About Me

  1. Our school is a Catholic high school that was founded by Dr. Yao in 1969. In the beginning, our school was registered as Sacred Heart Industrial and Commercial Vocational Senior High School. Dr. Yao was the first principal. By 1971, the construction of the school buildings and school factories had been completed. The equipment for classrooms had also been purchased and teachers had been recruited. In 1971, our school had enrolled a total of 110 students for the three following courses: Synthetic Business, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Teachers have three characteristics: love, patience, and passion, and educate the youth, irrespective of background. Students also have three characteristics: concentration, peaceful mind and purity, and willingness to open up their minds for wisdom and follow the sage precursors. In 1972, our school was permitted to set up a night school. Since the establishment of the school, Dr. Yao went abroad many times to visit many different countries, such as the USA, Canada, West Germany, and Italy to raise funds to help develop the school. However, the job of raising funds became more and more difficult. Under such tough circumstances, we still tried hard and managed to complete Sacred Heart Building and the school gym to make our campus more efficient. Later, to follow the government’s policy of developing more Complete Schools and Comprehensive High Schools for Taiwanese students, we then included general senior high courses in 1990 and changed the school’s name to Sacred Heart High School. Therefore, our school could continue to provide students in Keelung with a superior education environment. Our founder, Dr. Yao retired in 1990 due to bad health. Our School Vision diagram is created from a skeleton of the School Logo the cross stands for the school’s belonging to the Catholic system. Love gives life to the spirit of the cross. When the cross is embraced by a red heart of love, this made a cast on its feature, the spirit of love, from the background vividly. Our school motto of love God, love country, loving parents, and love people also fulfills this spirit of the cross ─ meaning and mission of Love. Our School Vision diagram shows a way to pass on the Spirit of Love by adopting Education Love as a core, with the woven fabric of Virtues as a foundation, with anchoring four cornerstones of development - Multi-intelligences, International Vision, Pragmatic Practice to bring out our school Vision of establishing every Sacred Heart child's accomplishment. After his retirement, Mr. Shih Yi-Tsai, the former director of the Academic Affairs Office, was assigned to be the principal. Inspired by the sacrifice and selflessness of Dr. Yao, the staff of the whole school devoted every effort to improve the teaching quality and give the students the best education. Our school has made great progress in recent years. In 1995, we included junior high courses. Approved by the Ministry of Education, our school has become a Complete School. After the retirement of Principal Shih Yi-Tsai, Mr. Chih Yi-Chuan was appointed by the school board as the third principal in 2003. In 2009, the school board assigned the director of the Academic Office, Ms. Lu He-Fong, to be the fourth principal. In 2013, Ms. Yang Ru-Jing took over the responsibility and became the fifth principal. In the same year, our school’s name was changed to Fu Jen Sacred Heart High School. It was a new milestone for our school and Principal Yang will continue leading all the staff to overcome the new challenges in the future. Students’ Affairs Office is in charge of all aspects of the students’ school life including meals, uniforms, dormitories, school buses, and extracurricular activities. The office is also responsible for guiding students. The main job of Students’ Affairs is to focus on three dimensions-learning, volunteering, life caring, and moral education. These four important factors have helped make the campus a friendly, safe, and pleasant environment. We hope to see our students get well-educated and gain knowledge in this sound and the comfortable campus that we will provide to them. All the staff in Students Affairs Office will sincerely help every student cope with any problem they encounter in their school life.

Our community represents many races, religions, and nationalities, and our academic and extracurricular programs promote global awareness and social responsibility. Today's complex world demands that young women develop strength of character and a sense of their worth and abilities. Current research demonstrates the benefits of single-sex education. The contemporary world of business, politics, and the professions shows that many distinguished leaders are graduates of girls' girls' schools. Woodlands Academy builds its curriculum and all student activities on best practices for girls. We graduate global citizens prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the most rigorous colleges and universities. We draw upon solid research and continue to explore new ideas to ensure that our students are not only successful but are prepared to meet future challenges with courage and confidence. Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart, founded in 1858, is an independent, Catholic, day and boarding college preparatory school for young women, grades 9-12, who wish to pursue a course of study committed to academic excellence within the context of a faith-based community. As a member of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools in the United States, Woodlands Academy commits itself to educate to our five goals: personal and active faith in God, deep respect for intellectual values, a social awareness which impels to action, the building of community as a Christian value, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom. The benefits of a girl's girls' school do not come from separating girls from the boys but from a girl's girls' school's ability to focus entirely on girls' education, development, and well-being. At Woodlands, girls learn experientially that they have no limits. They are the president of student government, captains of sports teams, editors of publications, president of robotics, leading actress in the spring musical, also held every other leadership position in the school. They are future engineers, novelists, physicians, and any other professions they so choose. Of course, girls can compete successfully in a coeducational environment. A girl's girls' school education is about eliminating competition and creating a customized learning environment for girls every day. They are learning every day not only math and science but their value, potential and power. Research supports girls girls' school graduates are more prepared for college, are more likely to pursue higher educational degrees, and have higher career aspirations. During the past decade, a growing body of research has documented what all-girls'all-girls' school educators have long understood: All-girls all-girls' schools give young women the best education to succeed in college and the world beyond.

