based on performance. Character Development: Shenandoah students will progress in developing their Christian character. Character development includes developing Christian life-skills that enable students to think, to choose, and to act as responsible citizens in their community. This requires intentional analysis and a willingness to hold others and us accountable. Health and Wellness: Shenandoah students will develop an awareness and lifestyle to provide ongoing health and wellness. Students will be given health risk assessments, training, and resources to follow action plans to impact their health and personal fitness positively. Instruction in nutrition will provide training in identifying healthy foods and those to avoid/eliminate. Fun: Shenandoah students will have fun and be noticeably happy. Christian teenage students expect to have fun, and we will be a great and guiding source of support to them in having long-lasting fun. View full school

It made it possible for the region's residents to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions. UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley, including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016. View full university

Utah Valley University was established in 1941 as Central Utah Vocational School (CUVS) with the primary function of providing war production training. CUVS was part of the Provo School District located in south Provo. The institution received a state appropriation in March 1945 of $50,000 to operate for the 1945-1947 biennium. In 1947, the school received funding as a permanent state institution. A new site for the school was acquired on University Avenue in Provo in 1948. In 1952, the state appropriated funding for the first construction on that site. As enrollments grew, the state acquired over 185 acres in southwest Orem, and the first building was completed in 1977. Today, the University's facilities consist of a combined total of 412 acres with 50 buildings with campuses in Orem, Provo, and Heber City and property in Vineyard and at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi. In 1963, the school's name changed to Utah Trade Technical Institute to reflect its growing technical training role. The name again changed in 1967 to Utah Technical College at Provo. The institution was approved in 1966 to grant Associate of Applied Science degrees, in 1967 to offer general education courses, in 1971 to grant Associate of Science degrees (discontinued in 1974 and reinstated in 1981), and in 1987 to grant Associate of Arts degrees. With its expanded degree offerings, the institution's name changed again to Utah Valley Community College in 1987. In 1993, the institution's name changed to Utah Valley State College, and the mission was expanded to include the offering of bachelor's degrees. On July 1, 2008, the institution underwent another mission and name change to Utah Valley University and began offering master's degree programs. Throughout its history, UVU has responded to its service region's (Utah, Wasatch, and Summit counties) population changes and business/industry needs. This responsiveness is evidenced in its mission, program offering, degree level, and enrollment changes. In 1941, the nation was slowly recovering from the Depression of the 1930s. The shadow of war was creeping closer, and the need for arms and ammunition by the Allied forces demanded skilled artisans. Many citizens had benefited from the federal work programs during the Depression but needed more training to qualify for better jobs. Vocational classes were taught at various shops and businesses throughout Utah and Heber valleys under the State Vocational Office's direction. In fall 1941, under the direction of Hyrum E. Johnson, those vocational training courses were moved to a central location in south Provo and were named Central Utah Vocational School. After World War II, 90 percent of the school's budget was lost with the war production training funds' cancellation. A bill was introduced in the 1943 Utah Legislature to make the school a state-supported, two-year vocational school. The bill, although approved in the House, was defeated in the Senate. Cutbacks followed, and fewer classes were offered until the College received a $50,000 operating cost appropriation from 1945 through 1947. The appropriation was vehemently opposed by local two-year colleges and the two local universities because it posed a threat to the money those institutions received from the Legislature. In 1947, the school received funding as a permanent state institution. During the summer of 1945, Johnson was given a leave of absence. Following a short transitional period, Wilson W. Sorensen, former purchasing agent for the school, was appointed director. Sorensen was instrumental in obtaining a new 13-acre site for the school in Provo, purchased by Provo City, Utah County, and the four local school districts to understand that the state would finance new college facilities. In 1952, the state appropriated $400,000 for the first phase of the Provo Campus. The complete facility was built in three phases and completed in 1963. The campus was designed for 1,200 students. In 1961, enrollment was nearing 1,000 students. By 1971, it increased 100 percent to nearly 2,000, far more than the campus could accommodate. Growth brought many changes to the College. During the Sorensen years, the name of the College changed several times to reflect these dynamics. In 1963, it changed from Central Utah Vocational School to Utah Trade Technical Institute. In 1967, it became Utah Technical College at Provo, and with this change, the College was given authority to confer associate degrees. Demand for more space sent college officials searching for land. One hundred and eighty-five acres of farmland was purchased in southwest Orem adjacent to I-15. The new campus's first phase used state and student funds for the first buildings and a $1.5 million federal grant for landscaping. This initial campus was dedicated in March 1977 with a business and administration building. A learning resource center and trades building was added to the campus as soon as the state made funds available. In 1982, Sorensen retired after 41 years of service and 37 years as president. J. Marvin Higbee, former