    University of Skovde

Ever since its inception in 1977, we have aimed for excellence. Every decision has emerged from a focus on creating excellent and well-known educations and research specializations that make a difference to reality. We are a modern and welcoming university with first-class education and internationally competitive research, a place where we strive for the most significant accomplishments. The University of Skövde is relatively young, but still comparable to the old prestigious universities in terms of quality. In the national quality assessments for 2011 to 2014, we came in seventh place. This can be attributed to methodical and persistent work to offer high-quality courses, facilitating both knowledge and employability. Some of our programs are unique specializations, while others have interdisciplinary breadth. We also collaborate with the industry, following their demands in order to create employable students. We are one of the most specialized universities in Sweden. Research is conducted within five areas: Informatics, System Biology, Virtual Engineering, Health and Learning, and Enterprises for the future. By concentrating our efforts, we can provide competitive research and highly skilled researchers to our partners within academia, the industry, and society in general. The research performed at the University of Skövde is deemed to be of high quality, according to the Assessment of Research and Co-production 2013. Our research generates essential solutions for the future. For example, we have produced crash simulation software for the automotive industry, evolved computer games for the healthcare industry, and developed an entirely new plant that can absorb and store arsenic to clean the earth and save lives. The University has a beautiful and green campus, which forms a natural meeting point for students, staff, and visitors. Here you can find restaurants with a wide range of choices and a library with excellent facilities. Our campus has high-tech and well-equipped premises, which provide a stimulating and creative environment for both students and employees. The atmosphere also encourages simplicity in the contacts between students and their teachers. At the University of Skövde, decision-making is transparent, engaging the students and Student Union representatives in many decision-making forums. The University and the Student Union welcome all international students with an orientation program to ease the transition into the Swedish academic system and the University. To enhance student life in Skövde, the Student Union, with its associations, arranges numerous sports and social activities for its members throughout the year. The Student Union House and most student accommodation are within easy walking distance from the campus. Being a VOLVO Preferred Research Partner, one out of five globally, and having ongoing projects with world-renowned companies such as Astra Zeneca and Microsoft, show that we are an attractive partner collaboration and partnership. Collaborating with international and local companies and the public sector through mentorship-programs, advisory boards, guest lectures, degree projects, job fairs, etc. gives the students valuable contacts for the future and prepares them for their future careers. Our aim is that collaborations with the University of Skövde should be easy. The atmosphere here is open and innovative. We listen to and engage in the needs of the world that surrounds us. Subsequently, we can play an essential part in developing new products and ideas through our specific education and research knowledge. Our cooperation reaches across the Swedish borders. The University of Skövde currently has partnerships with around 90 universities and other higher education institutions around the world. This offers opportunities for our students and staff to gain international experiences and for students and academics from all over the world to come to Skövde. At the University of Skövde, we see internationalization as a natural part of higher education. An international perspective should always be a part of the University's work to guarantee high quality. Internationalization work should be included in all university areas, involving all of its departments and schools. Our goal is to achieve an efficient internationalization of all our education programs and courses. Furthermore, we want to encourage student exchange and teacher exchange and develop our study programs, or parts of them, to make them more suitable for internationalization. The University of Skövde is actively taking part in several international exchange agreements and networks. Most of the student, teacher, and staff exchanges occur within the European scholarship program, Erasmus. Within this program, students, teachers, and administrative staff can apply for a scholarship. The exchange can occur at some of the partner universities in Europe, which the University has an agreement with. The University of Skövde also takes part in Nordplus, a program that offers exchanges within the Nordic and the Baltic countries. Through the Linneaus- Palme exchange program, which Sida financed, the University of Skövde runs several projects with universities in developing countries. Students can also apply for a Minor Field Studies (MFS) scholarship. This scholarship enables students who will write their thesis the possibility to make a minor field study in a developing country. The University also takes part in an Erasmus-Mundus network called Lamenitec, a network between institutions in Europe and Latin America.
