  3. Historically, Bina Bangsa School was founded in 2001, intending to fulfill the aspirations of families who wished to give their children a national education with a global outlook. Henceforth, BBS came into existence – with an internationally recognized Cambridge program - IGCSE and ‘A’ Levels Curricular. We have integrated our academic training with the teaching of the Christian faith as our central value system. To date, we are proud to announce that we have established 6 affiliated campuses in Jakarta, Malang, Semarang, Bandung and our latest edition being the Balikpapan campus. The current total enrolment is approximately 4000 students ranging from pre-nursery to junior college students. The school infrastructure has grown to support individual campus requirements so that our students will enjoy a meaningful time at school. We are also proud to claim that each campus holds a niche area either in the field of Music and Dance, Chinese and Western orchestras, or Sports. As a family of schools, we act synergistically by executing a common educational model. Academically in the last 16 years, we have become a pioneering force in international education in Indonesia, as we have produced distinguished candidates who have been admitted to top-notch foreign universities in the United Kingdom, America, Canada, Australia, Singapore Taiwan, and China. We provide a range of activities to cultivate the subject knowledge and critical thinking skills of our students. To endorse our academic records, we have attained outstanding awards in the following examinations and competitions - The Cambridge Learner’s Award (CIE), International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS), Japan International, Science and Mathematics Olympiads (JISMOS), to name a few. Bina Bangsa is also reputed for the Bilingual program we provide, where our students are motivated to employ three different languages – English Language, Bahasa Indonesia, and Chinese Language to form a multilingual community. Language acquisition has always been our centerpiece, where many resources such as language instruments, and systems of testing are used to harness students’ learning. Our BBS hallmark is a remarkable record of teachers from an international community, whereby ‘diversity meets unity’, to form a BBS village. We recognize that teachers are the bedrock of our foundation, who ensure that each child is differentiated in the area of academic training, leadership, and personal development. As a school, we aim to extend ourselves beyond classroom meetings, where students are exposed to learning journeys and field trips to augment their overall learning. Students are also driven to exercise their talents and expertise to serve their immediate Indonesian community. The Bina Bangsa School is still evolving, as the school recognizes that the 21 st century competencies and skills must govern the new currency for this school. The notion of Progressive Education is evident in the way we teach, learn, and think with the given academic programs we offer. To enable students to realize a clear sense of self-worth, inculcate discipline, instill open-mindedness, integrity, tenacity, and courage throughout their learning journey. To be a school that nurtures leaders who strive to be the best that they can be through lifelong learning, rooted in our culture, grounded in the Word of God. All classes are led by at least one English-speaking and one Indonesian-speaking teacher. We strive to maintain a low teacher-student ratio. We also expose our students to a bilingual program environment, introducing Mandarin in incremental stages through the nursery to kindergarten. It is BBS's belief, based on academic research findings, that children pick up on language skills better if they are exposed to the language at a young age.

  6. There is no word to describe how grateful we are to God who has opened the way for SDH in Medan. It is a great hope that SDH continues to bless the wider community in Indonesia, especially in North Sumatra. We instill quality of Christian education in which we build not only cognitive and social growth of a child, but preeminently one’s spiritual growth. This holistic educational approach is feasible through fine, loving, Christian teachers and school administrators as well as home-school collaboration. With the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, we will proceed to continue the good work He has begun: to proclaim the preeminence of Christ. Throughout the years ahead, there are several school programs. The programs are designed delicately to engage students experiencing the blessings through learning. The students will participate in formative and culminating learning activities such as scientific research, chapel, field trip, Student-Led Conference, Mission Service Learning, and many else. Our aims through these activities are to nurture students to grow as people who have a personal relationship with God and who develop loving and respectful relationships with all people to provide opportunities for students to think critically, solve problems, and collaborate. To ensure all of these happen, the school is committed to being Christ-focused, Bible-based, and be a prayerful and worshipful community. We pursue to enable school community members to be respectful to others at all times to provide a secure school environment. The dream of our founders was to establish 10 units of Sekolah Pelita Harapan - An international type of school, 100 units of Sekolah Dian Harapan - a national type of school, and 1000 units of Sekolah Lentera Harapan - a subsidized school for underprivileged families all across Indonesia. We believe that parents are the prime educator for their children. Therefore, we would like to partner with them as the Second Home in educating their children. We believe the Bible as Truth, God’s written word as the preeminent place in the life of our school. Our Schools strive to be Christ-centered, transformative, and holistic for Kindergarten to grade 12 students. These are the core of our mission that we are trying to be consistent within educating our students.