president of Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, was named the third president of the College. President Higbee took on the challenge of broadening the College's image and scope by offering expanded educational opportunities to all facets of the community. In 1987, the Legislature changed the school's name to Utah Valley Community College to reflect this expanded mission. The campus continued to expand under Higbee. Not only were significant building projects initiated, but several education programs were also added to help the College keep pace with local demand. Higbee also emphasized the need for community support of the institution by focusing on the Development Office's involvement efforts, the Utah Valley Community College Foundation, and the Alumni Association. In 1988, Lucille Stoddard, vice president for academic affairs, was appointed interim president during the search for a new president. View full university

  15. Carrabassett Valley Academy is a private middle/high school at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine, offering a unique balance of college-preparatory academics and competitive ski and snowboard training. Nestled in Maine's western mountains since 1982, we have earned more Olympic medals for skiing and snowboarding than some small countries. Our students have attended the most prestigious colleges and universities. CVA prepares student-athletes to be responsible, caring citizens who know the value of hard work and commitment. CVA is more than a school. It is a way of life that is shaped by the ruggedness of the terrain and environment. We create an experience not found elsewhere, an experience that creates growth, opportunity, and choices. A full-on academic, athletic, and community experience that is life-changing. We are student-centered. We tap into a student's passion for skiing/snowboarding, love of the outdoors, and willingness to work hard. We use that passion to help students achieve his/her personal best to create the most powerful high school resume, so upon graduation, he/she has the most post-secondary academic and athletic choices. We are the leader in delivering programs that enable students from 7th grade to Post-graduate to obtain a rigorous college preparatory education while pursuing athletic aspirations. It is a time tested integration of academics, athletics, and community, providing a framework for students to become confident, independent, and advocates for themselves. The intent and purpose of Carrabassett Valley Academy are to foster focused individual student-athlete development by providing the optimum balance between outstanding college-preparatory academics, responsible community living, and world-class athletic training in competitive skiing and snowboarding. Carrabassett Valley Academy is the offshoot of the Sugarloaf Regional Ski Educational Foundation (SRSEF), which began operations in 1969 to help racers and freestylers sharpen their competitive skills skiing. While the tutorial program was successful, members of the SRSEF and others soon became interested in establishing a ski academy at Sugarloaf to allow young athletes to stay in the Western Mountains of Maine rather than attend ski academies out of state. In the winter of 1982-1983, spurred by visionary H. King Cummings and other enthusiastic pioneers, Carrabassett Valley Academy opened its doors for the first time as a five-month, winter-term tutorial program. CVA's charge was to develop a school for student-athletes based on the Greek ideal of developing the body, mind, and spirit equally. With its initial 15 students, the program was designed to provide young athletes with a high quality college-preparatory academic program while allowing for and emphasizing time on the mountain. The following year CVA relocated to the former Capricorn Lodge as a full-time ski academy and college preparatory program. Since that time, CVA has seen many exciting changes and reached several goals and milestones, including the first snowboard, big mountain, and freeride programs. Following the development of a new campus plan, twenty-two acres of land was purchased a soccer field, 29,000 sq. ft. Antigravity Complex and new residential dormitory, and academic center have been constructed. View full school

Incredible performances on BASIS Curriculum developed examinations, Advanced Placement Tests, and the OECD Test for Schools based on PISA being rightly championed and celebrated. Competitive academics, college acceptances, remarkable individual achievements – all are worth pointing to. A combination of student intellectual curiosity and faculty subject expertise leads to an environment where learning is valued for its own sake and embraced as a means in itself and not merely an end. Our mission is to educate students to the highest international levels with a spiraling liberal arts and sciences curriculum benchmarked to the world's best education systems. Our advanced curriculum, unmatched in breadth and depth, prepares students with the content knowledge, critical thinking, and self-advocacy skills needed to succeed throughout their education and well beyond. Our passionate, expert teachers are unwavering in their belief that any child can excel with hard work, the right support, encouragement, and inspiration. We are committed to a positive learning culture where hard work is celebrated, and intellectual pursuits result in extraordinary outcomes. This philosophy drives the scope and sequence of the BASIS Curriculum. Our perspective is evergreen and does not give in to the pressure of the latest education trends. We are proud to be both unabashedly forward-thinking and unapologetically old-fashioned in our approach. We focus on what works and what is proven when it comes to preparing students today for what is to come tomorrow: Today, we can no longer conceive of opportunity for the next generation as confined to a city, a state, or even a nation. We commit to teaching our students to the highest global standards to succeed in the best universities in the world and compete in a global professional marketplace. Founded by two economists, our schools have been committed, from our earliest days to the smart, network-wide use of student performance data. We hold ourselves accountable