  4. WE ARE an independent, Catholic, college preparatory school for girls offering instruction from PreK 3 through grade 12. Academy of the Sacred Heart, founded in 1821, is an independent Catholic school enrolling girls in pre-primary through grade twelve with residential accommodations for students in grades seventh through twelve. As a member of the worldwide network of Sacred Heart Schools, the Academy of the Sacred Heart emphasizes the total development of mind, body, and spirit through an education rooted in the Catholic tradition. Students thrive in an environment characterized by seriousness of purpose, love of learning, creativity, and meaningful relationships. The Academy is committed to educating young women to a lively sense of God’s action in their lives, an acute understanding of the world, and courageous confidence that every person can make a difference. The Sacred Heart mission seeks to develop within each student a personal & active faith in God. “Rooted in the Catholic tradition, the Academy welcomes people of diverse beliefs and seeks to instill in its students a deep understanding and respect for people of different cultures and religions.” The goal at the Academy is to develop lifelong learners, emphasizing individual thought and experiential instruction, religious curriculum, active learning, small classes, and a professional faculty committed to the learning styles of young women. When it comes to preparing young women for college and life, it is essential to remember that girls learn differently from boys. We get that at the Academy, which is why we take our students out of the textbooks and into the world of learning – encouraging them to be problem solvers and independent thinkers. This independence helps prepare our students for whatever challenges life brings while also giving them the chance to discover who they are and, more importantly, who they want to be. The Academy offers an innovative program that focuses on the unique educational needs of girls. Sacred Heart education is of the very essence that it be genuinely concerned for each student’s total development: intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual. Sacred Heart education intends to educate the “whole child.” We strive to educate our students to be faith-filled and active leaders of tomorrow. We teach according to the ways that each gender learns best, and we encourage our students to identify their talents and develop them to their fullest potential. Current research points to the effectiveness of single-gender education for young women. Today, the demands placed on women emphasize the need to develop a sense of confidence and ability. Graduates of girls’ schools account for a significant percentage of women in leadership positions. View full school
  5. Sacred Heart University, contemporary in spirit and thinking, is rooted in the liberal arts and Catholic intellectual traditions. Our mission is to educate the whole person while preparing students to lead and serve in the world today. The Catholic intellectual tradition, a rigorous and interdisciplinary search for truth and wisdom, forms the cornerstone of all University life and welcomes people from all faiths and cultures. The liberal arts form the foundation of the University's academic and professional programs. A liberal arts education provides students with the intellectual abilities and practical skills essential for every professional and career path. It is the basis for forming educated citizens in an inclusive, globally-connected society. As a Catholic university, inspired by the Gospel of love and mercy, Sacred Heart is particularly committed to social justice. It encourages its students, faculty, and staff to respect every person's dignity, promote the common good, and serve others, especially the poor and suffering. The true worth of your Sacred Heart experience will not be measured by facts we teach you or the skills you acquire while you are here. It will not be something that we give you. At Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT, we believe that inquiry, pursuing knowledge, and intelligent reflection – both inside and outside the classroom – create more significant opportunities and choices. We challenge you to be fearless in your curiosity and courageous in your service to others. We are passionate about the role we play in helping you reveal your true potential. The discovery of your talents, abilities, strengths, character, and dreams is the most valuable outcome we strive for as educators and mentors. Sacred Heart University was founded in 1963 by the Most Reverend Walter W. Curtis, second bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, to provide an institution of higher education that would serve the diocese people and region, regardless of sex, race, creed, or religion. In October 1962, Bishop Curtis announced both the plan to open a college the following September and its name, "Sacred Heart." The choice of the name had a dual origin: it was the name of the bishop's first pastorate in Bloomfield, N.J., and was a pledge from the bishop attesting to the value of such an institution. Signs of the University's growth and vibrancy are evident. Enrollment has risen from the original class of fewer than 200 undergraduate students to approximately 8,500 full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students. Over the years, Sacred Heart has grown to become the second-largest Catholic University in New England and, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education, one of the fastest-growing Catholic Universities in the country. The University has enhanced the undergraduate student experience in many unique ways. In 1990, if accepted, for the first time, students who wanted the residential experience. It now has 11 residential areas, with approximately 92 percent of first-year students and 57 percent of all undergraduates residing in University housing. New degree programs and majors in relevant disciplines are regularly added to our curriculum, and the University now offers more than 80 undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and certificate programs on its main campus in Fairfield, Conn., and satellites in Stamford, Luxembourg, and Ireland. The University consists of six colleges and two schools: College of Arts & Sciences, School of Communication, Media & the Arts School of Computer Science and Engineering, the AACSB-accredited Jack Welch College of Business, College of Health Professions, College of Nursing, Isabelle Farrington College of Education and St. Vincent's College. Sacred Heart was recently ranked Top 4 most innovative University as well as one of the best universities in the North, according to U.S. News & World Report's guidebook, Best Colleges 2018. This is partly due to the University's remarkable expansion, innovation, and growth over the last decade.