  7. We are in an age where change is upon us faster than ever. The world of the internet and mobile devices have blurred geographical boundaries bridged seamless information exchange and communication across countries and cultures, and facilitated the blending of different social cultures and customs. The new generation embraces a whole new world that is always changing and exciting yet uncertain and dangerous. At Ichthus, we are unambiguous in our mission: we provide a value-driven education based on a solid Christian foundation. We take a five-prong approach: we provide our students with a well- balanced academic curriculum, co-curriculum activities, outdoor education, personal and social education, and value-based learning built on a foundation of sound biblical teachings. We believe that all students grow and develop in their ways and that as educators, it is our privilege to impart knowledge, biblical values, and ability to discern right from wrong in leadership, inaction, and communication. As educators, we must prepare students to live a Christian life in a global society. ACSI provides a highly regarded accreditation program for secondary, elementary, and standalone and attached preschools. ACSI has partnerships with all of the U.S. regional accreditation agencies. ACSI schools seek accreditation to validate their quality and verify that they are striving for excellence based on a solid Christian philosophy of education foundation. The ACSI accreditation protocol is unique in two significant ways: (1) it probes the spiritual aspects of each component of the organization and (2) it addresses the educational quality and integrity of the organization. The following addresses the issues are demonstrating that the school is right to its statements of philosophy, mission, and goals and that it is meeting the standards of quality and effectiveness. Ichthus Secondary School (Grades 7 to 10) offers secondary education integrating the Cambridge Secondary Curriculum for Cambridge Checkpoints in Grade 8 and the Cambridge IGCSE Curriculum in Grades 9 and 10, as well as the curriculum for the Indonesian National Examination in Grade 9. The Comprehensive Ichthus Curriculum's aim for the Lower Secondary level is the student's holistic growth; hence, importance is given not only to academic excellence but also to spiritual and social development. In preparation for tertiary education, students are taught not just the knowledge and understanding needed to succeed in examinations, but also how to take this knowledge and apply it creatively to their lives and experiences. Our teachers have the required qualifications and classroom experience. They undergo regular in-house professional development sessions to ensure that they keep abreast of current developments in the teaching/learning process. The school provides standardized facilities (including IT Labs, Science Labs, Library, LCD overhead projectors) to carry out the required academic activities in preparation for the Cambridge and National examinations.
  8. It is a privilege to be the Principal of West Island School. Our learners both inspire and motivate us with their diversity, their hard work, their ambition, and their success. In the care of expert teachers, learners achieve excellent academic results, well above world averages, and secure futures in a wide range of prestigious universities on all continents. A culture of excellence and a rich curriculum means that many of our young people will also become leaders in the world of arts and sports alongside their traditional academic studies. Our focus on knowing learners as individuals and nurturing their unique talents and interests builds a secure foundation for experiencing success from a young age. We know that the future world of work demands a set of skills not tested by formal examination systems. Our central mission is to go one step further and prepare young people for the world of work through a shared language of ‘learning approaches’. In an age where content can be searched and retrieved, the true skill of our graduates is knowing the value and application of their knowledge how to construct meaning and work within teams, and to communicate effectively with others. Throughout their time at West Island School, our learners become responsible global citizens. With strong links to both the local and international community, student-led projects engage learners in global action to aid others. Our students leave us with a clear sense of their place in the world and how they can influence it. Teaching through the English medium, our school has been established in the best traditions of the English Schools Foundation (ESF) which has served the Hong Kong community for 50 years. Located in an exciting and innovative building from where we can see the University, Hong Kong’s biggest teaching hospital, Cyber Port, and busy shipping lanes that demonstrate the key position of Hong Kong on the Pacific Rim. We welcome students of all nationalities to join us on what we believe is a learning superhighway connected to the world. Our journey starts in the strong partnership between students, parents, teachers, and support staff who have the shared view that our cultural diversity enriches and strengthens the life of the school.

