About Me

  1. Texas Christian School (TCS) provides top-notch academic programs that prepare our students for the next level, but our reach goes beyond the classroom. Our faculty and staff engage students in service to our community and our Lord. We provide leadership opportunities, athletics, and fine arts that build confidence and skills to develop focus and teamwork. Texas Christian School in Houston, Texas, was established as a college preparatory school with an advanced curriculum that would challenge eager minds based on a character development program that would nurture the individual. TCS trains young people, not only academically but also in character development, which prepares them as leaders in the workforce with values that will enable them to be an asset to their employer, the community, state, and nation. The purpose of Texas Christian School is two-fold. First, as a ministry of the Lord, we provide the opportunity for a quality Christian education and strive for excellence in spiritual, academic, social, and physical development. Secondly, because God designs every student for a specific purpose in this life, we seek to assist parents in discovering gifts, developing skills, molding character, and training Godly leaders who will impact the people they touch for Jesus Christ. We are built on heritage as old as the west pioneers who were healthy and bold, with a big vision as the Texas sky. Committed, determined, and blazing a trail for those who would follow confidence, excelling, and setting the pace for those who would contend challenging, solidifying, and paving the way to the future for those who would lead. A bright light shining in the distance with a spirit of adventure, a standard of excellence, and a vision of greatness, we are Texas… The center of focus in all we do: the foundation on which everything else is established, and the very essence and nature of our ministry. Where the Lord Jesus Christ is pre-eminent, traditional values are emphasized, and Godly character is molded…pointing in His direction…following in His path…doing things His way…it is because of Him that we are. And, above all else, we are Christian… Where the standards are set, expectations are held, and goals are secured. Where our eyes are fixed, hopes are anchored, and from where every good and perfect gift descends. Where the Lord Jesus sits and directs the affairs of people and nations. Where, when the final trumpet will sound, we will rise – on High! We are an independent, nondenominational, Christian educational institution. Trained, experienced, loving, Christian professionals with a zeal for teaching…a body of believers working together to train our children and prepare them for the future: in this life and beyond…a source of higher learning, we are a School.
  2. The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) at the University of North Texas (UNT) is the nation's first early college entrance residential program for gifted high school-aged students. If admitted into TAMS, students withdraw from their high schools and enter the world of university education at UNT, a Tier 1 research institution. Mentored by faculty at UNT, TAMS students tackle complex, real-world problems, working on solutions and breakthroughs in fields ranging from healthcare to energy consumption. TAMS at UNT serves as an essential pipeline for STEM education, nurturing the next generation of innovators. The TAMS experience's goal is to develop the whole person – but the focus of the experience is on the academic program. Taking rigorous university courses working with university faculty in their scientific laboratories serving in research internships at medical schools or NASA, having the opportunity to engage in artistic pursuits, reflective philosophical discourses, and an exercise to enhance physical well-being are all part of the Academy experience. Our purpose is to extend knowledge and understanding for each student far beyond where they are when they arrive. Our students take university courses – not high school courses – and the faculty are university professors who are also engaged in internationally recognized research. Note that the TAMS core curriculum requires the same science and mathematics courses that science and mathematics majors take. University faculty bring to the classroom a unique perspective that enriches what they teach. Academy students benefit uniquely from this knowledge and expertise. Our sincere desire is that students will find an environment in which they can increase knowledge, develop imagination, explore ideas and feelings, find life-long friends, and strengthen their desire to serve humankind. If you have questions regarding the TAMS academic program, please call 940-565-3979. As a student selected for the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, you join a unique living-learning community designed to promote academic achievement and personal growth. The Student Life Department will assist each student in adjusting to and making the most of this experience. To maximize the TAMS experience, students are encouraged to get involved in all aspects of campus life. Involvement provides co-curricular opportunities that complete the educational process, foster student development, and prepare all students for life beyond the university. The mission of the Student Life department is to establish and maintain a community living environment that is safe, fun, comfortable, accepting of diversity, and conducive to learning. This environment allows students to establish roots while at TAMS and, after two years, have a skill set that allows each student to prosper and excel at their next educational endeavor. The mission of the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science is to provide an accelerated education for bright, motivated Texas high school-age students who have demonstrated a passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The academy also seeks to provide its students with the companionship of intellectual peers to encourage students to develop the creativity, curiosity, reasoning ability, and self-discipline that lead to independent thought and action and aid students in developing the integrity that will enable them to benefit society.