  10. The University of the Sacred Heart, Tokyo, has maintained its commitment towards Liberal Arts education since it was founded six decades ago. The current changes in society, along with the surge of unpredictable events in which people are required to survive the times by supporting one another, calls for an urgent need to educate the people to broaden their scope to be more flexible in making responsible decisions, which is what a Liberal Arts education is set to offer. The strength of such a curriculum will be an asset for the students not merely in their professional careers but the very source of power to lead a full life. The University of the Sacred Heart bases its educational principles on the spirit of Madeleine Sophie Barat, who founded the first Sacred Heart School in France. This energizing power (called the "spirit of the Sacred Heart") is common to all Sacred Heart Schools worldwide. Our policy is for the new students to choose which undergraduate department they wish to enter in the second semester of their first year to realize our founding educational principles. The students are given time to carefully select which major they would genuinely like to pursue from the nine programs: English Language and Literature, Japanese Language and Literature, Philosophy, History, Human Relations, International Studies, Psychology, Education, and Primary Education, offered in the Faculty of Liberal Arts. Ever since the tragic events following the March 11, 2011 earthquake, humanity has had to confront some basic questions. It is as if we are being told to reexamine those assumed values and systems that we had much depended upon. We hope that our currently enrolled students and those who will newly join the student community at such challenging times will seek and find their answers in their course of study at our University. The educational principles of the University of the Sacred Heart are based on the vision held by Madeleine Sophie Barat. She founded the Society of the Sacred Heart more than 200 years ago. We can perhaps compare the age of confusion following the French Revolution that she overcame to our current situation in Japan and worldwide. Our tradition has been to dedicate our services using our heads and hearts so that we are equipped with a keen awareness of others' needs for the betterment of society, and this traditional energy is what we call the Sacred Heart Spirit. In the years that you spend at the University of the Sacred Heart, we hope that as you pursue your studies, you will also equip yourself with this Sacred Heart Spirit, for it will bring happiness to you and those around you. For those considering enrolling, we sincerely welcome you to visit our Open Campus. We strongly encourage you to interact with our current students and to experience campus life at the University of the Sacred Heart for yourself. The University aims to develop in its students through their quest for higher learning and specialization: The creativity that opens up a new vision. The power of critical thinking. The ability to become fully educated, well-rounded human beings.