  10. Welcome back to SISHK: 2016/17 has been the busiest year with the celebrations for our school’s anniversary. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our parents and community for your enthusiastic participation in all the events and for making the year such a memorable one! Our school year ended with some very good news from our students. In July, five of our Primary Two students won one bronze and four gold medals when they represented Hong Kong in the World Maths Invitational in Vietnam. Over at the secondary school, S4 students are to be commended for their performance in the IGCSE examinations, with two-thirds of the grades achieved being distinctions. Our DP students also performed very well in their Diploma examinations, with an average of 37 points for the IB Diploma and more than 35% achieved 40 points and above. We are very proud of our graduates as they start the next phase of their learning journey in universities all over the world including Oxford (UK), Cambridge (UK), Northeastern (USA), Berklee (USA), and British Columbia (Canada). One-fifth of the cohort will be matriculating to one of the Hong Kong universities. Some students will be returning to Singapore to pursue their degree studies at the National University of Singapore or Nanyang Technological University while others will be starting National Service back in Singapore. The interests of this cohort reflect the diversity of talents among our students, courses they will be studying range from Media Studies, Music, Law, Medicine, Physics, English, Chemical Engineering, Business to Accountancy, and others. As a whole, the academic achievements of our students are laudable. SISHK prides itself on our academic rigor and our student body ranges widely in terms of academic inclination, creative aptitude, language proficiency, physical capability as we are a non-selective school. In addition to academic excellence, we support our students to discover and pursue their passions and talents and equip them with the tools to face future challenges and thrive in an ever-changing world.| Our team has grown with more teachers joining us from around the world and new heads joining the management team to lead the school forward. In the next few months, we will be upgrading the swimming pool’s water filtration system and constructing a canopy over the basketball courts at the Nam Long Shan campus. Alternative PE lessons are in place during this period and we will have another all-weather outdoor area for the children to enjoy after the works are completed. We will also be further refining our teaching and learning strategies as well as fine-tuning the range of activities and events to further enrich our students’ learning experiences. The team and I are all looking forward to another exciting year ahead, partnering with you to create more learning opportunities and experiences for your children. To provide a conducive environment for a future-oriented, holistic education, anchored in a rigorous bilingual academic program, for children of all nationalities. We nurture students to be independent life-long learners imbued with sound moral values who are respectful and responsible, and who rise to the challenges of life creatively and enthusiastically in an ever-changing world. We respect the dignity and worth of all the students under our care. We believe that all students can be nurtured to achieve their full potential within a school environment that is both caring and challenging. We expect all students to be respectful, responsible, and to rise to the challenges of life.