  3. St. Mark's School of Texas, Founded in 1906 as the Terrill School for Boys with 42 students, today we serve more than 850 boys in grades one through twelve. As a school focused clearly on boys' education, our teachers, coaches, and advisors understand and appreciate the unique nature of boyhood. With challenging programs designed to inspire, motivate, and stretch our students, St. Mark's is a place where boys can be themselves, develop respect for others, and learn what it means to be a man of real character and integrity. Our mission at St. Mark's is clear – we seek to develop men of character who will serve with intelligence, compassion, and integrity. While excellence and achievement are prevalent in programs and activities across the campus, it is the character of the people that defines our School – faculty who care deeply about their charges and students who give freely to one another to strengthen the sense of community continually. Courage and Honor are two words commonly used to describe the ethos of our campus. As the School motto, these terms remind us what values underpin our mission and daily work. If you visit our School, you will quickly see that we have some of the most vital academic, athletic, artistic, and extracurricular programs imaginable. Our boys learn from teachers who are leaders in their fields and individuals who genuinely love their work. St. Mark's is a community that works together and is driven by a common purpose. St. Mark's School of Texas is a non-sectarian, college preparatory, independent day school for boys in grades 1-12. The Charter states that the School is "designed to afford its students well-rounded physical, intellectual, moral, and religious training and instruction." The St. Mark's Board of Trustees intends for the School to be a diverse community of teachers and students who share a love of learning and who strive for high achievement in whatever they undertake. Challenging studies in the Sciences, Arts, and Humanities form the basis of a St. Mark's education. Teachers work to instill an enthusiasm for learning, encourage independent and critical judgment, and demonstrate the methods for making sound inquiries and effective communication. To complement this academic experience, St. Mark's offers boys a wide variety of opportunities for involvement and leadership in the school community and on its playing fields to realize their potential, rewarding those who strive as well as those who achieve. St. Mark's aims to prepare young men for assuming leadership and responsibility in a competitive and changing world. To this end, the School professes and upholds specific values. These values include the discipline of postponing immediate gratification in the interest of earning eventual, hard-won satisfaction the responsibility of defending one's ideas, of respecting the views of others, and of accepting the consequences for one's actions and an appreciation for the lively connection between knowledge and responsibility, privilege and the obligation to serve. Generations of Marksmen affirm that St. Mark's provides one of the most rigorous and rewarding educations in the nation. An investment in education lasts a lifetime, and evaluating and honing the academic program remains a top priority. A boy's character can be strengthened, and his leadership capacity can be developed. Therefore, we approach to character and leadership education with the same intentionality as teaching math, science, English, foreign language, and history. Teachers are the core of the St. Mark's community. Whether they lead a classroom, inspire an athlete, keep the campus clean and secure, or manage the business of the School, every employee at St. Mark's is an educator and supports the development of our boys. Ongoing learning, improvement, and growth are essential to continued excellence. When professionals arrive on campus, we must provide a nurturing environment, outstanding growth opportunities, and a community of support. The School is dedicated to sustaining its commitment to excellent teaching.

Every course in the law school curriculum is designed to contribute to attaining some, but not all, of these Learning Outcomes, and each course will emphasize a particular subset of them. The history of South Texas College of Law Houston dates back to 1886 when the local YMCA drafted its constitution, which called for the organization to engage in educational endeavors. In 1923, the YMCA decided to establish a law school focusing on offering night classes for working professionals. So began a tradition of educational excellence and relevant career preparation that has now spanned almost a century. South Texas School of Law, as it was then known, opened its doors on Sept. 24, 1923, with seven part-time instructors and a first class of 34 students. Classes were held in a single room in the YMCA basement, with wooden fans suspended from the ceiling and chairs with arms that served as desks. But by 1945, when it changed its name to South Texas College of Law Houston, enrollment had surpassed the University of Texas School of Law for the first time. In 2009, Donald J. Guter was announced as the new President and Dean of the College. After a nationwide search, he was selected, leaving the faculty of Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh, where he also served as dean from 2005 through 2008. Under Dean Guter's leadership, the College has further strengthened its tradition of developing some of the best-prepared lawyers in the state and nation. Students consistently outperform the five-year average bar pass rate for Texas, and graduates maintain one of the state's highest employment rates. Beyond that, they enter the workforce with less debt than their counterparts at other private law schools. In the fall of 2016, the school continued to receive national recognition. It was named the #1 BEST of the DECADE in Moot Court competitions, holding the most national championships of any public or private law school in the U.S., as recognized by PreLaw Magazine.