Forest Ridge graduates women who change the world. Our Mission tells the world why we exist today. Our Vision describes where our leadership wants to take our school tomorrow. Both statements are fundamentally crucial to our planning. Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart educates young women to think critically, embrace challenges, model resilience, confront injustice, seek equality, and lead globally in the pioneering spirit of our foundress. Our alumnae change the world. Our Vision is uncompromising excellence in educating girls in the Sacred Heart tradition. In keeping with St. Madeleine Sophie Barat's Vision for excellence in educating girls since 1800, Forest Ridge offers a program grounded in our rich Catholic tradition. We provide our young women the courageous leadership skills necessary to act with compassion and conviction in embracing the challenges of a diverse global society. Our alumnae respond generously to their local and global communities' needs and embrace their responsibilities to serve morally and ethically. St. Madeleine Sophie once said, "In this struggle concerning education, the Heart of Jesus asks us not for our blood, but our minds. We must strengthen our studies by intellectual work." Inspired by her words, our school's great strength is the expertise and dedication of our faculty and staff. Student-focused, passionate, and innovating, they continually apply best practices and new thinking in Teaching and Learning to open each student's mind in anticipation of the world they willfully join after graduation. As both a Microsoft School and Microsoft Showcase School, we host educators and Education leaders worldwide seeking insights into Forest Ridge's successes in integrating Technology across curricula. Our student's opportunities to work with Technology directly are diverse and evolving. Every day, students of all grade levels experience project-based learning, whether programming two NAO Humanoid Robots, learning to code in one of our Coding courses, or experimenting with 3D printers and laser engravers in our Maker Space. Utilizing our new Digital Media Lab, students can also immerse themselves in groundbreaking hardware and software. For example, students can pursue their creative passions with state of the art Microsoft Surface Studio devices for digital graphic design or discover the world of 3D interaction with the unique zSpace 3D computer. For a change of pace with more traditional technologies, students can dabble in video creation, green-screen capture, or audio projects utilizing a full complement of digital video cameras, microphones, and editing tools. Forest Ridge remains an active pioneer in Technology, and this spirit of innovation shines inside each of our classrooms, throughout our learning spaces, and across our campus. View full school
  13. As a private, inclusive, Catholic school in the Sinsinawa Dominican educational tradition, we provide a college preparatory curriculum steeped in faith and values and co-curricular activities to satisfy every student's interests. We aspire to provide an exceptional high school experience in an inclusive community where every student is inspired to study, reflect, and take action in pursuit of a purposeful life. Edgewood, a Catholic high school, educates the whole student for a life of learning, service, and personal responsibility through a rigorous academic curriculum that embraces the Sinsinawa Dominican values of Truth, Compassion, Justice, Community, and Partnership. Edgewood High School offers a college-preparatory program with both Advanced Placement and Honors courses and assistance for those struggling in particular subjects. Our curriculum includes required and elective courses in art, aviation, business, computers, English, French, history, Latin, mathematics, music, Spanish, public speaking/communications, physical education, religious studies, science, and social studies. We take the African proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child," to heart. We know that our students, families, and faculty members cannot do it all alone. That is why we offer numerous student services to ensure the success of every child. From tutoring to career exploration to counseling, we fulfill that need if there is something a student needs. Spirituality is an essential part of our students' journey, and we take pride in fostering personal spiritual growth. Also, prayer and service, we offer religious studies courses and understand the importance of ministry programs and retreats that allow our school community to engage in non-academic, faith-based experiences. We seek a deeper source of fulfillment, develop a sense of purpose, and facilitate spiritual activities that carry our mission. Edgewood has a religiously diverse student body, so courses reach out to all students. We teach Catholic tradition, examine other faith traditions, and discuss commonalities and differences. Religious studies courses are academic and graded. All students can succeed in religious studies courses, regardless of faith background, for a list of all religious studies course offerings. A student's high school years are about academic preparation. However, they are also a time for teenagers to learn more about themselves, explore interests, develop social skills, and gain self-confidence. Students acquire positive values and attitudes that they will take with them into their adult life. Co-curricular activities are an integral and valuable part of a student's high school experience, and Edgewood High School is committed to sponsoring a wide variety of such activities. We are proud to say that more than 95 percent of our students participate in at least one club, activity, sport, and most participate in more. While difficult to measure, the educational value of co-curricular participation is extensive. Numerous studies have shown that students who are actively engaged in sports, fine arts, or clubs and organizations are also more likely to have heightened performance in the classroom. Spiritual study and reflection, retreats, liturgies, and prayer services are other aspects of campus life at Edgewood. Every student also must complete a minimum of 100 hours of service before graduation. Both Edgewood experience components are meant to create awareness and appreciation of the beliefs, traditions, life experiences, and circumstances of the range of people who live in our community. Her vision of personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom continues to guide us today. Convent of the Sacred Heart at 91st Street is part of a worldwide network of Sacred Heart