  11. South Island is a proud member of the ESF family but this is a unique school with a particular and very special ethos. Put simply, it is our core aspiration that, during their time with us, every individual student makes a positive difference – a difference to their own lives and a difference to the lives of others. Our students and our outstanding staff team are our two most precious assets. Such is the caliber of our young people, from over 38 different countries, that we believe that there is no limit to what they can achieve. While we have high expectations and are ambitious for our students, we also know that for them to succeed, we need to provide a caring, supportive and challenging environment in which they can grow and flourish. I believe that this is such an environment. We celebrate a musical solo as warmly as we celebrate a student gaining an A*, a wonderful painting as happily as a top IB score, a great sporting performance as enthusiastically as a place secured at an Ivy League University. We underscore with all of our young people that what matters is not gaining qualifications for their own sake but learning – always being open to personal growth, having a mindset that welcomes and tackles problems, being resilient when times get tough. Our alumni have gone on to all of the world’s elite Universities and many have created brilliant careers for themselves – but hopefully, they also leave here with a set of values, and a perspective on life that leads them to want more than simply the accumulation of wealth. South Island offers an extraordinary number of opportunities, both within our taught curriculum and beyond. This is a happy school with a great spirit and a sense that anything and everything is possible. Our purpose at South Island School is to raise consciousness in our school community about the way individuals make a difference in a complex world. Our learning philosophy and environment promote freedom of thought, expression, and action. We educate all students to develop their skills and their deep learning so they can make informed decisions and take action responsibly. We believe that individual success will be demonstrated when our students are happy, resilient, and curious thinkers who thrive in an inclusive, resourceful, and compassionate community. We aim to offer the opportunities and the guidance for them to become honest, responsible, and courageous citizens. We want all of our actions as a community to promote learning and the holistic concept of sustainable futures. South Island School is a rich and diverse community. We seek at all times to raise the consciousness of the inter-connectedness of the world and our place within it. We strive to promote freedom of thought, leading to actions that have personal meaning and local or global significance. Students are encouraged, through the curriculum and in their day-to-day school lives, to develop their international mindedness and an appreciation that there are many different perspectives from which to view our human existence. As we reflect in our Making a Difference philosophy, education for internationalism continues outside the classroom with the intention that providing diverse learning environments allows students to value the world as the ultimate context for their learning. The great majority of our extracurricular activities (for example, Model United Nations and TEDx) and our MaD Service trips (to countries such as Laos, Thailand, the Philippines, and China) provide students with the opportunity to engage in cross-cultural perspectives and issues. Teachers at South Island School understand the importance of supporting students to comprehend and act on needs that may be far from their geographical context – but at the same time not to neglect human and intercultural issues within their environment where inequities and misunderstandings continue to exist. We celebrate the fact that the diversity within our school community supports students, both in understanding global issues and in developing pluralistic attitudes. We believe that this environment allows our young people to embrace the differences which surround them, almost intuitively at times and without conscious intent. Chinese students dance in Diwali celebrations, Europeans join the Lion Dance Team, our sports teams do not separate on racial lines, our student leaders come from all sections of our community. We promote a wide range of languages through our curriculum (Chinese, French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and others) to show an appreciation of multilingualism and as a reflection of our common humanity and our cultural difference. ib-lp-English-pos-copy or School Philosophy merges completely with the intentions of the IB Learner Profile (see diagram). We see the Learner Profile as the aspirational ‘end’ and the IB Approaches Learning (ATLs) and Service Outcomes as the means to that end. We intend that a graduating SIS student will have a personal profile that shows progress and personal development again all ten elements of the Learner Profile. We do not see that the Learner Profile is a tool, in itself, for measuring progress but that it is a summation of all of the experiences that an SIS leaner is exposed to during school life. The three strands of our curricular offer – academic, pastoral and Values in Action and the personal portfolio that a student will build against each of these three organizers are the tangible record of progression and achievement towards the aspirations of the Learner Profile. South Island School is part of the English Schools Foundation of 22 Schools in Hong Kong that operates within the ESF government ordinance. The school is accountable to the Board of Governors (Executive Committee) of ESF but has its own School Council (local Governing Body) comprised of parents, community members, staff, and students. The Chair of the School Council is an independent person and is appointed to the school by the board of Governors. The School Council oversees the strategic direction and the performance of the school. The Council meets around six times per year. It has two sub-committees, namely Finance and Personnel (FP) and Learning and Professional Development (LPD) both chaired by community representatives. Among other matters, the FP sub-committee reviews the school’s annual budget and recommends acceptance to the full council. It also reviews personnel matters and considers health and safety issues. The LPD sub-committee’s work is more aimed at, inter alia, curriculum development, teaching methods, and examination performance.