for using the insights this data provides to sustain and improve our students' learning outcomes. Our study path is connected from the student’s academic start in preschool to the student’s finish with Senior Projects. Our curriculum is carefully calibrated so that students are appropriately challenged and excited by their learning in every discipline and at every grade level. Each year builds as a preparation for the challenges to come. We teach our students to achieve mastery of the foundational academic disciplines and competencies, for it is that mastery, which will empower their future lives and careers. In our classrooms, bolstered by the faculty's unwavering support, students will face demanding challenges and celebrate extraordinary victories as they learn and uphold excellence. Our use of technology in education is highly focused: we use technology to help solve problems of scale, help create the connective tissue that joins a network of schools into an integrated system with data-driven quality control, and share best practices. We use it to ensure that curricular decisions and innovations are driven by our teachers, not a top-down, centralized bureaucracy. We believe technological competency is a skill necessary to thrive in our modern academic, professional, and personal lives. While technology is one of many tools available to teachers to engage and inspire students to take ownership of their learning experience, devices cannot replace the dynamic, co-creative classroom interaction between teachers and students. Trust and respect between teacher and student is the essential ingredient in academic success. In our schools, diverse perspectives are challenged and tested in an environment of informed thought and collegiality. Students must be prepared to navigate the uncertainty of the 21st-century landscape with profound humility. By engaging with various global perspectives, our students are empowered to make their own decisions about how they will navigate their world. Conflict and struggle are vital components in our students' maturation and the evolution of their most deeply held convictions. View full school
  17. Since 1946, our small California boarding school has been an environment where adolescents are cared for, allowed to grow, and free to be themselves in a culture of learning and respect. Besant Hill students are encouraged to try new things in our supportive environment. Most importantly, they become lifelong learners who are adaptable to change and know the importance of continuous growth. The independence students gain and the friendships and bonds they forge while at our school enable them to realize success, both in college and life. We think that is pretty invaluable. The mission of Besant Hill School is the development of each individual's intellectual and artistic abilities. Through awakening the spirit of inquiry, we encourage students to pursue integrity and excellence. Our non-competitive college-prep community builds honesty, respect, compassion, and responsibility. Our goal is to develop a lifelong habit of learning as embodied in our school's motto. The philosophy of Besant Hill School is drawn from the vision of our founders. They believed that an environment that encourages the fullest development of student potential allows exploring creative and intellectual abilities. They believed that a school with a global community would cultivate understanding and promote world peace. In working together in a spirit of cooperation, not conformity, our boarding school community seeks to cultivate and express what is excellent in each of us. Intellectual curiosity and a spirit of inquiry are the activating factors in the educational process. Active participation in a community builds caring and responsible individuals and promotes lives of integrity, awareness, and purpose. Every day, we live a promise to continue our founders' mission by working individually with each student as they follow their passions and strive to achieve their goals. By fulfilling this promise, we hope to instill the unique set of values of the Besant Hill School Portrait of a Graduate that honor individuality, critical thinking, creative and artistic passions, global citizenship, and environmental activism. Besant Hill School is an environment where teens can grow, not merely studying for a test or the SATs. Here, students are encouraged to take what they learn and synthesize new knowledge about the problems they are facing. Besant Hill School students gain lifelong skills that allow them to adapt to change and new learning. View full school
  18. For over 40 years, Green Mountain Valley School has been dedicated to supporting one very clear mission: fostering a life-long love of learning, sport, and adventure within competitive skiers. Our goal has always been to create an environment where students are encouraged to become well-rounded scholars and citizens. Founded in 1973, GMVS stands apart as a unique educational institution. GMVS is not just a school or a ski club, it’s a lifestyle. A lifestyle that celebrates the dual pursuit of rigorous academics and athletics all while cultivating a life-long love of learning, an adventurous spirit, grit, and determination – character traits that will prepare graduates to confidently and wisely impact the world. At Green Mountain Valley School, our goals go beyond providing exceptional training in alpine and Nordic ski racing with our strong college preparatory academic program. We put ski racing and studies into the broader perspective of competition and adventure. We know that the patterns of accomplishment carry over into every aspect of a student-athlete's life, especially after graduation. Living and learning at GMVS is about far more than just skiing or school. It’s about being a passionate and lifelong athlete. It’s about becoming intellectually challenged and eternally curious, being simultaneously independent and community-minded, persevering and doing far more than you think you can achieve. It’s a place, despite our focus on skiing, where you do not have to sacrifice your dreams of academic greatness, your passion for other sports, or your commitment to the arts. Here you can truly be “all you can be.” Our results and facilities are the visible