schools. Our Goals and Criteria, derived from St. Madeleine Sophie's original concept of an ideal education, form our educational philosophy framework. Our job is to unearth those gifts, nurture them, and empower each child of the Sacred Heart to share those gifts with the global community. Our Goals: Schools of the Sacred Heart commit themselves to educate to personal and active faith in God. Schools of the Sacred Heart commit themselves to educate to a deep respect for intellectual values. Intentional Education empowers the adults to be bearers of this mission and assume their responsibility to foster its transmission to the next generation. The Education to Mission Committee of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools offers school leadership the elements of a plan to educate the school community adults on this mission. The assumptions and essential elements apply to all schools in the Network. Each school community will adopt models and strategies to shape its program in the context of its history and current institutional needs. Rooted in the love of Jesus Christ, our Sacred Heart mission evolves through the experience of those who live it in the present and share it with succeeding generations. Relying on the grace of the Spirit, each school becomes a community where the presence of God is experienced and made known. View full school
  16. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart is the only Catholic, all-girls Montessori-3 through Grade 12 college preparatory school in the State of Florida. We are part of an international network of Sacred Heart schools whose mission is to educate women leaders in the Sacred Heart tradition that fosters growth in an active faith in God, intellectual values, and a commitment to social awareness in an environment of wise freedom and community. Today, the Network of Sacred Heart schools is an association of 22 Catholic schools across the United States and nearly 150 schools internationally. Independent yet united in spirit and purpose, the international community of the Sacred Heart community believes in educating the whole child and preparing her to live fully and wisely. At the core of the Sacred Heart education, the Goals and Criteria are the principles that express the intentions and hopes of our 200-year tradition. Carrollton's culture and identity are bound inextricably to the vision outlined in the Goals of Sacred Heart Schools. These values form the moral compass that influences the choices made within our community. Learning to draw upon these values during their school days, Carrollton graduates become women of conviction, courage, and confidence. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart is committed to developing young women who will shape a world where all people respect and appreciate their common humanity and celebrate diversity. Because the diversity of all kinds is experienced in many different ways, students are encouraged to explore the rich cornucopia of cultures, interests, and perspectives around them at Carrollton. It is only through expanding one's awareness of others that one can truly understand oneself. Students gain this understanding through a spectrum of clubs and forums, an international and global experience afforded through both the curriculum and a school community, which values the concept of tolerance and inclusion. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart is a community inextricably bound by the educational imperatives clearly outlined by our foundress over 200 years ago. We are a family of Christ's Heart in Miami. Sacred Heart education's distinctive spirit addresses the student's total development: spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical. Through these website pages, you will have an opportunity to become acquainted with the depth of our spiritual life, our expectations of academic rigor, the systems we support for age appropriate emotional development and intelligence, and the passion for well-being and athletic excellence introduced to all our students. We view education as a means to an end, and, in the spirit of the Sacred Heart, that end is to make God's love known in the world. As they grow in their self-understanding as God's Beloved, Carrollton students are given the foundation to be thoughtful women of courage and confidence. They will work on behalf of others, strengthen their community, and root themselves and their families in principles that will sustain them for life. As a School of the Sacred Heart, Carrollton holds that Jesus Christ is at the core of who we are. We believe that an informed, lively faith is the fruit of reading the Gospels and encountering the person of Jesus Christ as He is presented in the Scriptures. Carrollton graduates have a basic understanding of the Church's teaching about Christ and His redeeming mission, as well as an understanding of the Church's past and present role in that mission. Ideally, the Carrollton graduate begins through faith to affirm the belief that there is meaning in life and thereby has begun to develop a sense of hope. She has begun to form her conscience and evaluate moral choices and reason through moral issues with increasing clarity. She has begun to appreciate how a vibrant Christian community and the Eucharist celebration complement each other. She is learning through her failures of the need for healing and reconciliation. She is embracing Madeleine Sophie Barat's way of prayer with a daily practice of silence, of espacio. Our greatest hope is that the Carrollton graduate has developed her interior life so that she is one who trusts the Spirit dwelling within. We hope that she has developed the habit of looking for God in all things. This habitual instinct – to choose God – takes time and energy to develop. We want our graduates to know that a life rooted in prayer has both fullness and integrity. Based on the foundational principles articulated in the Goals and Criteria followed by all Sacred Heart schools in the country, Carrollton is a transformative experience intended to prepare girls intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and personally to successfully face the challenges of adulthood. 