  12. Singapore International School was first established in September 1991 in Kennedy Town with an enrolment of 200 pupils. In 1995, SISHK moved to its current premises in Aberdeen. The new purpose-built school was built on land granted by the Hong Kong government, and the cost of the building was borne by the Singapore Government. In 2012, our secondary campus was officially open. The two campuses are connected by a link bridge. Presently, the school has an enrolment of close to 1,500 pupils from approximately 20 nationalities with Singaporeans and Hong Kong permanent residents forming the majority. SISHK is recognized as a premier educational institution. Our first two batches of students have done well in their IGCSE examinations: they include winners of the Outstanding Cambridge Learners, such as Top in the World (Additional Mathematics, Global Perspectives, and Mathematics) and Top in Hong Kong (Biology, Global Perspectives, Music and Physics). Our first batch of IBDP students graduated in 2012/13. A vibrant community striving for excellence. The school motto serves as a constant reminder to the school community of students and teachers that small successes will motivate the individual to strive for greater achievements. We respect the dignity and worth of all the students under our care. We believe that all students can be nurtured to achieve their full potential within a school environment that is both caring and challenging. We expect all students to be respectful, responsible, and to rise to the challenges of life. Our staff in the SISHK family are committed to providing the best learning experience for all our students to bring out the best in our children. We care deeply about our students and believe that our students learn about respect when they see us practicing common courtesy and show concern to all those around us. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child – we will continue to work in partnership with all of our parents and students to make SISHK a caring, safe, and rich learning environment where our students have the time and space to learn, dream, explore, experiment and grow. 13. First Think International Kindergarten was founded in Laguna City in 1994. Now we have grown into 4 international kindergartens and 1 international school. In September 2016 Think Academy is planning to open, to offer secondary education. Think Academy will be using Cambridge Secondary 1 and Cambridge IGCSE, followed by the IB Diploma Programme. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive, child-centered, and challenging environment that uses an inquiry-based approach to foster diversity and to develop knowledgeable and open-minded, courageous, and caring life-long learners. We aim at preparing children to become global citizens who believe in themselves, respect other people, and love nature and their countries. With international education, students acquire a global vision. All children have individual strengths and talents. We are dedicated to providing a quality international education, which will help students discover and develop their special talents and gifts. We will also help them achieve the best of their ability. Children who are immersed in a bilingual environment at this young age are much more capable of learning the rudiments of another language than if they were to start later. We pledge that students should set a high standard for themselves, in doing so, they will excel. They should also look at the strengths of others so that the best of others’ abilities can be achieved. If students can master the above, they are bound to succeed.
  14. At Kingston, we want our students to fully develop all areas and fulfill their potential in a happy learning environment. We aim for each of our students to have a well-rounded education and to develop a love of learning that will last their whole life long. We believe that parents play a vital role in their child's learning and we work closely with our families to help their children prepare to face the challenges of the 21st century. Academic excellence, the belief in a healthy body as well as a healthy mind, dedicated staff, and caring families all contribute to Kingston continuing to be a high-quality school. To provide a challenging and stimulating environment that nurtures the balanced development of students who, in their own unique way, grow into active and responsible world citizens. Our Objectives: To provide a learning environment where English and Putonghua are the languages of instruction, To provide a quality education based on the principles of Internationalism, To provide our students with essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge along with the opportunities to apply them, To provide a safe and supportive learning environment where students can develop their own inquiries, To implement a program of inquiry that encourages students to take action, To provide opportunities for students to work independently and collaboratively while solving problems and meeting challenges, To promote respect for the beliefs and perspectives of others, To foster a sense of community among students, parents, teachers through open communication and cooperation. Kingston International School offers an IB-PYP bilingual (English/Putonghua) program for students aged 1 to 11 years of age. Kingston has three campuses - the Kindergarten and Children's Centre which houses our early year's program for children 1 to 4 years of age, a Lower Primary campus for students from Year 1 to Year 3, and an Upper Primary campus for students from Year 4 to Year 6. Although we have 3 campuses we are still a small school with a community feel. We maintain small class sizes and have an English and a Putonghua class teacher for each class. Kingston has been an authorized IB-PYP school since 2004. The philosophy of the PYP is infused in all aspects of our school. Teachers receive IB-PYP training and ongoing support from our PYP coordinators. At Kingston, we value teachers who are passionate, enthusiastic and true lifelong learners. Teachers that thrive in a small school environment and value teamwork both in the classroom and as a whole school are ideal Kingston teachers. Our teaching team is comprised of English and Putonghua teachers working side by side in the classroom so strong interpersonal skills and evidence of a high level of collaborative planning are essential.