embodiment of the GMVS mission and success. Yet, what might be a bit less visible are the relationships embedded in the fabric of our school that support these endeavors. GMVS alumni have gone on to become World Cup athletes and Olympians, to thrive at some of the country’s most selective colleges and universities, and to build careers as actors, CEOs, photographers, health care professionals, and entrepreneurs. Most importantly, our alumni continue to cite the values instilled in them here at GMVS as catalysts for their successes. Our goal as a ski academy is to recognize that one can compete at the highest level athletically and simultaneously pursue academic excellence. While the athletic program trains students for world-class competition, the teaching staff prepares students for a future beyond skiing. Our program encourages students to explore their interests in many areas. In addition to a full college preparatory curriculum in English, history and social sciences, foreign languages, math, and science, GMVS offers extracurricular opportunities in theater, music, and the visual arts. Students individually plan their academic schedules in consultation with the Director of Academics, their coach, and the College Placement Counselor. Courses and course load are selected based on academic preparedness, ability, and the demands of each student’s travel schedule, not necessarily by age or grade levels. GMVS continues to offer the traditional core courses as well as a variety of electives, opportunities for honors, and advanced work. Students are required to pass basic skills courses before moving on to advanced courses. Small classes encourage preparation, involvement, and performance. Course loads are demanding, and teachers maintain high standards so that students stretch the limits of their potential. At the same time, our 5:1 student to teacher ratio enables staff to adjust those standards to individual students, taking into consideration learning style, college goals, and racing schedule. Teachers mentor students to ensure mastery of class material and they teach students how to balance the demands on their time. Teachers work closely with each other as well, developing interdisciplinary projects that reinforce subject material. Our Learning Support Skills accelerate student learning by providing additional customized support beyond what the classroom teachers and advisors offer. The programs recognize students’ talents while helping them acquire skills and strategies to become independent lifelong learners. These individualized programs are designed to enhance a student’s reading, writing, organization, time management, and study skills allowing the student to effectively demonstrate understanding at GMVS and in college.
  19. Located in the Rocky Mountain West, Fountain Valley School of Colorado offers a college-preparatory, boarding, and day school program for motivated students within a close-knit and supportive community. The generous Colorado landscape of open prairie and snow-capped mountains is a continual source of personal inspiration, as well as a reminder of the opportunities and responsibilities that lie beyond the School’s boundaries. As you and your family explore Fountain Valley School of Colorado, you will discover an educational community that is both traditional and progressive, that takes full advantage of its location in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and yet embraces a global perspective. Most importantly, you will discover a community of adults and students who live, work, and learn by the core values identified by our first headmaster, Francis Froelicher: courage, open-mindedness, self-reliance, curiosity, and compassion. Francis Froelicher, the School’s founding headmaster, believed that Fountain Valley School should prepare students “to write their history.” To empower them to do so, the School seeks to nurture all students in their pursuit of excellence and strives to develop in all students the following core values: To embrace challenge intellectually, physically, emotionally, and spiritually as a pathway to insight and self-understanding to stretch and see beyond one’s perceived boundaries To be aware of the richness and depth of all human experience To be responsible for exhibiting initiative and accountability, working independently and collaboratively To value lifelong pleasure in intellectual exploration and discovery to receive the consequent satisfaction of achievement and excellence through focused, creative effort To demonstrate care and service to others, and to live a balanced and healthy life, enjoying the harmony of work and play Fountain Valley School of Colorado provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics, and the outdoors in a diverse community to develop young adults who are courageous, open-minded, self-reliant, curious, and compassionate. Academics at Fountain Valley School of Colorado are challenging and comprehensive, offering honors and Advanced Placement courses in all disciplines while providing a flexible approach to assure appropriate course placement for all students. The curriculum is designed to stimulate curiosity, encourage critical-thinking skills, develop intellectual stamina, and prepare students for the finest colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. At FVS, we believe it is essential to embrace the world beyond our campus, borders, and mindset. To prepare students to thrive in this diverse world, we offer both formal and informal global opportunities ranging from a sequenced Global Scholar program to living with an international student or working on a service project with a local immigrant community. Our goal is to move beyond mere tolerance of diversity to genuine engagement as school and world citizens. Moments big and small add up to a transformative total. Students learn about themselves daily through academics, athletics, the arts, and extracurriculars—through the relations they build with faculty who are also their advisers, coaches, and houseparents—through a close-knit community that cheers on those who try something new—through the lifelong friendships formed here—through abundant leadership opportunities—and through a culture that motivates students to reach their full potential.