18. It is important to us that every child develops their Catholic faith and reaches their full potential as they grow to be caring, responsible citizens. At Sacred Heart School ‘Every Heart is Sacred’ and with this in mind, the school community endeavors to reflect the love that Jesus has for us, and treat each other with the respect and kindness that we each deserve. This underpins the children’s development, socially, emotionally, and academically and is evident whenever you meet a child at Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart is an outstanding Catholic primary school where ‘Every Heart is Sacred’. The school offers a distinctively Catholic education based on our faith, our moral values, and the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of our lives. This ethos drives all that we do, and all who choose to enroll their children at Sacred Heart. At Sacred Heart, it is expected that all members of the school community will reflect the love that Jesus has for us. We aim to ensure that all children achieve the highest possible standards in a creative, happy, and secure environment. We value parents and carers as partners in education and involve them and the wider community in the life of the school. The school will grow and change but we remain true to our vision. The school is strongly supported by the parish community in moral, spiritual, and practical terms. Sacred Heart RC Primary School is a Catholic School in the trusteeship of the Diocese of Salford. It is a voluntary aided school. The Governing Body is the Admissions Authority and is responsible for taking all decisions on applications for admissions. The coordination of admissions arrangements is undertaken by the Local Authority. For the school’s year commencing September 2018, the Governing Body has determined that the number of children to be admitted to Reception, Year 1,2,3, and 4 will be 45, and Year 5 and 6 will be 30. The school’s role is to participate in the mission of the Catholic Church by providing a curriculum, including Catholic religious education and worship, which will help children to grow in their understanding of the Good News and the practice of their faith. The school will help the children develop fully as human beings and prepare them to undertake their responsibilities as Catholics in society. The school requires all parents applying for a place here to understand and respect this ethos and its importance to the school community. This does not affect the rights of parents who are not of the Catholic faith to apply for a place here. Children learn and develop in different ways. Teachers know and understand this and use different teaching styles to plan work at different levels to meet the needs of all pupils in their class. This is called “Quality First Teaching.” All pupils at Sacred Heart RC Primary School receive “Quality First Teaching” from their class teacher. We aim to provide the highest quality learning environment for your child and for them to achieve their full potential. All our classes are supported by teaching assistants and pupils are offered additional support or catch-up programs where needed. Some children also need support at break/lunchtime and we offer a range of pastoral groups to support several children who need different provision at lunchtimes or break times. At Sacred Heart RC Primary School the progress and attainment of all pupils are reviewed on a termly basis by the Senior Leadership Team, of which the School SENCo is a member. These termly pupil progress meetings help identify children who may need additional support to meet identified needs. The progress and attainment of SEND children are reviewed on a half termly basis to ensure provision is matched accurately to need. Parents and Carers would be informed about their child’s general progress and targets through the twice-yearly Parents’ Evenings and the annual school report. Parents and Carers of children with special educational needs/disability (SEND) would be invited into school by their child’s class teacher on a termly basis to review and discuss their child’s IEP (Individual Education Plan). Also, Parents and Carers of children who have a Statement of SEND or a SEND Resource Agreement would be invited into school at least once a year for their child’s annual review meeting. If a child continues to have difficulty after intervention or has a high level of difficulty when they join our school, they may be considered to have special educational needs/disability (SEND) and are placed on the SEND register. This decision is made in partnership with Parents and Carers. Children with SEND have learning difficulties and/or physical disabilities which make it harder for them to learn than most children of the same age. They will need extra support or different help eg. modified tasks, extra time, or breaks informal assessments. School and other agencies can help most children overcome their difficulties quickly and easily. A few children will need extra help for some or all of their time in school. The DfE have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. 20. Sacred Heart Catholic School is a vibrant and dynamic school with high expectations and great ambitions for every one of our pupils. We believe that discipline, structure, and common purpose are solid foundations for success in life and education, and we understand the value of professionalism and innovation in everything we do. We are a Catholic school with very strong moral values and a traditional approach to behavior and discipline our pupils to understand their rights and responsibilities, respect rules and boundaries, and learn to live in honesty and trust. Sacred Heart School consistently achieves outstanding academic results, way above local and national averages in every subject area. For example, in 2014, we became the first state school in Southwark to reach the landmark figure of 90% A*-C including English and Maths. The new measure for Progress 8, a more comprehensive measure of school success, places us firmly as one of the very top-performing schools in the country. Our relatively new Sixth Form has quickly followed suit and we have already sent many students to top universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, and many other members of the Russell Group. We fully expect to maintain the same high standards of academic success at A-Level in the coming years that we have reached GCSE. We also have an exceptional record of helping our pupils to achieve more than they think is possible. Sacred Heart has consistently been in the top 2% of the country for adding value to pupils’ education at both Key Stage 3 and 4. As well as outstanding academic outcomes Sacred Heart prides itself on educating the whole child. Academic results will only go so far and we insist on a comprehensive program of moral education, teaching good manners, respect, and a determination to show our pupils that Gospel values are to be lived by, especially when it comes to looking after and caring for those less fortunate. Our Vision: "As a school dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we work to bring one another to an awareness of the fullness and meaning of life, rooted in the love of Jesus". Mission Statement: "Our school strives to be a Catholic community in which Christian principles of care and respect are valued, with emphasis on the development of the individual through academic achievement and personal development". To achieve our vision we will: Recognize and treasure the unique gifts of each pupil and do all that we can to allow these to develop and flourish. Provide the highest possible quality of education where each child is challenged to pursue the highest standards in spiritual, moral, cultural, intellectual, and physical development in an environment of academic endeavor and personal discipline. Create a welcoming community of faith that witnesses to the teachings of the gospel and fosters strong bonds of love within the community we serve. Form our pupils in the attitudes of the heart of Jesus expressed in respect, compassion, forgiveness, and generosity. Learning at Sacred Heart is interactive, engaging, and relevant to the real world. Our pupils have a strong grounding in traditional core academic subjects (English, Maths, Science, and RE) from Year 7 onwards, providing a positive platform for achievement in other areas. They learn how to prepare, organize and motivate themselves for work each day, and we support them at every stage of their school career. We want them to be excited by their learning, to recognize its importance, and to be proud of their achievements in every discipline. Sacred Heart has long bathed in the light of outstanding GCSE results and, since the establishment of our Sixth Form, we now have excellent A-Level grades to celebrate too. Our traditional approach and very strong moral values have been carried forward into our Sixth Form as we prepare our young adults for places at the country’s top universities, including offers already in our first few years of operation from Oxford, Cambridge, and many other Russell Group universities. Our curriculum is wide-ranging and proactive, designed to meet the needs of everyone’s abilities, interests, and aspirations for the future. Our pupils learn to think for themselves and we encourage them to become independent learners who ask good questions, think creatively, and solve problems with confidence. By the time our pupils leave school, we want them to be self-disciplined and focused young people who are determined to succeed in whatever career they choose to pursue. Here at Sacred Heart, we believe that learning experiences do not just take place in the classroom, or even in school, but in our local community and further afield too. We appreciate that pupils learn and develop into well-rounded individuals when they are performing on stage or in music concerts, when they are camping in the countryside, or when they are visiting other countries and experiencing other cultures. We celebrate our Catholic traditions as a community and have a special relationship with the Parishes of Sacred Heart and English Martyrs. We encourage our pupils to ‘live their faith’ and work together to raise thousands of pounds for charity. This work allows our pupils to reach out and support not only their local community but also the needy elsewhere in the world. Sacred Heart Catholic School is a united and happy community with a clear sense of purpose and direction. We promote a culture of respect for self and others and we have a very strict, traditional, and rigorous approach to discipline. Our pupils receive consistent messages about good behavior, appearance, manners, and trust. They learn to take responsibility for themselves and to understand their duties as good citizens. We want them to set high standards in their communities and to learn how to lead others with dignity and determination. Sacred Heart Catholic School has received national recognition for the value it adds to enable students' high achievement at GCSE. The school qualified for three SSAT Educational Outcomes Awards by being in the top 10% of non-selective schools nationally for high attainment the top 10% for progress made by pupils between their key stage 2 results at primary school and their GCSE results at age 16 and special recognition for their success in enabling students to fulfill their potential. 21. 22. Create a climate in which Christian values are taught, experienced, lived, and celebrated. They are central to and are shared by the whole school community – the children, staff, family, governors, and parish. Ensure every individual is loved, appreciated, and affirmed. Enable and expect all pupils to achieve their true potential, by providing a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum with equal opportunity to develop their academic, social, creative, and sporting skills. Sacred Heart aims to give every child the firmest possible grounding in the core academic subjects. We aim to develop their wider interests through the great breadth of our curriculum. We aim to ensure that they move on to their chosen secondary schools with the skills, values, and habits that will enable them to thrive there. Above all, we aim to make education fun and to give children confidence. The education we offer boys and girls draws on the very best of both traditional and innovative teaching methods. Children are stretched by an academically demanding and exciting curriculum taught in innovative and creative ways where the focus is on children’s learning. They are given unparalleled access to a whole raft of other activities from art, music, drama, and games to gardening and cooking. The aim of all this is to broaden their horizons and to find something at which they shine. Having found this we celebrate their achievements and successes at every possible opportunity so that children’s enjoyment, self-confidence, and esteem will grow. Sacred Heart is a vibrant caring Catholic community where children both know each other and all of the staff. Assemblies, led by both staff and children, afford the time for us to think about our Christian responsibilities towards others and to celebrate both individual and school achievements. All this is designed to help us nurture and care for our children and for them to grow up to be confident and decent young people, tolerant of one another, and clear about both right and wrong. Life at Sacred Heart is busy and at the end of a full day and week, children return home having had the time of their life. British Values are in line with our Gospel Values! In 2013 the Department for Education said “Keeping