  16. At Shrewsbury, you will uncover the unique blend of traditional educational values and innovative teaching methodology that will stand at the heart of our school. Drawing upon over 400 years of experience, we will nurture each child in our care with great diligence as they work through a broad, challenging, and fulfilling curriculum that promotes academic rigor, increasing levels of independence, and high attainment. We will explore the strengths of each individual within a world-class facility and develop a program of transition that enables them to thrive both within and beyond their school years. Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong was conceived and built with an ambitious and singular focus: to provide the very best international primary school education in Hong Kong. Drawing upon almost 500 years of experience, both in the UK and overseas, our commitment to excellence is widely recognized. Selected by the Hong Kong Education Bureau to open in 2018, we provide research-driven educational provision within a world-class, purpose-built facility in Tseung Kwan O. Our provision is built upon the benefits of individualized provision and collaborative learning. We believe that children have as much to learn from one another as they do from their teachers and have planned to ensure that our students are well nurtured within a broad and representative community of peers. Our classrooms and curriculum are designed to foster partnership and participation. Learning environments are flexible and neatly organized to promote clear, strategic thinking. Students will explore the ideas of others while they develop a refined understanding of their strengths through the selection of considerately designed tasks and activities. The classroom is the canvas our children bring the color. The design of a purpose-built school facility has enabled the development of a range of function-specific spaces for our students to learn within and be inspired by. Assemblies are held in the auditorium and choral lessons are delivered within the Recital Hall. This determined focus extends to the care with which we have considered the age-specific needs of our students. Our uncompromising vision continues throughout a facility that has been driven by specific expertise - none of this would be possible through facility refurbishment. Students and families at Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong are guided through a bespoke planning process designed to ensure that every child secures a place within a senior setting that enables them to thrive. School staff guides you on the characteristics of the many academic pathways available and the profile of individual schools both within and beyond Hong Kong. Maximizing our growing knowledge of your child will allow us to identify, select and support the appropriate transition to a leading senior school of your choice. For many parents, a pathway into the independent boarding sector is of particular interest. For many students, our sister school in Shropshire is a likely destination. Our learner profile provides a pathway that has served generations of Salopians — as our motto relates, if the heart is right, all will be well.
