  7. The multi-sided dilemma higher education faces today in Saudi Arabia is how to plan for and implement new technologies, how to absorb an ever-increasing number of high school graduates, and how to train, upgrade personnel, and maintain old systems without spending exorbitant amounts of money. At the same time, institutions are challenged with shifting demographics, rising student expectations, overburdened traditional government educational institutions, government mandates, and increased competition. Due to such factors, universities in Saudi Arabia must adapt their traditional roles, without abandoning them, to the demands of the information society of the future or to adopt a mix of traditional/non-traditional approaches to higher education. Although the government has invested heavily in higher education, which has grown impressively over the last three decades, the country's human resources potential is not fully utilized. Higher education needs to be expanded, both horizontally by establishing institutions in regions that lack facilities at this level and vertically by diversifying the types of institutions and their programs in keeping with recognized priorities of the country and recent advances in health sciences and technology. While the government will continue to be the leading provider of higher education, the urgent need for Saudi Arabia to meet pressing demands calls and an essential contribution from the private sector, there is a favorable climate for private initiatives in developing higher education in Saudi Arabia, with due consideration to quality assurance regulations and mechanisms set by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the National Commission for Accreditation and Academic Assessment (NCAA). Almaarefa Colleges for Science & Technology (MCST) is a private establishment of higher education, designed to fulfill a recognized public function by meeting identified needs in important domains for national development. By adopting an innovative approach to teaching and learning, by using cutting-edge educational technologies, MCST attracts students from a broadly targeted clientele, namely high school graduates (both male and female) from the Riyadh region, from other regions of Saudi Arabia, and the GCC states. It is also envisioned to attract expatriaexpatriates ' daughters who wish to pursue college studies. Also, MCST attracts Diploma graduates from various health specialties through a bridging program. To prepare students to meet the modern professional requirements in the medical and computer fields in a technologically advanced setting that encourages initiative and leadership, provide a professional academic environment for its faculty, and excel in community services. To qualify and develop professionals in the field of medicine, pharmacy, nursing, allied health, computer science, and information system for both private and government sectors so they can make a significant contribution to the development of the economic and social sectors in Saudi Arabia by achieving excellence in education through high-quality teaching and using the most modern pedagogy. The Saudi Ministry of Education licenses MCST, and its degrees are fully accredited. The academic majors and curriculum have been designed and approved by King Abdullah Institute for Research and Consulting Studies (KAI-RCS) at King Saud University. The scientific references for these programs are international accreditation bodies, scientific associations, and top universities. More than forty experts with doctorate degrees and medical boards and fellowship have participated in the College curriculum design. MCST recognizes that a competent and dedicated faculty is the core of a high-quality educational program. To this end, MCST facilitates its faculty's development by providing an environment that nurtures individual efforts and professional growth. MCST encourages all its faculty members to provide high-quality instruction, intellectual contributions, and service activities. 11. Aligarh Muslim University The University grew out of the work of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the great Muslim reformer and statesman, who, in the aftermath of the Indian War of Independence of 1857 felt that it was important for Muslims to gain Education and become involved in the public life and government services in India. Raja Jai Kishan helped Sir Syed in establishing the University The British decision to replace the use of Persian in 1842 for government employment and the language of Courts of Law caused deep anxiety among Muslims of the sub-continent. Sir Syed saw a need for Muslims to acquire proficiency in the English language and Western sciences if the community were to maintain its social and political clout, particularly in Northern India. He began to prepare the foundation for the formation of a Muslim University by starting schools at Moradabad (1858) and Ghazipur (1863). His purpose for the establishment of the Scientific Society in 1864, in Aligarh, was to translate Western works into Indian languages as a prelude to prepare the community to accept Western Education and to inculcate scientific temperament among the Muslims. The intense desire to enhance the social conditions of Indian Muslims led Sir Syed to publish the periodical, 'Tehzibul Akhlaq' in 1870. 