Students who receive funding from the Committee on Student Research will present their research at the Undergraduate Research Symposium. Several students will pursue the opportunity to present their work in other venues regionally and nationally. Finally, undergraduate research's underlying purpose is to prepare students for the professional world — public, private, or academic. Popular past locations include the following countries: Ireland, England, Italy, Spain, France, China, Taiwan, Greece, Israel, Czech Republic, Hungary, Chile, and Jamaica. In 1839, the Republic of Texas Congress ordered that a site be set aside to meet the state's higher education needs. After a series of delays over the next several decades, the state legislature reinvigorated the project in 1876, calling to establish a "university of the first class." Austin was selected as the new university site in 1881, and construction began on the original Main Building in November 1882. Less than one year later, on Sept. 15, 1883, The University of Texas at Austin opened with one building, eight professors, one proctor, 221 students — and a mission to change the world. Today, UT Austin is a world-renowned higher education, research, and public service institution serving more than 51,000 students annually through 18 top-ranked colleges and schools.

On the northern outskirts of Austin, Texas, a parcel of land was selected to become Concordia's new home. The selection of an appropriate site is instrumental to any institution's success, and it would be the same for Concordia. However, some were skeptical of the location given its distance from downtown, while others consider even the acreage excessive. Is Concordia overextending itself? Is this the right decision? Those were some of the sentiments in 1926 when a 20-acre site along East Avenue north of downtown Austin was selected for the new high school. Looking back, the concerns over location and size seem humorous with its location so close to downtown. The Austin of 1926 was very different from the Austin of 2008. In the twenty-first century of urban sprawl, it can be challenging to imagine vast, open countryside just a few miles north of the Capital. Much has changed. Over the years, a quiet broad thoroughfare known as East Avenue was replaced by the concrete of a double-decked interstate populated by roaring traffic. Open fields were replaced by dense development and an airport that has already come and gone. However, through it all, Concordia remained and flourished by God's grace on that small tract of land between Red River and Interstate 35. Expansion of services will also allow the University to reach out to the community and the church, broadening external relationships and image. Combining these will create a new, healthier future for Concordia and deepen the foundation on which it is built.

  18. For 125 years, UTMB has stood with Texas—training the health care workforce, helping make the state a leader in advancing the understanding and treatment of illness and injury, serving as a significant provider of health care for Texans and their families, and innovating the future of how care is delivered. UTMB opened in 1891 as the nation's first public medical school and hospital under unified leadership—already a pioneer. What began as one hospital and medical school building in Galveston is now a major academic health sciences center of global influence, with medical, nursing, health professions, and graduate biomedical schools a world-renowned research enterprise and a growing, comprehensive health system with hospitals on three campuses and a network of clinics. Today, UTMB has a $3.3 billion annual statewide economic impact in business volume, personal income, and durable goods purchases. More than 42,000 jobs in Texas are directly or indirectly attributed to UTMB. UTMB includes schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, and Graduate Biomedical Sciences, four institutes for advanced study, a primary medical library, a network of hospitals and clinics that provide a full range of primary and specialized medical care, and numerous research facilities. UTMB is a part of The University of Texas System and a member of the Texas Medical Center. UTMB's mission is to improve health for the people of Texas and around the world by offering innovative education and training, pursuing cutting edge research, and providing the highest quality patient care. We work together to work wonders as we define health care's future and strive to be the best in all our endeavors. Four essential strategic priorities—People, Value, Strategic Management and Growth, and Resources—are the foundation for our strategic vision and efforts to improve lives in an evolving health care landscape. This year, we focus our strategic priorities toward becoming a Top 20 health care provider among our academic medical center peers through our Best Care initiative. Achieving this goal is essential to our future success and will ensure the long-term health of our mission. The Road Ahead helps illustrate how every member of the university community—in classrooms, laboratories, hospitals, clinics, and support areas throughout Texas—is vital to our mission of improving health in Texas and around the world. UTMB has a long and marvelous history of advancing health sciences education, research, and patient care. It was the first academic health center in Texas and is home to the state's first schools of medicine, nursing, and allied health sciences. For 125 years, the University has maintained a forward-thinking spirit that has enabled it to serve its students, patients, and people in Texas and beyond in innovative ways. That pioneering spirit is alive and well today, enabling us to honor our legacy even as we expand our focus to improve health care worldwide. The members of the UTMB community share a deep commitment to service, an enduring dedication to excellence, a strong desire to blaze new trails, and a great willingness to leverage their extraordinary expertise." Established in 1891 as the University of Texas Medical