  17. Our school was established in 1953 as the only school in Hong Kong using Mandarin as the medium of instruction. The number of subjects being taught in English was increased in 1969, and the school, now classified as Anglo-Chinese, continued to justify its well-established, excellent reputation for high academic and moral standards. Although children of all backgrounds thrive in our school, we received many requests from families who wished their children to study, from Kindergarten to the top Primary class, in a more predominantly English-speaking environment. For this reason, in September 1993 we added an International Section to the school, with, as its most important features, English as the medium of instruction, small classes, and a strong Mandarin component added to a British-based curriculum, We believe that this option enables us to serve more members of the Hong Kong community, whether they be residents or expatriates, or whether they are here temporarily or permanently. supervisor As the demand for school places has been increasing steadily over the years, our International Section established an extension in September 2002, and is using part of the school campus at Kiangsu-Chekiang College on Braemar Hill Road, North Point, for its upper Primary classes and the International Secondary section. I hope you will find our website both interesting and informative. We are very proud of the work done in the school, and welcome visitors, whether academic colleagues or prospective parents. I encourage anyone with further questions to contact Ms. Fiona Pearson, Acting Head Teacher of the College, and Ms. Sandra Wyatt, Head Teacher of Foundation and Primary School, and Ms. Nicola Sugden, Head Teacher (Curriculum) of Upper Primary School, who will be happy to help you further. Our school is part of the Kiangsu-Chekiang & Shanghai Residents Association group of schools. We grew from the requests of parents, who sought an alternative to the education provision offered in the Hong Kong mainstream community. We exist because of the Association and as such we carry on their support for the classical Chinese educational virtues of advocating the development of a student’s moral, intellectual, physical, social, and aesthetic capabilities. (College mission statement 1958). The members of our association moved to Hong Kong from Kiangsu and Chekiang provinces and Shanghai. They are outward-looking, adaptable, industrious, and flexible. Whilst cherishing their origins the members view all cultures and peoples with respect and value diversity and homogeneity in equal measure. Our school will strive to develop the same qualities in our students. The International Sections of our Schools are firmly placed in the “International” sector of education in Hong Kong. Like many schools in this sector, we were founded by immigrants, but we are not rooted in a foreign culture. We are Chinese in outlook and international in spirit. Our mission is to provide an education that reflects our beginnings but looks to the future. We respect and value the culture of our students and staff no matter where they come from, and draw on these cultures to give a balanced global perspective to our work. The school has high regard for the value of language. Here we refer to our roots and Mandarin is extensively studied. English is our medium of instruction in all other areas. No matter the mother tongue of our students or staff it will be shown the same respect as any other. Human thought and endeavor are closely linked to language and we will not give up the opportunity to draw on the wisdom of other cultures just because it is outside our comfort zone. We will endeavor to help our students grow into responsible, considerate, enquiring, young adults, who can make a positive contribution to the world. Our students come from many countries and will study and work in many more as they progress into adulthood. We intend that wherever they may go our students will be a welcome addition to that country and be able to keep growing and learning.
  18. We are at an exciting time in the development of the school for several reasons. The current Y7-9 students are following the Middle School Curriculum (MSC). Students are enjoying the opportunities this brings including improving links across subject areas, skills being taught explicitly in the classroom, and an alive, online reporting system that is custom made for our needs. In August 2017, we will be introducing the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for Year 7 which will roll out over three years. This framework will further develop the student learning experience. In many ways, this will build on the work we are currently doing with the MSC. All ESF schools will be on the same journey so we are working together with MYP schools to share best practices. Performance Coaching at KGV continues to develop and is changing the way we have conversations across the school and the way we can support students through tutoring. We are in a fortunate position in that we are situated in a community where the student population is not transient so we have time to build relationships and we are proud to be part of the KGV community. If you ever ask a teacher why they love working at KGV they will undoubtedly mention the students and the way they engage positively in everything they do. We create a ‘school for one. A place where each person engages in remarkable learning to achieve at high levels and be the best they can be. As an agile school, we collaborate and innovate to make a difference in the communities we serve and lead. Our students are empowered to be their own remarkable by: Challenging themselves and others to achieve at high levels and be the best learners they can be Embracing and enacting our school values of honesty, courage, and resilience Dreaming big and setting ambitious goals and targets Being excited, innovative, and grasping opportunities Understanding their wellbeing and enacting behaviors to stay healthy Connecting positively with others and embracing diversity in our global context Our staff is empowered to be their own remarkable by: Placing our students first in all that they do Collaborating with others to promote their learning and our collective capabilities Embracing, enacting, and explicitly modeling our values of honesty, courage, and resilience Communicating a sense of optimism, positivity and displaying a ‘growth mindset’ Demonstrating a mindset of high expectations and continuously evaluating the impact their teaching is having on student learning Promoting and enacting wellbeing as a foundation of our learning community Our school is remarkable by: Creating a ‘school for one’ that personalizes the learning experience for all and enables every person to be a remarkable learner Being a hub for community learning where our parents, alumni, and community connect in authentic, sustainable, and evolving ways Honoring our rich history and traditions whilst embracing innovation Prioritizing the connection between wellbeing and learning through our values and actions Being an agile school and empowering collaboration at all levels to build our ‘engine rooms’ for professional learning, teacher evaluation of their impact on student learning, and driving school improvement within our ESF family Truly believing, that every person can be their own remarkable.