12. The London School of Science & Technology (LSST) is a privately managed higher education college which was founded by Mr. Syed Zaidi in 2003 with the vision to support local communities and encourage social cohesion. Through his successful leadership, LSST has grown to become one of the leading institutions of its kind, widening participation to include anyone with a desire for education. With a student population of 2,000, the diversity of our learners reflects our ethos – to provide education to all students, regardless of their background and upbringing. We recognize that the conventional route into higher education does not work for everyone; therefore, we focus on what qualities our prospective students can bring to their learning experience rather than their qualifications. Our focus is on you – which is why we offer a flexible timetable to allow you to fit your studies around your daily responsibilities. Our headquarters are based at our London campus in Alperton, which houses our Senior Management Team and all central administrative functions. We have expanded our reach to include campuses in Luton and Birmingham, with each Campus having its management, administrative and academic teams. At LSST, we pride ourselves on offering a quality learning experience. The intimate nature of our institutions allows our dedicated staff to provide direct one-to-one support to our students, guaranteeing a rewarding and fulfilling route to success. Our current academic portfolio consists of career-focused courses delivered at Levels 3 to 6, particularly in the fields of Business (with several pathways), IT and Computing, and Hospitality Management. LSST is a new concept in higher education that is designed to integrate study into the life that you lead. Gaining higher-level skills and qualifications is essential, but sometimes it can be difficult or virtually impossible to fit traditional study into your life. That is why we have designed this new approach to learning. LSST is designed specifically for people who want to benefit from high-quality courses but who have decided that the traditional student experience is not for them. We provide a focused teaching and learning environment that will lead to academic and professional qualifications. Moreover, this is precisely where our commitment lies. As well as making sure that our courses meet the criteria for an academic qualification – wherever possible, we have designed our courses around the standards for professional qualifications. We want every single student that leaves LSST to have the relevant skills and knowledge that will help them secure employment in their chosen profession – so you have the potential to achieve an academic qualification plus a professional qualification, which could help make you even more attractive to employers. We offer a structured teaching week with the flexibility to choose morning or afternoon classes, wherever possible and numbers permitting, to help you study around your other commitments. This can be an ideal option if you are a mature student returning to education or need to fit your studies around your job. LSST puts you in charge. You manage your studies to suit your work responsibilities, your commitments, your lifestyle – working towards an academic qualification is challenging, but it should not be a chore. Our course teams contain both academics and practicing professionals. They aim to work together to help you discover your subject from all angles, the theory, and the practice. Moreover, unlike many other institutions, our tutors maintain high levels of class contact and offer support to help ensure you are learning throughout your time at LSST. LSST validates all of our awards, so you can be confident that you are studying at the university level and be assured that the content is of high quality. The fees that you pay at LSST are significantly lower than those at many other comparable institutions. 