Department, UTMB has grown from one building, 23 students and 13 faculty members to a modern health science center with campuses in Galveston, League City, and Angleton than 3,200 students and about 900 faculty. Research is one of the eight pillars essential to UTMB's mission to improve health for the people of Texas and around the world. Research Services is a value-added partner in the UTMB research enterprise. We facilitate the UTMB research mission, from funding identification through project completion by providing research-specific resources and education promoting research and advising and assisting with administrative policies and regulations. Throughout a student's program of study, the Honors College emphasizes the breadth of academic experience. In the junior and senior year, honors students also become more focused on a particular academic discipline. Upper-division honors work typically culminates in a senior honors thesis or senior honors project under the direction of a faculty member from the student's major department. Incoming newcomers and transfer students are automatically considered for scholarships once admitted into the Honors College, while current Honors students may apply for scholarships annually. Founded by the Texas Legislature in 1969, UTSA was commissioned as a university of the first class. Administrative offices for the first UTSA president, Arleigh B. Templeton, were set up in 1970 in Hemisfair Park. Architect Ford, Powell, and Carson Inc. began developing a conceptual master plan for the campus. With an 80% Hispanic student population, UTEP proudly reflects the demographic composition of the bi-national region from which it draws the vast majority of its students. Eighty-four percent of students are from El Paso County, and 4 percent are Mexican nationals. The Brookings Institution, a nonprofit public policy organization based in Washington, D.C., ranked UTEP No.1 among all U.S. public universities that perform well in research productivity and student social mobility. The University ranks among the top 10 colleges and universities nationally for Hispanic graduates in public relations and communications, education, engineering, mathematics and statistics, homeland security and law enforcement, and business management and marketing. The Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts have become an internationally renowned venue for contemporary art, focusing on work relevant to the U.S.-Mexico border region. UTEP's Creative Writing faculty of award-winning novelists and poets offers the nation's first bilingual (English-Spanish) MFA program. The UTEP Dinner Theatre is the only full-time dinner theatre on a university campus. One of El Paso's most popular entertainment venues, showcasing UTEP theatre arts students and faculty talents who have won national recognition for acting, choreography, and set design. The University of Texas at El Paso commits itself to provide quality higher education to a diverse student population. Classified as a Doctoral/Research-Intensive University, UTEP seeks to extend the most significant possible educational access to a region that has been geographically isolated with limited economic and educational opportunities for many of its people. The University will ensure that its graduates obtain the best education possible, equal one, and in some respects, superior to that of other institutions so that UTEP graduates will be competitive in the global marketplace. UTEP also envisions capitalizing on its bi-national location to create and maintain multicultural, inter-American educational and research collaborations among students, faculty, institutions, and industries, especially in northern Mexico. The UTEP community - faculty, students, staff, and administrators - commits itself to the two ideals of excellence and access. Also, the University accepts a strict standard of accountability for institutional effectiveness as it educates students who will be the leaders of the 21st century. Through accomplishing its mission and goals via continuous improvement, UTEP aspires to be an educational leader in a changing economic, technological, and social environment: a new model for Texas higher education. The University of Texas at El Paso is dedicated to advancing the El Paso region through education, creative and artistic production, and the generation, interpretation, application, and commercialization of fundamental discoveries, and the dissemination of knowledge. UTEP embraces its role as an intellectual, cultural, and socioeconomic asset to the region, offering programs to meet human resource needs and contribute to the quality of life. As a public university, UTEP is committed to providing access and opportunity to the people of the El Paso region and the State of Texas. UTEP's mission of ensuring access is coupled with a commitment to excellence reflected in rigorous programs, which prepare students to make significant contributions to their professions, their communities, and the world. As a research/doctoral institution, UTEP fosters a climate of scholarly inquiry, with a particular focus on applying innovative interdisciplinary approaches to explore and address significant issues that confront the multicultural, U.S.-Mexico border region. UTEP shares a rich history with the surrounding region. We were founded in 1914 as the Texas School of Mines and Metallurgy, with 27 students and a handful of faculty and staff to respond to the mining industry's needs in the region. From this modest beginning, UTEP has grown into a dynamic urban university that serves its more than 25,000 students enrolled in 70 bachelor's, over 80 masters, and 22 doctoral programs. UTEP is recognized nationally for its leadership role in changing the face of U.S. higher education. Our students, who are 78% Hispanic, mirror this region's population and, increasingly, that of Texas and the United States. UTEP's success in serving as a catalyst for economic development and quality of life in this region has placed us in the national spotlight as a model 21st century U.S. research university.