  19. Kingston is comprised of Playgroup, Nursery, Kindergarten, and Primary students who are guided by a diverse and uniquely qualified staff united in our belief in bilingualism and a small-school approach to learning. After graduating from Kingston Primary, our students have the through-train option of continuing the small-school approach in secondary school at International College Hong Kong. Since 1994, Kingston has dedicated itself to the worthy pursuit of equipping students to be proficient in two of the most significant languages of the twenty-first century: English and Chinese (Putonghua). For over 20 years, Kingston has successfully provided a challenging and stimulating environment that nurtures the balanced development of students who, in their own unique way, grow into active and responsible world citizens. We are proud to have been the first school in Hong Kong to be authorized to provide the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. The IBPYP provides a unique framework for approaches to learning. The flexibility of the IBO framework has ensured that Kingston has been able to maintain its dedication to bilingualism while ensuring international standards of English, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Science, Arts, and Physical Education and providing an excellent environment for Chinese language development. Members of the community who take the opportunity to walk the halls and visit the classrooms of Kingston often comment on the fluidity with which our students switch between Putonghua and English. This is a point of particular pride for us. While many schools view languages as subjects, we take particular pride in having two living languages at Kingston. Kingston teachers come from all over the globe and they bring with them a wide variety of experiences. Varied experiences and points of view are valued within the IB approaches to learning, as is lifelong learning. Our dedication to teacher professional development is unsurpassed and makes Kingston an attractive option for teachers who want to work at a school where training and experience result in a mature program with a deep understanding of the IBPYP framework and the most innovative, successful, child-centered educational program ever developed. 20. Moving to HK and looking for a school can be daunting, particularly if you are working in a short timescale. Choosing the right school for you and your child depends on many factors, geographical, financial, but also, of course, educational. Key to this decision is the effect of your child’s primary education on their secondary school and even college or university enrollment chances. We all want the best for our children: we want them to be happy as children and successful as adults. At LIS, we put children first, with the greenest environment any school in HK has to offer combined with all the most recent technology in the classrooms, a British curriculum, highly qualified teachers, and small classes that maximize student-to-teacher contact. We are proud to have one of the highest enrollment rates in the secondary school of choice. A number of our former students have been so happy with their academic experience here that they have enrolled children of their own at LIS. If you are relocating to Hong Kong, you should consider living in beautiful Lantau. With excellent transport links to Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, and with the airport within easy reach, Lantau is the perfect location. With Disneyland, the Big Buddha, and the Ngong Ping cable car all situated on Lantau, it’s a great place to unwind. There are outlet shopping malls in Tung Chung, cafes, restaurants and a golf course in Discovery Bay, and wonderful beaches in South Lantau. All these areas have large expatriate communities which LIS serves, and we provide school buses to all our campuses. L.I.S. provides schooling in the English language from Reception Class to Primary Six. The curriculum follows the requirements of the British National Curriculum and the guidelines of the SATS examination system. The tests are administered in the first two weeks of May every year. According to the British Curriculum, children must be in reception class when turning 4 years old during the school year and turning 5 years old when joining Primary One. As Hong Kong is such a diverse city, and as we truly are an international school with both children and teachers coming from all over the world, the British National Curriculum is adapted so that it applies to all of our pupils. Among the international schools of Hong Kong, L.I.S. provides the highest ratio of teachers per child, with no class exceeding 22 children in lower primary and 24 children in upper primary. Topic works focus on local history, local geography, and the traditional culture of the Hong Kong people. These areas of study are connected to broader topics in European and North American history, geography, and culture.