13. LSE is one of the world's leading social science universities. We have committed to a strategy that will build on our strengths, address challenges, and maintain our worldwide reputation for excellence. We have already achieved many of the goals set out in our 2014 review, including: Strengthening our faculty, which has resulted in remarkable success in the Research Excellence Framework and significant improvements in most research-based and reputational rankings. Investing in our LSE Careers service for LSE alumni. Opening a new Ph.D. Academy to nurture the next generation of leaders. Launching four new institutes, including The Marshall Institute for Philanthropy and Social Entrepreneurship and The International Inequalities Institute. Starting a significant redevelopment of our campus, featuring a state-of-the-art 13 story building overlooking a new public square. We have not been standing still. However, rapid changes are taking place in higher education, and we need to change accordingly. LSE was founded in 1895 to create and share the knowledge that addresses significant social challenges and shapes a better world. The School works through research, education, creative intellectual debate, and public engagement. Our mission is to advance knowledge in social science and a range of related fields to inform public policy, economic decision-making, and social welfare both nationally and globally. This means nurturing creative thought and intellectual exploration and educating students from all backgrounds and worldwide to be critical thinkers and skilled professionals. They work for the betterment of society. LSE's mission charges the School with making a positive difference to the world by bringing research-based knowledge to public problems and educating students with the capacity to lead in solving those problems. Our ambition is to excel in every aspect of this mission. Through our teaching, our research, and our alumni's work, we will make an effort 'to know the causes of things' a force for good. Right now, amid rapid change in higher education, a crucial priority is to ensure that our students benefit from excellent teaching and rewarding educational experience. We are at work on this in all we do, from building a new state of the art classrooms to improving student support systems and ensuring excellence in teaching is rewarded. Outstanding education must be as central to LSE as brilliant research and exciting public engagement. The LSE's future depends on enhancing our quality, innovation, and intellectual distinctiveness as a leading institution for social science. At LSE, social science is central to education and research in public policy and law in management, accounting, and finance in international development and social policy. It is also the focus of pathbreaking research. To sustain this amid change and challenges, we pursue a strategy that builds on the School's core identity: the public mission and openness inaugurated by its founders, its remarkably global character, and its commitment to making knowledge matter in practical affairs. Our strategy guides action in a context we cannot completely control. We can see that new technologies matter, but it is not clear exactly how they will change higher education. We know that students need confidence that their education prepares them for future jobs, but careers are changing rapidly. To perform well amid these changes, we need to redouble our commitment to quality throughout the School. In the faculty, we recruit, in our research and teaching, to deliver essential services like IT, the Estate, the Library, job placement, and student life. We need to renew our commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. We also need to innovate, improve the rooms in which we teach, redesign courses, advance research methodology, develop new centers of excellence like the International Institute on Inequalities, or the Marshall Institute on Philanthropy and Social Entrepreneurship.

  23. The world is changing rapidly, and we are experiencing what many have called the fourth industrial revolution. This revolution is being led by innovations such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things, and big data. These innovations are consuming the world. Rapid globalization has also created more and more complicated international problems. In a further 20 years, the world will be beyond our imagination, and our children will need the abilities and skills to solve problems without clear answers. Although our world is rapidly changing, education at Japanese schools has changed very little in 50 years. That is one of the reasons we decided to open an international science school five years ago and the Laurus International School of Science Primary School last April. As the first and only international school of science in Japan, we promise to devote ourselves to equipping your children with the tools and knowledge they will need to create their own future. Not only will we guide and encourage them to become innovators and leaders, but we will also help them become responsible, contributing members of society during an era of uncertainty. Science does not equal complicated chemical formulas. Children are born scientists, with brimming curiosity, who naturally learn about the world around them. Our curriculum at Laurus International School of Science guides each student by providing opportunities to participate in new, educational experiences. Students are then encouraged to think scientifically by creating a hypothesis and guided to learn by experimentation. Epitomizing the Laurus school ethos, science classes challenge students via stimulating thematic units which encourage children to hypothesize, experiment, and inquire!
