    Tokushima University

    Tokushima University was established as a national university in 1949. It consists of two campuses. Our University is open to the whole world, and we are doing our best to create a prosperous and peaceful society for the future. Tokushima University’s aims include the pursuit of truth and knowledge creation in a spirit of independence. In doing so, the University will be able to continue our outstanding academic and cultural tradition. Our University is open to the whole world, and we will do our best to create an enriched and peaceful society for the future. Tokushima University will search for truth, create knowledge, and inherit and develop eminent sciences and cultures with a spirit of independence and autonomy. We will contribute as a global university to establish a robust and abundantly prosperous society. Tokushima University selected priority support established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, aiming to become a university that contributes to the region, conducting world-class research in specific fields. One of the characteristics of Tokushima University is that it is endowed with science teachers who undertake education and research in medicine, dentistry and pharmaceutics, science and technology, and biotic resources, as well as teachers of the humanities related to integrated science. Leveraging the strengths of the University, we aim to become a world-class university in ten years, offering solutions to the problems of humankind from the region. To achieve this, all of the faculty and staff must continuously work to reform the University. Support from the outside is also essential for the development of the University, so we ask for your continued patronage. Tokushima University has Josanjima Campus and Kuramoto Campus. On Josanjima campus, there are the Faculties of Integrated Arts and Sciences, Science and Technology and Bioscience and Bioindustry, and the Graduate Schools of Integrated Arts and Sciences and Advanced Technology and Science. Affiliated with the University are the Center for University Extension, International Center, University Library, and other institutes and centers. Tokushima University provides newly-arrived international students with various educational support types, including orientations and Japanese language courses. Furthermore, Tokushima University organizes many events in which Japanese and international students can participate together to get to know each other better, such as Summer School in which students of Tokushima University and our partner universities jointly participate, International Coordination Symposium that invites former international students to talk about their contributions back in their home countries after graduation, multi-cultural exchange party for international students to have interactions among themselves, study tour to experience Japanese culture and ski trip for Japanese and international students, and also events for international students to interact with local people such as welcome party by residents for international students newly arrived at the International House and international students’ visits to local primary schools, etc.
  2. In 1895, the 28th year of the Meiji period, Sai Murasaki founded a private vocational institution. Tokushima Bunri University and its affiliated Junior College consist of 9 faculties and 26 departments, making it one of the largest post-secondary institutions in Western Japan. The University has two campuses: Tokushima Campus in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture, and Kagawa Campus in Sanuki City, located east of Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture. The undergraduate program of the Tokushima Campus consists of six-year courses in the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and four-year courses in the Faculty of Human Life Sciences, Health and Welfare, Policy Studies, and Music. There is also a one-year postgraduate course in Human Life Sciences, Music or Midwifery, and Master’s Degree and Ph.D. courses in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Human Life Sciences, and Policy Studies Course as a Professional Degree Program. Tokushima Bunri Junior College has two-year programs in Commerce, Language and Communication, Life Science, Child Care, and Music at the Tokushima Campus. At the Kagawa-Campus, there are four-year programs at the Faculty of Health and Welfare, Literature, Science and Engineering, and a six-year program in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. There are also Master’s Degree and Ph.D. courses in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Literature, and Engineering. Nowadays, Tokushima Bunri University and Tokushima Bunri Junior College and a kindergarten, an elementary school, a junior-and senior-high-school make up the Murasaki Gakuen Educational Foundation. The founding motto of Tokushima Bunri University is “Independence and Cooperation,” and the academic environment in any of its programs reflects and promotes this phrase through professional faculty and staff and up-to-date research facilities. Situated in one of Tokushima’s central districts of culture and education, the Tokushima campus offers an environment conducive to learning and creativity. It attracts students from all parts of the country. This campus has a new Music Faculty building, including the Murasaki Hall, a world-class concert hall, the Central Research Building with state-of-the-art equipment for pharmaceutical science research, and the Murasaki Tadahito Memorial Library built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Murasaki Gakuen. Students interested in such faculties as Engineering or Literature study here and have the opportunity to utilize the recently opened high-tech Research and Media Library, a state-of-the-art engineering laboratory, and other facilities to assist them in their studies. Each library at the Tokushima and Kagawa campuses is equipped with various computers such as personal network computers, work stations, and mini-computers. They are joined by the LAN (Local Area Network) system. Almost every month, different events are held at Tokushima Bunri University, involving students and faculty. Such events include the first-year student orientation, the English Oratorical Contest, the school festival, various concerts, and commencement. Each campus has a student cafeteria and various lounges where students and faculty can meet on an informal basis. Bunri University has strived to make a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment for the benefit of all.