  21. 22. Welcome to BASIS Independent Silicon Valley. At our grades 5–12 private school in San Jose, we prove time and again that with the right support and encouragement, all students can achieve academic excellence. How? We set the bar high and help students develop the confidence to clear it. Our curriculum, paired with our expert teachers, helps students achieve whatever they put their hearts and minds. It is challenging, it is rewarding, and it is inspiring. Our incredible, passionate, and dedicated teachers bring the internationally recognized BASIS Curriculum to life in a setting that fosters a dedication to the pursuit of knowledge and the pleasure inherent in scrutinizing and understanding the world around us. Our students study a wide variety of subjects – from Classical Civilizations to advanced mathematics. They are taught to be critical and analytical thinkers – to be open-minded and autonomous – to trust themselves and excel. This is a school where there truly is no shortage of success.
  23. The school has received some awards which reflect the high quality of our work. The school was graded 'Good' by Ofsted in its most recent full inspection. The Valley Primary School Local Governing Body monitors the school’s key performance indicators and acts as a critical friend to the Headteacher, providing challenges where appropriate. The day-to-day management of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher, who reports to the Valley Primary School Local Governing Body and the Connect Board of Trustees. The Valley Primary School Local Governing Body meets at least once a term to discuss issues and developments, review policies, the finances, and make important decisions about the running of the school. There are various committees and groups which oversee the running of different aspects of the school. Some committees meet at regular intervals and others meet as and when required. All groups report to the Valley Primary School Local Governing Body. The Chair of the Local Governing Body is William Mitchell. There are two main standing committees which are: Finance & Personnel (Chair: Toby Reid) Learning & Achievement (Chair: To be confirmed) There are other committees responsible for the discipline of pupils and staff, the Headteacher’s performance appraisal, who meet as and when required. Valley Primary School Local Governors are unpaid volunteers and are appointed or elected for four years. Parent governors are elected by parents following an election staff governors are elected by a vote by staff (both teaching and support staff) community governors are appointed by the Local Governing Body. Parent governors can stay to complete their term even if their child leaves the school. Our school's curriculum is made up of all the learning and other experiences that staff plan for our children. The curriculum that we deliver at Valley is balanced and broadly based. We use UK National Curriculum for English and Maths and use the International Primary Curriculum for other areas e.g. history, geography, and science. Music and sport are also strong aspects of our curriculum offer. Valley Primary School is a busy place. Our general aim is to create a community where each child is helped and encouraged to become independent, happy, confident, and to develop their capacity to learn throughout their lifetime. We develop the whole child physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially. We work hard to ensure that each child feels safe, secure, and happy and we support them and their families in promoting a healthy lifestyle. We work hard to instill a strong sense of community at Valley. Our curriculum is not static as we constantly monitor, review and develop it to meet the needs of our pupils and their community. Our high expectations build on individual achievements and children are encouraged to improve on their previous best. We are committed to the inclusion of all our learners. All children, including those with specific learning difficulties, the ablest, those with physical disabilities, and children with English as an additional language are nurtured through an extensive range of strategies, interventions, and support. Computing and E-Safety at Valley have been a development focus since March 2014 and is a key priority for us in 2015-16. Our goal is to embed the use of technology within the classroom and make it a tool that teachers and pupils can use to enable and support independent learning. Our computing journey began in 2014 when we sought independent advice and support from ‘9ine’ Technology Consultants. We acted on their advice, implementing the following: Introducing iPads for mobile learning - moving towards one to one Developing our core infrastructure with a robust Wi-Fi network Hiring a Network Manager/Learning Technologist to support us on our journey Staff training and building confidence Introducing pupil ‘Digital Leaders’ Engaging with our community through information sessions Developing strong E-safety systems and procedures, knowledge and skills A big part of our journey was working out how to effectively deliver the new National Curriculum computing syllabus. We are currently achieving this through the use of technology such as Espresso Coding and regular lessons about E-Safety and Digital Citizenship. The computing syllabus is also covered by the International Primary Curriculum units of work. Some units cover all aspects of computing and offer plenty of scopes to embed more general ICT skills including internet research, online communication and collaboration, digital presentations, and film creation in a wide cross-curricular context.