  24. The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) at the University of North Texas (UNT) is the nation's first early college entrance residential program for gifted high school-aged students. If admitted into TAMS, students withdraw from their high schools and enter the world of university education at UNT, a Tier 1 research institution. Mentored by faculty at UNT, TAMS students tackle complex, real-world problems, working on solutions and breakthroughs in fields ranging from healthcare to energy consumption. TAMS at UNT serves as an essential pipeline for STEM education, nurturing the next generation of innovators. The TAMS experience's goal is to develop the whole person – but the focus of the experience is on the academic program. Taking rigorous university courses working with university faculty in their scientific laboratories serving in research internships at medical schools or NASA, having the opportunity to engage in artistic pursuits, reflective philosophical discourses, and an exercise to enhance physical well-being are all part of the Academy experience. Our purpose is to extend knowledge and understanding for each student far beyond where they are when they arrive. Our students take university courses – not high school courses – and the faculty are university professors who are also engaged in internationally recognized research. Note that the TAMS core curriculum requires the same science and mathematics courses that science and mathematics majors take. University faculty bring to the classroom a unique perspective that enriches what they teach. Academy students benefit uniquely from this knowledge and expertise. Our sincere desire is that students will find an environment in which they can increase knowledge, develop imagination, explore ideas and feelings, find life-long friends, and strengthen their desire to serve humankind. If you have questions regarding the TAMS academic program, please call 940-565-3979. As a student selected for the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, you join a unique living-learning community designed to promote academic achievement and personal growth. The Student Life Department will assist each student in adjusting to and making the most of this experience. To maximize the TAMS experience, students are encouraged to get involved in all aspects of campus life. Involvement provides co-curricular opportunities that complete the educational process, foster student development, and prepare all students for life beyond the university. The mission of the Student Life department is to establish and maintain a community living environment that is safe, fun, comfortable, accepting of diversity, and conducive to learning. This environment allows students to establish roots while at TAMS and, after two years, have a skill set that allows each student to prosper and excel at their next educational endeavor. The mission of the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science is to provide an accelerated education for bright, motivated Texas high school-age students who have demonstrated a passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The academy also seeks to provide its students with the companionship of intellectual peers to encourage students to develop the creativity, curiosity, reasoning ability, and self-discipline that lead to independent thought and action and aid students in developing the integrity that will enable them to benefit society. 25. The land that is now the site of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler has a rich history of commitment and dedication to patient care and community health. From its early beginnings in 1943 as the 1,000-bed Camp Fannin Army hospital site during World War II through decades of fighting against pulmonary diseases like tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and asbestosis, UT Health Science Center has served the citizens of Texas with distinction. Great strides have been made in subsequent years, advancing healthcare through biomedical research one discovery at a time in scientific areas including lung injury and repair, infectious lung diseases, and cancer, to name just a few ongoing research projects. Today, the biomedical research conducted at UT Health Science Center is nationally recognized and competitively funded by private foundations, non-profit organizations, the Centers for Disease Control, and the gold standard of research support – the National Institutions of Health. As UT Health Science Center continues to make its dreams a reality, the tradition of excellence and public service that began with a barracks hospital 75 years ago remains a core commitment today. With exceptional patient care, comprehensive education, and innovative research, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler and UT Health East Texas combine to serve as the university medical center for Northeast Texas and beyond. A shield defends our communities in Northeast Texas. It protects our health today and safeguards our health and wellness for the future. It stands stalwart between the people we care about and the illnesses, epidemics, and hazards that threaten them. That shield is The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. Our academic mission is a shield forged of three parts – graduate medical education, graduate education, and biomedical and clinical research. Three integral, interconnected components joined unlike anywhere else in Northeast Texas. As the region's only university medical center, UT Health Science Center is home to some of the latest developments in patient care and community health, medical and health education, and biomedical and clinical research. Only about five percent of hospitals qualify as university medical centers. However, this small group of elite institutions is our nation's primary conduit between first-rate patient care, education, research, and the communities we serve. There is a physician shortage in rural counties throughout Northeast Texas. That is why the UT Health Science Center trains the next generation of doctors. Both locally and globally, new and familiar diseases continue to threaten countless lives. That is why UT Health Science Center conducts biomedical and clinical research and trains much-needed future scientists to understand and combat these diseases and infections. Complex problems require sophisticated, modern solutions. That is why UT Health Science Center trains graduate biotechnology students to lead the innovation revolution at the forefront of modern science. Northeast Texas is the sickest and most rural region in the state with profoundly unfavorable health disparities. That is why UT Health Science Center trains public health graduate students to establish systematic, long-term health education and wellness initiatives to promote health for those who need these programs the most. This comprehensive approach makes UT Health Science Center the first and best hope to fortify the long-term health and wellness of Northeast Texas. The challenges we face are significant, but our resolve is more significant at the UT Health Science Center. Every day at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, we look to our mission and vision to guide our education, research, and patient care initiatives. In partnership with communities across our region, we are improving individuals' and communities' health.