our children safe and ensuring schools prepare them for life in modern Britain could not be more important. This change is an important step towards ensuring we have a strong legal basis for intervening in those schools where this is an issue.” “The vast majority of schools already promote British values. This is about making sure we have the tools we need to intervene if children are being let down.” Schools are required to actively promote and not undermine “British Values”. The government has set out its definition of British Values as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. As a Catholic School, we actively promote values, virtues, and ethics that shape our pupils' character and moral perspective, through the teachings of the Church. We are confident that our continued focus on the Gospel Values will give our pupils the necessary awareness of what it means to be a good citizen in Britain today, and embed in them the building blocks of a future successful and productive life. Through our RE, PSHE, and foundation subjects we can make real links between the values of our pupils and the lives of others in their community, country, and the world in general. Through our Creative Curriculum, we teach about democracy, civic responsibility, rules, and laws, the monarchy, equality, values and virtues, environmental awareness, and understanding of other faiths. 23. Our school is a big family with strong parish and community links. Care and excellent standards of teaching and learning are hallmark statements of our school. At Sacred Heart, we aim to help children develop in their journey of faith in a positive learning environment and we place Jesus, His teachings, and His values at the center of what we do. We also believe that our school will make a valuable contribution to your child’s development. It is a secure and caring environment where children develop their many talents and we fully recognize the importance of educating the ‘whole child. Academic excellence for all children is one of our goals but we also seek to nurture those special gifts which make each child unique. Home, School, and Parish links are also vital. We value the full contribution to school life that parents make and the support offered by our local parish. Together, we ensure that Sacred Heart remains a very special place. E-Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Sacred Heart. We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any e-Safety incidents are recorded and managed by our e-safety policy. e-Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online. We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the e-Safety message is consistent. Parents must speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online. School Governors play an increasingly significant role in the running of schools. We feel it’s a huge privilege to serve the school, and play our part in ensuring the children at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary receive the education they deserve. School governing bodies are made up of volunteers who are responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Individual governors bring a range of experience to the group, drawing on their professional expertise and often their knowledge of the school as parents or as part of the local community. Governors don’t get involved in the everyday operation of the school that is in hands of Mrs. Bramhall and her Senior Leadership Team. Our role is mainly to help shape the strategic direction and priorities of the school, and help drive those priorities forward. Much of the work is done in these committees, and each one will meet once or twice per term. In addition to these meetings, some of us also fulfill statutory roles which oversee different aspects of school life (e.g. Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and Special Educational Needs). The work of the Board of Governors helps ensure that staff can get on with doing what they do best – educating our pupils to a high standard but at the same time creating time, space, and resources for your children to do the more fun things in life. Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School is passionate about and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and visitors to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children, and staff at school. Pupil premium funding was introduced in April 2011 to narrow the gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. The government believes that Pupil Premium is the most effective way of ensuring that funding reached the pupils who need it most. The government has stated that it is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. We are very proud of the excellent provision for our pupils at Sacred Heart and in particular for those in receipt of the pupil premium grant. All staff is dedicated to ensuring the gap in attainment and achievement closes between those pupils eligible for the pupil premium and all other pupils, and that the school continues to promote a fully inclusive ethos. Outcomes for our pupils remain a priority and work is targeted so that pupils reach their potential. Regular meetings are held with the senior leadership team to assess progress and monitor children's attainment. At Sacred Heart, we always strive to provide quality experiences of prayer and liturgy that support pupils’ spiritual development. These communal acts of prayer and the liturgical celebrations of the Church form part of everyday life in our school. Every child is allowed to pray by giving praise and thanks to God using traditional prayers of the Catholic Church and many other sources of prayer that enable this to take place. We encourage the children to nurture a relationship with God through words, symbols, songs, gestures, and silence. Prayer is such an integral part of school life that it can never be confined to ‘timetabled’ slots but may take place in a variety of contexts other than those specifically structured. Central to our prayer life in Sacred Heart is the weekly Pupil Led Collective Worship. Children prepare reflective sessions themselves and share this with their peers. The Eucharist is the very core, the very essence of our Catholic life, and therefore is celebrated regularly as a whole school and with the extended community. Our school Masses take place on a Thursday morning, with children participating in a variety of ways: praying, reading, and singing. The opportunity to celebrate Mass with our parishioners, in our church, helps to further the children’s understanding of the richness of the Eucharist. View full school
